  1. I'm interested in getting feedback from people who do not have celiac, but have friends or family members that do. My son was recently diagnosed with celiac and I want my family to be supportive and understanding of the changes we need to make. You are obviously at least some what supportive of your friends/family since you're on this site and I'm wondering...
  2. Thanks so much for the info!
  3. Hmmm....what was the person thinking that invented this one! That's the strangest remedy I've ever heard...but hey, if it works....
  4. This is the other doctor that keeps popping up from different people. I will call on Monday and see if they take my insurance as the other doctor I was originally looking at, Dr. Scheinken, does not. Thanks so much! I love Banner. That's where my son was born and it was a very good overall experience there. Also his pediatrician is right next door in...
  5. I've tried the Mary Kay stuff and love it for both my hands and feet. It just doesn't seem to last long enough and I'm too lazy sometimes to do this every single morning and night. I'll have to try the Vicks Vaporrub...hadn't heard that one before. Instead of lotions when the cracks are deep adn painful, I use triple antibiotic ointment and cover with...
  6. only in the summer, huh? I live in Phoenix....summer's practically year round here. I used to put vaseline, covered in saran wrap adn then socks on my feet every night before I went to bed. This and wearing tennis shoes and socks during the day work, but it's so hot here sometimes, those are the last things I feel like doing. Anybody know why going...
  7. Anybody else out there have this problem? My heels get calloused really quickly and really bad. I have other callouses on my feet, too, but the whole edge of my heel on both feet are really thick within 2-3 days of having them pumiced off. If I'm not diligent (twice per day) about pumicing and lotion, they crack and get very painful. I have tried numerous...
  8. Thanks...I'll have to show this to him. By the way, what do the numbers mean exactly? There were 3 panels done for celiac...2 were less than 3, I think, and the other was 27. The high one was one of the ones "not specific to celiac" (I think that's the term my dr. used) Does any of that make sense and if so, do you know what it means? I didn't think...
  9. What exactly do you mean by "direct" I know my husband, me and our other kids will get tested. Should my brothers and sisters and our parents be tested? If this is so underdiagnosed adn 1 in a 100 people (at least) have it, why don't they screen for it automatically? Thanks for your feedback.
  10. French from my dad's side, Irish and German from my moms side. I haven't been tested for celiac yet, but have many of the symptoms and just found out my son has it.
  11. Our son recently tested positive (by blood) for celiac. Now I'm looking at symptoms I've had my whole life and wondering if I have it, too. Also, my oldest son fits the description to a T, and my daughter has some of the symptoms, but not nearly as obvious as my other two. When I told my husband that I want us all to get tested and strongly suspect that...
  12. Do you have bad allergies, too? I'm wondering how much of it could be allergy related or as someone else mentioned...malabsorption problems with vitamin K, perhaps from celiac???? It's funny (ok,maybe not to you ), about the nose-picking thing. Every time our 10 year old gets a nosebleed, we immediately check his "picking" finger to see if there...
  13. Thank you both for your insight on this. It's very confusing when you keep hearing different things you should be doing. It's kind of like a lot of MD's and chiropractors (not all, as I happen to have both that recommend each other when they see fit). they both feel so strongly that their way is the right way and the only way and the other's doing...
  14. I know this is an old topic, but I am just now familiarizing myself with celiac since my 22 month old was diagnosed a couple weeks ago. I had never heard of this before and nobody in my family had celiac that we were aware of. I did have 2 brothers and 1 sister who passed away from cystic fibrosis. I was reading a book about Celiac (sorry, I don't remember...
  15. I know this is an old post, but if you're reading...I get these too...always figured it was related to seasonal allergies. It hurts to even touch your nose or blow it and they last several weeks. I found an OTC saline GEL that you can put on it with a q-tip. It keeps it moisturized much longer than saline spray and it's so convenient and comfortable. ...
  16. AB+ here I just started thinking....I've heard of diets based on your blood type? Does anyone know anything about this? I'm wondering if the things we're allergic or intolerant to could be similar for other people with the same blood type???? Your thought anyone???
  17. Can I ask what your hands look like with the type of exzema you have? I have had problems with my hands forever it seems. They are always extremely dry and crack and bleed a lot. I hate doing dishes and cleaning with any chemicals as they get worse almost immediately. I have tried countless creams and treatments, but to no avail. My doctor just told me...
  18. I realize this is an older post, so hopefully you don't still have this going on. Someone else on here mentioned oil of oregnao....I highly recommend this. We put about 5 drops in a bowl of microwaved steaming water, lean our head over with a towel covering the bowl and our head and just breathe the steam. I've used oil of oregano for everything from sinus...
  19. Does it feel like the whole front part of your tongue was burnt a little? I never attributed it to anything in particular, but it happens often. I can feel the bumps raised and it's kindof a stingy, burning feeling. I also have gottent he ones on the sides of my tongue way in the back that usually seems to precede a sore throat, but not always.
  20. My oldest son and I get them all the time on our fingers. I have tried OTC stuff, but it takes putting it on every day for weeks and I'm just not very diligent about it. I usually just cover them with a bandaid when I'm going somehwere important so I don't gross anyone out and then anytime I'm at the doctor for anything, I get them removed with the stuff...
  21. Ok, this probably sounds weird, but when you say your gums hurt...what do they feel like? I have the sensation of constantly wanting to press on them...which I do...it relieves the discomfort only while I'm pressing on them and then it comes back. I wouldn't describe mine as pain, but more of bothersome or discomfort. Does this sound like what you're describing...
  22. Can kids get this? My 7 year old daughter is constantly tired. She sleeps 11 hours at night (but sometimes has a very tough time falling asleep) and whenever she can nap, she does. She often will take 1 or 2 two hour naps a day. She is always cold (we live in Phoenix, AZ!) She brings a sweater with her wherever we go. She also complains that her throat...
  23. Cystic Fibrosis has other symptoms, but I know that this was the first thing we ruled out before testing for celiac. Failure to thrive and diahrrea are 2 biggies with this, The other symptoms that might suggest this are respiratory problems and salty skin. I lost 2 brothers and 1 sister to CF and now that my son was diagnosed with celiac, I kinda wondered...
