Celiac Sprue And Diabetes

I was diagnosed with sprue about 1 1/2 yrs. ago but prior to that I was diagnosed with diabetes Type 2. Does anyone out there have recipes that cover both conditions. Sometimes it gets really frustrating trying to balance the two. Thanks.

You just really have to get back to the basics and stick to eating things made from scratch that are naturally well balanced and don't include sugar. Soups (vegetables, meat, broth, don't even need the rice), stews (meat, carrots, onions - leave out the potatoes), chili (tomatoes, beans, ground turkey), stir fries (without rice or with a small amount of brown rice or quinoa) can all be well balanced between fat/protein/carbs. (I'm assuming you don't have to be specifically LOW carb, but moderate - I try to eat 25/25/50 to 30/30/40 due to hypoglycemic symptoms, but I know some diabetics have to be even more careful of carbs than that.) Keep nuts around. Use avocados in salads. And have plenty of salads with plenty of vegetables. Keep eggs around and use them (if you're not allergic). And avoid store-bought gluten-free baked items - they're almost all high-GI flours.

Are you insulin dependant or not? My son has type 1 diabetes and is insulin dependant. He also has celiac. We are adjusting quite well. But he can eat whatever sugar he wants. He is on insulin.

      Shingles is dormant and related to chicken pox when one has had in the past.Shingles comes out when stress is heightened.I had my 3rd Shingles in 2023.

      Oats naturally contain a protein called avenin, which is similar to the gluten proteins found in wheat, barley, and rye. While avenin is generally considered safe for most people with celiac disease, some individuals, around 5-10% of celiacs, may also have sensitivity to avenin, leading to symptoms similar to gluten exposure. You may fall into this category, and eliminating them is the best way to figure this out. Some people substitute gluten-free quinoa flakes for oats if they want a hot cereal substitute.
