  1. I'm really starting to think I am celiac after reading all these different posts as so many of these stories sound like me. My son was just diagnosed so I will be tested soon....maybe I'll finally get answers to decades of problems. I had the same sinus issues this winter. I went through 3 rounds of antibiotics over 2 1/2 months and just couldn't get...
  2. I'm so tired of all the laundry! Blood soaked pillows, sheets, and jammies! Ok, and I'm worried about them, too of course! That's interesting about the vitamin K...I bet you're right! Thanks so much for your story and the rubber glove thing...I'll have to try that.
  3. Have you tried seeing an ENT specialist (ears, nose, throat) or an allergist? they might be able to help more than a regular doctor. Good luck! I have the opposite problem. Ever since my last pregnancy (2 years ago) I have an extremely heightened sense of smell. It's great when someone's making cookies, but most of the time it's the biggest pain...
  4. I also have taken pred numerous times as have a couple of my kids for asthma. It works wonders AND quickly, too. Hopefully, you'll feel better soon! I'm still very new here and learning a lot, but are celiacs in general more prone to severe allergies? Not just food ones, but to insect bites, medicine, etc.?
  5. This stuff just gets more and more interesting every post I read! Thank you for the info!
  6. I have been glutening (I love the made-up words i've been learning here! ) myself for my entire life...never heard of celiac or gluten-free or any of that until just a couple weeks ago, so to answer your question...No, but I am planning to. I'm still trying to get a little more information...this site is incredible..I've learned so much more here so much...
  7. I've been trying to find a recommended GI doctor, but now am wondering if we really need one. What exactly do they do? Just the biopsy or can they help me any other way? Our allergy/asthma doctor told us to find one to rerun bloodwork and get a biopsy to confirm our son's celiac (positive blood). If we choose to use Enterolab (?) or some other source...
  8. Thanks for your story, Lisa. It's therapeutic just hearing that you're not alone...sometimes I just question if these things are just normal and I just complain too much. I'm definitely getting tested as are our other children. Yikes about your 10 pound childbirth experience! Luckily, my births have all been quick and not too problematic, 1 natural...
  9. that's interesting about the food allergies maybe going away.....it does seem like they've gotten a little better over the past year...but maybe I'm just getting used to it. Thanks for the advice.
  10. Thanks so much! He does have a lot of allergies too and takes zyrtec and benadryl for hives...what all can enterolab tell me that bloodwork didn't?
  11. My 10 year old and 22 month old both get bloody noses all the time. They both have bad allergies, but since my 22 month old just tested positive for celiac, I was just curious... Is this a symptom of celiac or gluten intolerance? Our 7 year old does not get them and she has bad allergies as well.
  12. I was actually looking at this site because my baby just tested positive for celiac (blood). I stumbled upon the sleep sectioin, not realizing this was even a celiac symptom. Over the past several years, I can count the times I slept through the night (6+ hours) on 1 hand. I wake up dozens and dozens of times each night, although I'm not sure why...
  13. I agree with you that it's ignorance. I've been the same way with other people's issues...until it hits close to home, you never truly understand. Any suggestions on getting family and close friends to understand without being pushy or do most people just deal with the ignorance? It seems to me that if you have one person in the group that wants to learn...
  14. I'm so sorry for what you guys have gone through. I know what you mean about being completely exhausted and stressed and then to have to have more added to it by your own family being insensitive?! We shouldn't let what other people think and say get to us, but much easier said than done. My situation seems so trivial in comparison, but it really affected...
  15. My 22 month old's bloodwork recently showed 1 of 3 panels as positive for celiac. I think the number was 27 but it wasn't the main one for celiac..it was one of the others. (Sorry, I don't remember the technical names...hopefully you know what I mean). Anybody know if this number is low or high or how likely it is that he has celiac or gluten intolerance...
  16. I just can't believe how many people are willing to take the time to give advice/thoughts/support on this site. You guys have helped me so much in just a few days. I feel like I'm learning from everyone else's mistakes so I dont' make as many through trial and error on my own. And all the recipes are making me hungry...even gluten-free hungry (and I don...
  17. Wow, thank you for all the great advice. My son LOVES peanut butter, he would be devastated if he couldn't have it ever again. He literally eats it every single day, sometimes just eating a scoop of it for a quick snack. And the other things are all things he'll eat too, so this shouldn't be as hard as it seems initially. What about any version of mac...
  18. I never even heard about celiac until a few weeks ago when my son's blood test came back positive, so here's some thoughts from a little bit of an outsider...I consider myself a very thoughtful person, but until you've walked in a person's shoes, you don't understand usually. for example, I'm a lot more understanding and know what things to offer to a pregnant...
  19. My 22 month old recently tested positive for celiac through bloodwork, so I"ve been researching and reading like crazy and posting questions for all of you. I also know the chances of his brother and sister or us have is increased, right? Now I'm wondering if our 10 year old might also have it.....here's his story. I'm not sure how many of these symptoms...
  20. My daughter had a diahrea episode when she was about 6 months old that lasted about a week with probably 30-50 times per day. It was awful! She was drinking great to make up for it and never got too dehydrated, but her whole bottom area was completely raw and bleeding. The doctor recommended (whenever possible) to let her be naked. Now that's not very...
  21. Initially, I thought a biopsy was my only choice. But it seems that a lot of people are recommending Enterolab or just going gluten-free and seeing how you feel. My son is 22 months. I'm one of those people that would always wonder if I didn't know for sure, especially since it's for my child and not me, so I think the going gluten-free and see how things...
  22. Thanks Julie! Dr. Scheinken was actually referred to us by 2 other people as well and she is closer to me than Phx. Children's HOspital. I need to make sure she takes our insurance, but that's the way we're leaning right now. It''s nice to hear the name keep coming up from different people...makes me feel a whole lot more comfortable. We were also referred...
  23. Was mono ruled out? My 7 1/2 year old just found out she had mono from a quick blood test. She had been extremely tired for a couple months. She was in a lot of activities and has always been a napper, so I didn't think much of it. But then she started complaining of headaches every day, then stomache pain and sore throats. Pretty soon, it seemed like...
  24. My 22 month old had 1 of 3 panels for bloodwork show positive for celiac. We now need to find a GI doctor. We're in Chandler, just outside of Phoenix. Anybody know of a good pediatric GI doctor in the area? I have a couple names, but am anxious to get opinions from here, too. Thanks!
