ARCHIVED Glutino Bagels - Great!
cycler replied to cycler's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I toast them in the oven whole and when they are almost done I slice them and toast the inside for a couple of minutes - they come out almost fluffy that way! -
ARCHIVED Parve Chocolate Chip Cookies
cycler replied to cycler's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Thanks for your response! Sorry I wasn't clear about that - I know that they are dairy free, I was worried about gluten. -
Hi - I want to bake non-dairy chocolate chip cookies and Key Food has parve chocolate chips. I've had them before but I was eating so many wrong things back then that I don't know if I ever had a reaction to them or not. The ingredients are sugar, chocolate liquor, cocoa butter, soya lecithin and vanillin. Are these ok?

ARCHIVED Glutino Bagels - Great!
cycler posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Has anyone else bought Glutino Bagels? They are unbelievably like the real thing! (And I know bagels! I lived about 5 blocks from a bagel bakery and almost every Saturday Night at about 1 A.M. we'd buy them right out of the oven and then we went to an appetizing store for fresh lox and creamcheese!) But it's important not to defrost these before baking... -
ARCHIVED Cake Icing

I spoke to someone at Duncan Hines very recently and they told me that their frosting is definitely not gluten-free. -
ARCHIVED Needed - Arrowhead Mills Or Hain Proof Of Purchase
cycler posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi - I hope that it isn't inappropriate to ask for this on this board but I need about 7 Arrowhead Mills or Hain Proof of Purchase for a store promotion (i've got several already but I've bought everything that I will need for a while). I will gladly send a stamped self-addressed envelope to anyone who has any to send. I've also got 1 extra form for the... -
ARCHIVED Lemon Pie Filling
cycler posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Does anyone know of a Lemon Pie Filling (mix or prepared) that is gluten free? I believe that most of the prepared (like Comstock) use flour. Thanks! -
No - I didn't add anything extra - just what is in the original recipe - Apple Bread (but as muffins) - SO DELICIOUS! It also works for Chocolate Chip Cookies!

The best way for telling if adapting a "real" baking recipe to gluten-free will work by just changing the flour to an all-purpose gluten-free flour is - if the result is a batter there won't be any noticible difference in taste - if it's a dough then it will need additional ingredients for it not to be grainy or crumbly.

ARCHIVED A Baking Success....
cycler replied to 2ofus2kids2dogs's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Thank you for posting this! I attempted baking tea biscuits from my "real" recipe using rice flour and they were too crumbly and then another attempt using just tapioca flour - that batch might've been ok but I added too much water so I had to keep adding the flour to get the right consistency so they were very chewy! So hopefully when I get this cookbook... -
Are olives ok (any brand) or is there something to look for besides vinegar in the ingredients? I'm unable to eat tomatos, onions and lettuce so I'm hoping for something to add to my "salads".

ARCHIVED Tylenol Adult Liquid Extra Strength
cycler posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I've never been able to take pills so I've been taking Tylenol Adult Liquid Extra Strength for headaches for the last couple of years and now I'm wondering if it's ok to use. Sometimes I've thought that my headache got worse after taking it but I've got no way to be sure. Does anyone know if there might be any gluten in it? Thanks! -
ARCHIVED Hellman's Mayonnaise
cycler replied to cycler's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Gluten guard is a downloadable program to your computer or PDA which lists gluten free products or what is in a product for them to determine that it isn't gluten free. There is a free version and one that you buy but there are too many mistakes for it to be worth it. -
ARCHIVED Hellman's Mayonnaise
cycler replied to cycler's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks, Laura. From reading your list of sensitivities I see that we've got a lot of the same food issues. I'm also unable to eat tomatoes, potatoes and pretty much anything fresh. Did you ever consider IBS as a cause? -
ARCHIVED What Is Gluten Guard?
cycler replied to kalanfan's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I did download the free version last week but it had so much incorrect information that I removed it from my computer the same day! -
ARCHIVED Hellman's Mayonnaise
cycler replied to cycler's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Gluten Guard has disodium listed as what causes it to be listed as containing gluten. On the label it says calcium disodium EDTA. Thanks! -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Gefen Chocalate Macaroons?
cycler replied to knvb78's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
All of Manishewitz macaroons are gluten free. As long as there is no matzoh meal or cale meal in the ingredients your probably are too. -
ARCHIVED Hellman's Mayonnaise
cycler posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I saw where someone on this board said that Hellman's Mayonnaise is gluten-free and it also says that it is on their site BUT Gluten Guard claims that it has gluten because it has disodium. Does anyone know for sure which it is and if disodium is a bad ingredient. Thanks! -
You were all right!!!!!!! I bought them this week and they are GREAT! They were $5.99 but it is a big bag and if I don't eat too many at one time it will last a while.
-
I mentioned in another post that Manishewitz has Egg Noodles from potato flour (they're Kosher for Passover so you might not see them for a couple of months except if your store still has them from last year). I cooked a noodle kugel using them and it was just like the real one!

First let me say that I've always been a very, very fussy eater and after tasting what passes for baked goods for the gluten challenged I'd been resigned to eating a very limited diet. (I always baked a lot before diagnosis but I'm older now and I'm really lazy when it comes to using a lot of ingredients in what I bake.) But - after reading this board I...

ARCHIVED 'pigs In A Blanket'
cycler replied to lauriel234's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
The dough for that is a pastry type - if you use the flour that you'd use for pie crust you just need to keep adding a little ice water and a little oil until it's the right consistency and then roll out and then cut the pieces that you want. -
WOW! I'm so glad to hear what you all said! I might've understated the price - I know when I saw the $5 in the price I didn't look to see how much it was exactly. It's just so annoying to pay these prices when everone else pays .99 for a bag of ordinary pretzles.
-
I noticed that Whole Foods stocks big bags of Glutino Pretzles but at $5. I wanted to ask if anyone has tasted them and if they taste anything like real pretzles. I've spent so much on gluten free snacks that were so bad that I've only eaten them one time. Thanks!

McCormack vanilla extract is gluten free - I spoke to someone in customer service there.
