  1. Irritability and mood swings are just a symptom of gluten ingestion for me. Some doctors are wiling to treat the symptoms if they are bad enough. Otherwise, my spouse usually sees the change in moods before I notice it. Best of luck finding a happy middle ground.
  2. I have to say I love the idea of a totally gluten-free place to eat: however, if I don't want you or anyone else to have abusiness go under. I do have some places in my area that have gluten-free meals and we eat there on occassion, but for the most part it is a hastle due to location and lack of choices. I would have to say go forward with a modified version...
  3. Hi, I'm the celiac in our family, but we also have a child with a peanut allergy. I am 30 weeks pregnant. My OB is of little help regarding the entire Celiac issue. I just had to spend a long visit at my Gastro who I do like and trust very much to sort of all of my issues with regards to the pregnancy and what needs to happen or not. My Gastro is...
  4. I really miss my pizzells! We had some regular Gluten loaded pizzells around for christmas and it made me sad. The recipe is from a great aunt in Italy and was wonderful! If you find a recipe, good or bad, please post it. I'll need to buy a designated pizzelle maker, but it would be worth it! Thanks!
  5. Congrats!! I'm in my 7th month and not having the best time of it as far as the pregnancy goes. My first pregnancy while an undiagnosed Celiac was much easier over all. Too much stress in my life As for the morning sickness, try the wrist bands for motion sickness. They really helped me. I ended up having to get medication at one point due to vomitting...
  6. As a parent I would have to say it can be irritating if a total stranger walks up and tells you how to care for your child. Given the situation you have explained, I would bring it up to the mutal friend or teacher. Ask the friend to contact the other parents and ask if the child has some other medical condition, if so end the issue there. If no other medical...
  7. Maybe I am just having a bad week of it and I don't mean to rant. Actually I don't expect the doctor to know everything about Celiacs or to do all of the research. However, I do expect to be taken seriously and I do expect some level of concern and guidance for the safety of the patient. My primary care doctor is a PA and he looks everything up and states...
  8. Does anyone have a good OB/GYN they would recommend in the Atlanta area? Piedmont hospital is as far north as I want to go. I am 6.5 months into the pregnancy and having more and more problems with my current OB over Celiacs. Any suggestions on how to find a good OB if you cannot recommend one? Thanks!
  9. Hi, I need some help and advise please about doctors and hospitals in general. 1. Should my OB be at least acknowledging that I have celiacs and that I need all medications checked for gluten? To date, to request that the medication be gluten free is answered with "talk to the pharmasict". When I forced the issue, she literally, just called my pharmasict...
  10. Yup that's normal. I can't explain why, but I know the same thing happened to me. Search the archives and I'm sure you'll find more info. Track your food and call on EVERYTHING before you eat it. You will feel much better in the end. Good luck!
  11. Thanks everyone. I am hopeful that your info will put this argument to rest once and for all.
  12. Thanks for the info. For the record, I don't want a cast iron pan. I am just tired of having the debate as to exactly why I cannot use it with someone who wants a technical chemical based answer. I am not a technical chemical person. And since we always have the debate I am left wondering if certain parts meals have been prepared on a cast iron pan just...
  13. Can someone explain the reason why cast iron pans and teflon pans are not acceptable? I have cast iron pans that are seasoned and are regulary used for gluten containing meals like pancakes. I am currently not using them for gluten-free meals, but this is a regular question by non-celiac family. Thanks!
  14. I have had a VERY hard time finding a pharmacsit who was willing to work with me on the gluten-free status of medications. I finally found a chain pharmacy where they are willing to look items up or pass the phone numbers on to me. Maybe two weeks after having my first medication filled by the new pharmacist, she found an article that spoke to Celiacs and...
  15. Hi and welcome! Pregnancy kicked off all the fun for me. At 33 I finally had a diagnosis of Celiacs. The wonderful news is that a year after my diagnosis my Mom finally made the connection that when I was so sick as an infant and the doctor told her "my villi was flat" it was probably Celiacs. Nice to know that some things have changed in all that time...
  16. My daughter had ear tube surgery at a similar age. Anything that involves putting a small child under is scary. For us, the surgery was very scary for the parents but not so bad for her. They let me hold her until she passed out, which helped her but made me feel terrible. My suggestion would be to ask if you can be present immediately after the procedure...
  17. I carried a baby to term and delivered a perfectly healthy baby while suffering from undiagnosed Celiacs. My arms, legs, and face got thinner as my belly got bigger. Three years after her birth I finally got a diagnosis of Celiacs. Now I am pregnant with my second and have had several gluten accidents (gotta love restaurants and hospitals!) and so far the...
  18. I may have to get some of those cards too. I have had two servers at two different restaurans tell me that I could not have the potatoes. Their reason: Adkins or thought potatoes were a gluten containing item. And these are from restaurants with gluten-free menus that have the potatoes listed as gluten-free!!! The pans should have been clean, but anything...
  19. I usually call any questionable restaurant (i.e., does not have a gluten-free menu on the web site) before I go during slow hours and speak with a manager to figure out what I can eat. That used to work great for me. Now its not working. This is the third time in as many months that I have had a gluten ingestion reaction. The most recent was while I...
  20. My child decided t ohold all poopy. IT has been a nightmare. Talk to the doctor. Our Doctor prescribed a stool softener which my daugther could not stop from going poop. After changes in diet, medication, and just growing up, she is much better now. Now she demands that we come and see the poopy in the potty. Full circle! But the medication really helped...
  21. Actually, I've ordered the subscription. I love the magazine. It is not just for celiacs, but every magazine so far has had infomration on Celiacs and peanut allergies. Both of those topics are important in my house, so I am thrilled!

    ARCHIVED Med.alert

Call Medic Alert. They were very helpful when I called to get my daugthers bracelet. And they do collect quite a bit more info than is printed on the bracelet. I have been told that hospital and paramedics check necks (for necklace medialert) and wrists (for the bracelet medicalert) first.
  23. When I first got diagnosed I bought one of those food savers that vacuum seals the food. I thought this might make my life easier in that I could cook nad freeze more food longer. Turns out that one of my favorite uses of the "Food Saver" is to make condiment sized bags of sauces. I stock them in th fridge and grab a few when I go out. I stock my gluten-free...
  24. You may want to find some gluten-free cook books and see if you find some interesting sauces, side dishes, or desserts. Personally, basic meat, baked potatoes, sweet potatoes, fresh steamed veggies make a great meal. Why don't you make up a dinner plan and then get the celiac involved for the shopping or cooking of the meal. Also, you can ask her to make...
  25. I use Nature Made Vitamins. It does not require a prescription and states gluten-free on the bottle. I bought mine at BJs (warehouse store). So far I am 5 months along, had several gluten accidents last month, but the baby is just fine. FYI: You may want to look into the sonogram schedule at least as far as your OB is concerned. I go to a great OB...
