Flor's Kitchen, Nyc

Just thought I'd post another NYC place that's gluten-friendly: Flor's Kitchen. I met up with some friends at their West Village branch (they've got another spot on 1st Ave), we ordered some sangria, a few salads, some arepas and some empanadas. Unlike most places I know of (which, granted, aren't that many in number), they make of their empanada dough with corn, not wheat. The few that were wheat were labeled as such. This was the first time I'd had arepas, which are basically fried empanadas, and they were quite good--we had ones filled with chicken, chicken and avocado, and bean/cheese plaintain, as well as some with beef which I didn't try. I'm fairly asymptomatic, but for what it's worth, all I felt after eating at Flor's was full--and that's not really something to complain about.

Thank you SO much for this post. I read this, tried it, and loved it. I must have eaten there five times in the last two months. Not only that, I went there in a group, and all seven of us loved the place, which has never happened before. The ceviche is amazing, and the arepa barlovento... mmm. Thank you thank you thank you!!

Absolutely my point with Kerrigan, the owner. She stood to secure many years of faithful patronage by simply inviting us in for a pastry or lunch. Or by simply producing another $50 e-card based on trust. We would have been highly satisfied. We are limited to a few restaurants in the area, and that would have been one. It was very disappointing, esp to my wife, to realize we can't patronize the place anymore.

You would think any business would see the wisdom of honoring a $50 gift certificate on the basis of customer satisfaction alone, apart from any questions about software glitches.

So there was no physical, plastic card involved, correct?

When my wife attempted to open the online card in the store with a cashier, it would not work. We then showed the owner the link to the card, the online receipt that I got upon purchase, and even my bank statement confirming the purchase. That did not satisfy her, since she said she needed the link to open to reveal the gift ID num. They even admitted they had a systems problem around that time.
