Celiac/gluten After Pregnancy?

I have been questioning gluten intolerance or celiac disease for a little while now and while putting pieces of my puzzle together one big thing that sticks out is I had a few neurological symptoms a few months after having my daughter via c-section...I also had HORRIBLE pain for MONTHS (like 6months)...saw my OB numerous times and she was stumped because everything looked great and she sent me for a sono to see if I had anything going on inside but results came back fine. Fast forward to my third pregnancy and my hair and eye lashesh began falling out (I wrote a big intro/symptoms on the pre-testing board) and they have check my thyroid amongst other systems numerous times...

I have hair loss, eyelash loss, brittle toe nails, mouth sores, dizziness (like vertigo), brain fog, bloating, shaky feeling inside, weight loss/lack of weight gain, poorer vision, and occasional tachycardia with no known source.

I have seen specialist after specialst...I have had enough blood work to save someone's life, I have had a brain MRI, EKGs, EEGs, CT Scans and they only abnormalities found were that I am Vit D deficient and Iron deficient...I added my blood work to my symptoms as began questioning gluten intolerance or celiac disease...

Anyway...my question is: has anyone had their syptoms show up as a result of pregnancy more specifically a c-section?

I was wondering if the trauma to my intestines could have not necessarily caused this issue but brought it to light??

Side note: baby #2 was c-section baby #3 was vbac

Both pregnancy and surgery alone can trigger celiac.

My significant symptoms started after my 2nd child was born. I did not have a c-section but I suspect any stress on the body can trigger it.

Christine: what do you mean significant symptoms started after pregnancy #2...did you have a diagnosis prior to that?

Although I have likely had celiac since I was about 8 or 9, I was not diagnosed until 2010. I began to have severe symptoms when I was about 3 to 4 months postpartum with my 2nd in 2008 (bloating, sharp abdominal pains, insomnia, joint pains, etc.) I became pregnant with my 3rd shortly after this and I went into "remission" I think...although looking back, during my 3rd pregnancy I craved gluten free rice chex. It was when I was postpartum with my 3rd that things got really bad...abdominal symptoms and joint pains returned but then I began to develop ulcers in my mouth and throat, bruise all over, lost a bunch of hair, began to run a daily fever, arthritis....all of my symptoms went away once I was gluten free. I am now postpartum with my 4th, my first baby since being gluten free, and I feel better than ever. Being gluten-free has also had a huge difference in my milk production. I hope that everything works out for you.

      No, I've not been diagnosed as celiac.  Despite Entero Labs being relocated to Switzerland/Greece, I'll be doing another test. After eating wheat products in Greece for 4 weeks, there wasn't any reaction.  However, avoiding it here in the states.   Thanks everyone for your responses.

      Thank you @JulieRe so much for sharing this extra information. I'm so glad to hear you're feeling better and I hope it keeps moving in that direction. I feel I'm having so many lightbulb moments on this forum just interacting with others who have this condition. I also was diagnosed with gastric reflux maybe about 10 years ago. I was prescribed ranitidine for it several years back, which was working to reduce my gastric reflux symptoms but then the FDA took ranitidine off the shelves so I stopped taking it. I had a lot of ups and downs healthwise in and around that time (I suddenly gained 20 pounds, blood pressure went up, depression got worse, and I was diagnosed with OSA). At the time I attributed my change in symptoms to me taking on a new stressful job and didn't think much else about it. They did give me a replacement gastric reflux drug since ranitidine was off the shelves, but when I went on the CPAP for my OSA, the CPAP seemed to correct the gastric reflux problem so I haven't been on any gastric reflux drug treatment for years although I still do have to use a CPAP for my OSA. Anyway that's a long story but just to say… I always feel like I've had a sensitive stomach and had migraines my whole life (which I'm now attributing to having celiac and not knowing it) but I feel my health took a turn for much worse around 2019-2020 (and this decline started before I caught covid for the first time). So I am now wondering based on what you said, if that ranitidine i took could have contributed to the yeast overgrowth, and that the problem has just been worsening ever since. I have distinctly felt that I am dealing with something more than just stress and battling a more fundamental disease process here. I've basically been in and out of different doctor specialties for the past 5 years trying to figure out what's wrong with me. Finally being diagnosed with celiac one year ago, I thought I finally had THE answer but now as I'm still sick, I think it's one of a few answers and that maybe yeast overgrowth is another answer. For me as well, my vitamin deficiencies have persisted even after I went gluten-free (and my TTG antibody levels came down to measurably below the detectable limit on my last blood test). So this issue of not absorbing vitamins well is also something our cases have in common. I'm now working with a nutritionist and taking lots of vitamins and supplements to try and remedy that issue. I hope that you continue to see improvements in working with your naturopath on this. Keep us posted!

      Hello everyone. I am Elena and am 38 years old. I suspect I have a gluten intolerance even if my celiac panel is ok. I have the following symptoms : facial flushing, Red dots not bumps în face, bloating abdominal distension, hair loss, depression anxiety even with meds and even bipolar. Fatigue extreme to the point of not being able to work. All of these after I eat gluten. Could I have non celiac gluten sensitivity? Thanks anyone else with these symptoms?

      Hi Everyone,  I do appreciate your replies to my original post.   Here is where I am now in this journey.  I am currently seeing a Naturopath.  One thing I did not post before is that I take Esomeprazole for GERD.  My Naturopath believes that the decrease in the gastric acid has allowed the yeast to grow.    She has put me on some digestive enzymes.  She also put me on Zinc, Selenium, B 12, as she felt that I was not absorbing my vitamins. I am about 5 weeks into this treatment, and I am feeling better. I did not have any trouble taking the Fluconazole.

      I'm sure it's chemically perfect. Most of them taste lousy!
