  1. Come on guys, we're all old enough to know how to handle the sock monsters. I'm in Ireland so its mostly leprecuans here. A usefull fact is that most leprecuans are celiac, so just leave em a bowl of cookies and they wont bother you again. Otherwise your only hope is the gnome trap with lucky charms as previously described. However the lucky charms...
  2. Being diagnosed age 2 I've never had the will to attempt a diet such as vegetarianism or vegenism. However I will say this, I respect those choices on ethical grounds. Go animal welfare. I haven't had time to read all the wise replies you've allready recieved on this thread, though before I do I'd like to add this. How much do vegans add to the debate...
  3. Lister, sounds like your girl is being real supportive with that salsa etc. Thats great. I hope you appreciate her. Carla I can associate with what you said exactly. Lister with your da, family etc. Here is how I see it when I'm depressed. My immune system is trying to kill me, so its no suprise that my family are too, the whole goddam world is...
  4. My only problems with Indian food has been the spices. All too often spices like turmeric are cut with wheat to make more proffits. I try to allways go back to basics. I get turmeric root from the oriental market. I also only use fresh chillies. I love paprika but have yet to find a clean enough source of it.
  5. OKAY. Celiac 101. Gluten is sticky and so is glue. But thats not what damages the villi. Our problem is that our immune system detects gluten, and then releases enzymes into the intestine. These are what cause damage the villi. For years I was misinformed that the sticky gluten held down the villi, its not true. Here is the hardpart. The villi in...
  6. So cause we are celiacs its so easy to spend all our time going oh I can't eat wheat, oats, barley and rye. I can't eat anything. Its funny. Our allergy makes us feel like we cant eat anything. Sometimes it blinds us. There are so many things we can have for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Its a matter of knowing whats safe to eat and then its a matter of...
  7. Wise words Raven
  8. ps eKath I wish you could eat ma cheese. It really works wonders for my stomache bacteria after glutenation its like natural probiotics!
  9. So here is a continuation of my previous post. So most of us here sitting in the coping with being a celiac homo sapien forum spend most of our time b%$@#in about how miserable life is when we've got the aul dqb chromosone. Well dig this. Imagine if being a celiac, or a coeliac as we call em in eupope, wasn't the crappiest thing in your life. Imagine...
  10. Dear High Tech Mom, This is your 3rd pregnancy, and you've experienced similiar pains before. So who knows this could just be a painfull muscle, disk, thing. I've never heard of a gluten-free diet hurting anyone. I'm an athiest but I pray you have a safe birth, and a happy family. Peace
  11. Lister have you ever heard of the white stripes. Its a band. They have this song, and it boils down to being overwhelmed by our woes. This woman is sitting in the park overwhelmed by her problems, and she sees a squirel storing up nuts for the winter. She thinks to herself if that squirrel can do it so can I. She breaks her problems down into acorns (Metaphorically...
  12. Hey Lister, Finally managed to read the entire post. Phew! So here is the thing, allot of your problems right now are being exaserbated by stress. "Chill Winston". Some of this may be caused by giving up the green. Some is your illness. Some of this is related to your family, girl, life etc. Try not to think of it all at once ever, your head...
  13. Rather than mail him you could just get on with it. If he is aggreeing to roll with the gluten-free diet, it would be diplomatic to ease it in gently rather than sending in the bombers. You could shock him into overreacting again. Its great that this has worked out for now. Tis time to get on with tomorrow and forget about yesterday. Good luck
  14. Thanks Jules, Thats it, here we can talk and understand each other. You talk to friends and family and they look at you like your a sick puppy. Sympathy can be nice, but its not really that helpful. The understanding and support from you guys is great. Thanks again. Just gotta copy and paste this ad over, maybe it doesn't appear on your...
  15. Its so difficult to remember everything. A warning tape isn't a bad idea. gluten-free waffles are a even better idea, but best of all would be no cross contamination whatsoever. We are all human and we all make mistakes. Hi to your daughter. Hope she is well.
