ARCHIVED Gf Coolers For Summer!
hapi2bgf replied to foxyfire24's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
My drink is a vodka and cranberry (Cape Cod). I drink Smrinoff, but I belive Grey Goose and other vodkas are ok. You'll have to check the brands. I was told by Absolute that the Absolute Vodkas are not a good choice for celiacs. If you want a non-alcoholic drink, smoothies are great. Buy frozen strawberries, peaches, and blueberries. Add some of all... -
Just curious if anyone gets the Living Without magazine. I have been looking for a copy to read, but none of my stores carry it. Thanks

ARCHIVED Just Diagnosed, Have Questions
hapi2bgf replied to Karina's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
My doctor wouldn't even discuss the issue of how long have I had this Celiac disease. He said we just have no way of knowing what was in the past. I too have a history of anemia, abdominal pain, diahrea, gas, "stomach" problems, etc. As a baby switching to formual I get extremely ill, the docotr had to give the all clear for the family to take me to a holiday... -
ARCHIVED Restaurant Eating...is It A Possibility?
hapi2bgf replied to jewlr22's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I used to eat out a couple of times a week before celiacs and now I do not eat out as much - but I do go. For me and the people I know, eating out is as much a social activity as it is just getting a meal. In my own opinion, I will not let this diet force me to never eat out again. On that same note, I am very careful about where I go and what I eat, and... -
ARCHIVED Make Your Own Pasta?
hapi2bgf replied to hapi2bgf's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Thanks for all the feed back. I like the idea about the corn tortillas for Mexican Lasagna. Maybe when I have a few hours free, I'll try to make some raviolli. -
I have finally found one brand of corn pasta that is good, but the store is not close. Plus it is only spaghetti, and I wanted some other pasta options. I don't care for the plain rice pasta all that much. Does anyone make their own pasta? I know the recipe is basically flour and water and egg if you want it. I'm trying to find out if it is worth my time...

I have celiacs. Biopsy positive. Blood test barely elevated and did not suggest the level of damage the biopsy revealed. My daughter had an elevated blood test using an older method. The newer blood test method by the Pediatric GI showed her as negative for Celiacs. My mother has all of the signs, but will not be tested. My brother has many of the...

ARCHIVED Sunscreen
hapi2bgf replied to hapi2bgf's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The only safe sunscreenI have found so far is Nuetragena's Healthy Defense. BUt I think they are cancelling that line of products. Plus it runs about $7 a bottle and it is not a huge bottle. Please call and verify first. The option of wearing a hat and long sleeves doesn't cut it for me. I burn VERY fast. I used to tan using BullFrog's 36. Great stuff... -
I was anemic all of my life. I would take the supplements for months and have only slight iron improvement, etc. Well the most recent doctor looked into all of my problems and was concerned that my blood work came back showing malnurishment and anemia. Long story short I finally agreed to an endoscopy and found that I have text book celiacs. The doctor said...

I can't make it to the 24th meeting. I am still trying to find a support group that I could make the meetings. It seems something always comes up on the day of the meetings. Could you post the contact information for the Cobb Support Group? Thanks!

ARCHIVED Anyone Have Skin Problems?
hapi2bgf replied to hapi2bgf's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Thanks for the replies everyone. I am beginning to think that the skin splits must be related to intestonal damage. I have had open skin splits for at least a month now and cannot get them to go away. Prior to being gluten-free I used to have TERRIBLE PMS. I have tried every form of medication and nothing cuts the PMS to a tollerable level. After going... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Have Skin Problems?
hapi2bgf replied to hapi2bgf's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Thanks Shirley, I was thinking that the Skin splits amy be coming from Gluten contact not ingestion. My hands seem to break open after touching something with Gluten even if I wash my hands right away with soap and water. Washing my hands always worked for my cat allergy. I was hoping it would work with the gluten. Since you are one of the few people... -
Does anyone know of a gluten-free sunscreen that can be purchased at a regular store like a Wal-Mart? What does everyone use for sunscreen? Please list the brand names. I used to use BullFrog stick and the original version, but that was before knowing about my celiac disease. Is Bullfrog safe?? Thanks!

I live in the Atlanta area too. I like my doctor, but he didn't help at all regarding figuring out the diet. Maybe if you, or someone else, finds a good dietician or doctor in the area we could get the information posted somewhere. It would be a huge help to have a good doctor or dietician to help figure out the diet.

ARCHIVED Anyone Have Skin Problems?
hapi2bgf replied to hapi2bgf's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I have not been tested for allergies in years, but I know my allergies are only environmental (cats, dusts, etc.) I've never had a problem with latex. I may have to find a naturapath or homepathic type doctors. I have not had a good primary doctor in a long time and I can only uess that having celiacs will make it even harder to find a good primary care... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Have Skin Problems?
hapi2bgf replied to hapi2bgf's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Thanks for writing back. Did you get these skin splits for a long period of time when it happened to you? I had my thyroid tested years ago when I first started getting seriously ill. I don't remember exactly what was tested, but the results were normal. I don't have insurance right now, so I am trying to avoid going to the doctor for the time being... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Have Skin Problems?
hapi2bgf replied to hapi2bgf's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Does anyone have trouble with the skin on their hands? I would really like to find someone who has or has heard of my problem. My finger tips split open and bleed, which is very painful. Sometimes the would can take several weeks to heal. I have had this problem all of my life, but after going gluten-free it has gotten worse. Normally, the skin would... -
PLEASE HELP! My finger tips literally split open and bleed, which is as you can imagine very painful. It might be called a skin fusion? I have never been able to get a diagnosis or cure for the problem. Sometimes the wounds can take weeks to heal. (I am not diabetic) So far Band-Aid brand Liquid bandages are my best chance at getting the wounds to heal...

ARCHIVED Fiber
hapi2bgf replied to YankeeDB's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I have bought Rice Bran and it works great. I mix it in a smoothy, so I can't taste it too much. I belive the brand is Ener-G. I buy it at Whole Foods Market, but have seen it in other Heath food stores. -
ARCHIVED Daughter Won't Eat
hapi2bgf replied to ksccurrin's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
kscurrin, Is your daughter not hungry, or does she just not want to eat? If she is never hungry, you may want to ask about gastroparesis as a possible problem. The GI should be able to check for it. I have the gastroparesis and I was NEVER hungry, ate often - per the doctor, and lost weight! And when I did get hungry I would be full after a small amount... -
ARCHIVED Problems In Pregnancy With Cd
hapi2bgf replied to laelfin's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I'm in a similar position to all of you. I started dropping weight and then got pregnant before I knew I was in trouble with undiagnosed Celiacs. I had a text book pregnancy except for the fact that I was skin and bones. The baby gained enough weight and was fine. So far she has tested negative to Celiacs, but she does have some serious poop issues that are... -
I had that same type of test done on me years ago by a chiropractor. I did not request the test, he just started since I had so many stomach issues. Yes I thought the guy was a quack at the time. I was just trying to get out of the office. I was told I was allergic to corn, tomatoes, chocolate and I forgot the rest. I few years after this test I started having...

ARCHIVED New To This And Don't Know Where To Start...
hapi2bgf replied to nickra's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I can't say I wanted to keep it a secret, but then again with my Mom there is no way to keep ANYTHING a secret for very long. I was so sick for so long I was thrilled to have an answer that did not involve chemotherapy or worse. I am an extremely private person and I have found that by explaining the celiac disease to friends and family I actually have less... -
ARCHIVED Does Anyone Feel Better?
hapi2bgf replied to SteveW's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
SteveW, I was diagnosed in Oct 2003. I had blood work stating malnurishment, anemia, etc. I have seen a huge change in my life since then. Friends and family comment on how skinny I was and how I look so much better now. I have color again - premanently anemic and now it is fixed. I was too exhausted to ride my bike more than 10 minutes before. I have...
