ARCHIVED Hidden Gluten
wclemens replied to wildones's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Wildones, hello! Have you eliminated all foods containing milk and dairy (including butter, milk chocolate, casein, whey), egg whites, and yeast? Maltodextrin also can be a problem. These are all problems for those of us in our family who have Celiac. Best wishes. Welda -
ARCHIVED Testing Please Advise
wclemens replied to Beantree's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Shannon, When my newborn grandson began having severe reactions to his milk formula, we changed him to soy, and I immediately sent away for Enterolab.com's "full spectrum" home test kit, which tests for whether he carries the Celiac gene (I have Celiac Disease and allergies to milk, dairy, casein, whey, egg whites, and yeast), is gluten sensitive, and is... -
ARCHIVED What Do You Do?
wclemens replied to Terri-Anne's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Terri-Anne, I have used Suave shampoo and conditioner for so many years, and have done so well with it, that when I began bathing my infant grandson who has Celiac. I watered down the shampoo and used it in his bath water and as his shampoo. It is soothing, soft, and gentle. He continues to have soft, lovely, olive skin, and he smells SO GOOD! Welda -
ARCHIVED Not Getting Better At All, Help?
wclemens replied to rdawn's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
rdawn, I know just how you feel. I also did not get to eat any of my wedding cake, nor most of the catered food, however, be assured that your joy that day will far outweigh any diagnosis of Celiac and any food restrictions you have. I have had Celiac for 51 years (though no one knew that was what was causing my severe Asthma until years later). My mom... -
ARCHIVED I'm Seriously Depressed!
wclemens replied to jesslee23's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi Jessie, I'm a 59 year old retired school teacher and have had Celiac since age 8, when no one even knew what it was or what to do about the symptoms. My asthma was the only way I could monitor what the foods were doing. Now I am a person who runs circles around others, even younger people, with all the energy I have. I only need a few hours sleep... -
ARCHIVED Just Been Diagnosed -- Help Me!
wclemens replied to celiac3270's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Wow celiac3270, it is hard to believe that you are only 13. Having Celiac must have made you smarter than the average population. Just the fact that you are posting here says alot for your determination. I am 59 and have had Celiac since age 8. My primary, main goal in life is to have good health so I can help others. My new grandson has Celiac too... -
ARCHIVED Elimination Diet
wclemens replied to a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi, I've been dealing with Celiac for 51 years now, and used the elimination diet during the 70s to learn that I was allergic to all grains, all milk and dairy products, casein, whey, egg whites, yeast, and anything containing the word "malt". I have been blessed with a facility for fasting, which seems to speed up the healing process, so I would stop... -
ARCHIVED Am I A Failure On This Diet?
wclemens replied to a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Dear Gillian, oh my gosh, I have a hard time believing just how much money all these doctors are raking in, when they seem to lack even a simple knowledge of Celiac. My grandson's doctor told the baby's parents, in front of me, that Celiac is not genetic, and possibly the baby would "grow out of it." Good thing I tagged along, to keep the record straight... -
Ellen, my father and his brother also died of colon cancer, and my sister had trouble having a couple of polyps removed, while mine came out quite easily, so I really relate to your comments. I'm 59 and have been on this diet a long time, so I want to encourage you and others that it will seem much more normal after you've been on it awhile. I think it...

ARCHIVED New Cd Diagnoses....need Help
wclemens replied to lauradawn's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi Laura, welcome to the board. My grandson was diagnosed by Enterolab.com at a month or so of age, after becoming violently ill when drinking cow's milk formula. This stool sample can be ordered online, returned by mail, and can also diagnose whether your child carries the gene for Celiac, is allergic to milk and dairy, along with several other options... -
ARCHIVED Introduction & Hello
wclemens replied to wdavie's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Wendy, it sounds as though you and Grace are taking the diagnosis in a very positive way. Feeling healthy helps us feel more positive as well, I believe, so I am happy that you found this message board and are now part of our group. Molly, I am so thrilled to see your offer of helping other Celiac youngsters with their diets! That is such a nice offer... -

Shirley, Thank you! Yes, things are going well, and I hope that they are going great for you and your family too. Hope your daughter and her family are situated and "feeling at home" in their temporary quarters after the fires. How are you doing Shirley? Welda -
ARCHIVED Confused...please Help!
wclemens replied to eliana's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Becca, I would like to second Kathy's suggestion about using Enterolab. I have used Enterolab to order tests for 7 of my family members, and I have always been more than happy with them, their simple stool sample tests, and their responses after the testing, when it came time for diagnosis. Painless is the word! Welda -
ARCHIVED Confused...please Help!
wclemens replied to eliana's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi Judy and Laurieanne, I learned that I was allergic to egg whites and yeast (along with all grains, milk, and dairy) by simplifying my diet and an elimination diet that I conducted myself. I have been blessed to have asthma for the past 51 of my 59 years, so after eating anything with egg whites in it, or bread with yeast, (or any of the other mentioned... -
ARCHIVED Confused...please Help!
wclemens replied to eliana's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Eliana, I have recently gone through the turmoil of learning that my new little grandson is gluten sensitive and allergic to all milk and dairy, and he is nine months old now, so we are experiencing some calm, though he now has an ear infection and pink eye, both for the second time. I know the heartbreak of seeing your little one in great distress! Here... -
ARCHIVED Totally Confused
wclemens replied to marythemom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Oh Mary, how I feel for you! I am a 59 year old, allergic to all gluten, milk, dairy, egg whites, and yeast. I started having asthma at age 8 and a myriad of symptoms following that, for years and years, until finally going on a strict diet that eliminated all the foods to which I was allergic. Now my 9 month old grandson has the same allergies, and... -
Wayne, I have accidentally ingested casein and had horrible reactions, including a severe asthma attack, my breathing passages closing up, etc. Also I have accidentally eaten food with whey in it and had the same reactions. I work diligently now to read each and every label before I try any new food, never wanting to experience those negative side effects...

Laurie anne, I have yeast allergies also, in addition to gluten sensitivity. I also have milk, dairy, and egg white allergies. If I ingest any of the previously listed foods, I have asthma within 15 minutes or so. I agree with Shirley, that you must be on guard about other food allergies, as well as gluten sensitivity. Sulfites, casein, whey--they all...

ARCHIVED Hello I'm New Here And Wanted To Say Hello
wclemens replied to mamatolilianna's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi Heather, I'm glad you found this site. I know it seems overwhelming right now to think of how you're going to deal with this diet day in and day out, but believe me, it does become easier, and because you feel so much better eating gluten free and milk/dairy free, I really believe our brain chemistry changes for the better, allowing us to see the more... -
ARCHIVED Very Confused
wclemens replied to jesslee23's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I've used Enterolab, and think very highly of them. We took my now nine month old grandson off milk after he had diarrhea, stomach cramps, severe diaper rash, and lots of distress. I am gluten sensitive and allergic to milk and dairy, and I sent for the full spectrum stool test from Dr. Fine ($368) and learned that our grandson is also gluten sensitive... -
ARCHIVED Million Dollar Words
wclemens replied to Terri-Anne's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi, I know I wrote down who made those animal crackers and how to find them, but now I am in need of a reminder. I would appreciate any help on how to find them. Were they made by Mi-del? Thanks so much! Welda -
ARCHIVED The Doctor Just Called This Moring. Lots Of ?s
wclemens replied to 4angels's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Annie, my new little grandson was diagnosed at about 2 months with gluten sensitivity and allergies to milk and dairy, through Enterolab. It was so painful to see him suffering each time he drank his formula. By 6 months (and off all gluten, milk and dairy) he was at the 90th %ile for height and the 75th%ile for weight. He thrives, as long as no one accidentally... -
ARCHIVED Coping With Kids' Gluten Accidents...
wclemens replied to seeking-wholeness's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I want to say that I can totally identify with what you all are saying, having raised three kids, and helped in raising 6 of my 7 grandkids. When my kids were little I was undiagnosed but had been Celiac since age 8. I suspect that my 3 were also gluten intolerant, and they're now being tested. My newest grandson has already been diagnosed Celiac and allergic... -
ARCHIVED Million Dollar Words
wclemens replied to Terri-Anne's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Oh my gosh, it made me cry! I can just see Logan sitting there smiling, and next I picture my little grandson Dakota, smiling the same way when I finally find those animal crackers and get him some. Having lived with Celiac for the past 51 years, I, too, sat so many times wanting to eat what everyone else was, but I couldn't. I am SO HAPPY that Logan got...
