  1. I found out what was wrong!!! it was my multivitamin --> elevit - i was booked in for a colonoscopy & endoscopy and told to quit all vitamins, meds etc before it and i miraculously recovered and stopped losing weight and getting D within a few days of stopping the vitamin. I check by taking it again and yes symptoms returned. so i dont take it anymore...
  2. Pre diagnosis with celiac (By blood test & biopsy) 4 mths ago I got D about once a week and was tired all the time. When I was having the tests I had to eat more gluten than i normally did and go D 1-2 time sa day. Then after going gluten-free I initially felt much better and got D once a week still, then it gradually got more and more frequent and now...
  3. what is the best way to test for food allergies such as soy, dairy, corn, tomatoes etc etc I have biopsy proven celiac but i think there is somehting other than gluten affecting me as im still tired with headaches after being gluten free (apart from inital improvement then declined again). are skin prick test useful for finding these other allergies/intollerances...
  4. Do countires other than USA use the 'celiac' spelling? 'coeliac' is used in Australia and New Zealand in addition to the UK.
  5. Im not much help but i have started to get headaches everday since being guten free for 7 weeks. I didnt have them before going gluten free.
  6. just thought i should tell you coke itself is a Diarrheic particularly if you drink a litre or more a day. i felt a noticeable difference within days but a significant difference after 2-3weeks gluten free.
  7. thanks for your reply. I thhought i had a lactose intollerance as milk had always made me feel sick in the stomach and often get dioreah (but i was fine with cheese, custard etc?). Since being gluten free i can drink heaps of milk without feeling sick at all so i assumed i wasnt actually lactose intollerant it had just been a side effect of the villi damage...
  8. Hi, I have been gluten free for 8 weeks. for the first 2 weeks i didnt feel that much better but between weeks 2-6 I felt amazing, so much more energy and no gastro complaints and I am no longer lactose intollerant. Problem is for the last 2 weeks i have felt much worse again - have had occaisional dioreah (i dont think related to gluten consumption...
  9. I have read of links between asperger's and celiac but are there links between people carrying the celiac gene but who dont actually have celiac and asperger's? I have celiac and I have a brother and a cousin with asperger's. My brother tested neg for celiac in the blood test. Im wondering if their issues are caused by gluten even if they dont necessarily...
  10. I have had this problem too. I was practically symptom free (fatigue and diarrhea occasionally ie once a week) and i didnt think anything was wrong with me but was routinely tested for celiac because i was ill in my last pregnancy not due to any gastro complaint i had. Yet now after being gluten-free and feeling soooooooooo much better - i didnt know what...
  11. My dietician said i could get BBQ chicken and avoid the skin (in case of Gluten bastings) and the stuffing sections (and bits touching the stuffing) and that would be fine but i still got a stomach ache, dioreah etc after eating it as suggested by the dietician. Was my dietician wrong or did something else gluten me?
  12. I have celiac and my daughter is 16mths and has occaisional dioreah (ie once a week) which often (but not always)corresponds with a visit to grandmas which is not gluten free ie she has bread for lunch. is there any reason i should not make her gluten free just in case? She eats gluten free 95% of the time alreqady as i only cook gluten free foods it...
  13. after not being able to drink milk all my life i can now drink it again after being gluten free 5 weeks! in the past whenever i drank it (as a kid or adult) i got sick in the stomach and usually dioreah and this was the case after id been gluten free 2 weeks when i last tried it. this time after 5 weeks gluten-free no problems at all! this is particularly...
  14. I had my gallbladder out at age 27 as i had a few attacks from where the gall stones were blocking the duct and trying to escape! since its removed i have had no issues from its loss at all. have only been Gluten free a month or so and have seen improvement so I dont think the lack of gall bladder is hurting me
  15. Hi, Ive seen on the board mention of a saliva test done by Diagnos-Techs, Inc. and they're located in Kent, Washington state ($27 US phone number 425 -251 -0596). Can anyone tell me whether you need to be eating gluten for it to pick up celiac- like the blood tests? I want to test my toddler (I have celiac) but not with an intrusive blood test or endoscopy...
  16. yes there is massive engorgement from pregnancy and after birth etc but i still dont think its mainly pregnancy that causes the sagging and massive changes to breasts. i was not able to breast feed unfortunately and although mine were massively engorged after birth they went down soon after with no noticeable differences to firmness or shape and no sagging...
  17. I had also read that it was transferred through breast milk - and this made a lot of sense to me as Im coeliac and for the first 3 months of my life i failed to thrive despite my mother thinking i was being breastfed plenty - she then switched to formula (gluten free) and i immediately started to thrive. re breast shape sure some changes are due to pregnancy...
  18. hi, not really pregnancy related but though you girls would know about these things... my cycle for years was always between 33-37 days (average 35 days) which is very long for someone in their 20's but since going gluten free for the last month or so it was just 27 days? is this common when going gluten free or is it just a freak coincidence? ...
  19. mine got significantly worse during pregnancy and post-partum.
  20. how do you test for a gluten intollerence/sensitivity (ie not necessarily celiac)? do you just try the diet and see if you improve or are there tests like skin prick? (does celiac show up in skin prick tests as an allergy to wheat?) my mother tested neg to celiac in the blood test but has lots of symptoms (fatigue, depression, bloating, had a baby with...
  21. Hi, not to discount the very important and serious neurological problems i have briefly seen on this board caused by celia, but im wondering if celiac can cause severe depression and anxiety. I have celiac and no problems apart from fatigue and a bit of 'brain fog' but my brother has had severe depression and anxiety problems since he was a small child...
  22. Thank you all for your advice. I had better wait longer than my Dr sugested, as you are right it takes a while to get used to the diet and not get glutened! i have only been on it nearly 2 weeks and have stuffed up accidentally twice. doulagirl oh i hope like you i can aviod hyperemesis by eating gluten-free! the stupid thing was i would wake every morning...
  23. Hi, I had hyperemesis last time (on zofran the ENTIRE pregnancy) and it was just horendous - lying there for months with 24/7 severe nausea and vomiting; unable to eat, drink, read, watch tv, listen to music, go anywhere etc as it all made me vomit even more. I had nightmares about being pregnant for months after my beautiful daughter was born. SO...
  24. that is fantastic that the gluten free diet has helped with hyperemesis! it gives me hope to have another go around. let us know if you are celiac. Sorry re cleft lip, my brother was born with a cleft palate probably as my mother was undiagnosed celiac at the time (he shows no ill effects as an adult though). best wishes! (Dev the problem with...
  25. Im recently diagnosed and struggling with the adjustment to the diet. I was always really slim (tallish & 130 pounds) and ate whatever I wanted without ever putting on weight - I loved it and unfortunately as a result am really adicted to chocolates and cakes. Im in my late 20's and have for the last 15 years eaten a minimum of 200g (7ounce) of chocolate...
