  1. My sister made me Chocolate Cake for my birthday. She used a gluten-free all purpose blend for the flour. It was the best chocolate cake I've ever had. Not the best gluten-free one, the best one period. Very rich, and very moist. I asked her for the recipe. The cake and frosting recipe were just the recipes from the back of a box of Hershey's Baking...
  2. I made cornbread last week from scratch. If you just use a gluten-free all purpose flour mix instead of all purpose flour, it's easy and it tasted like the real thing. I'm not a person who really cooks/bakes, so trust me when I say it was really easy to make, I just used the recipe off the box of corn meal, it took about 3 minutes to mix and throw in the...
  3. I'm not much of a cook or baker, I've been gluten-free for 3 years, and have not done much experimenting. I just use an all purpose gluten-free blend from Tom Sawyer. It is great in brownies, cakes, crepes, gravy, etc. Haven't tried to make bread even once since dx, even though I used to bake bread every week. The Tom Sawyer blend can replace all purpose...
  4. Aren't moms great. My mom has developed a new hobby over the last year since I was Dx. Everytime I go over to her house (probably 3 times a month or so) she is so excited to give me the new gluten-free treat she has found. Cookie and cake mixes, last time it was french bread mix. She's the bomb.
  5. I took the blood test 9 months ago and it came back positive. It was the end of a very scary pregnancy with severe severe anemia...(hemoglobin at 7.5) I had been blood tested for so many things I was so shocked when this came back positive. Even though I have fairly silent celiac (only the anemia and the occasional migraine) I have been very committed to...
  6. My friend told me I should try this stuff. Kyani. Has anyone heard of it? Apparantly it is pretty new, supposed to be great for energy, appetite, and overall health, i.e. it has tons of antioxidants. I read the labels on the website www.kyani.net/michelleperry and it looks gluten-free to me. Does anyone know if this would be ok to take? I ordered some...
  7. I just noticed on another thread someone mentioned that spicy food makes their mouth burn. I never thought of this as a symptom, but have had a problem with it for 8 years. Anyone else have this as a symptom? Diagnosed 2 months ago, on the basis of nothing other than life-threatening anemia, but finding new symptoms all the time that I thought were just...
  8. Hi, I am due August 5th, halelujah, and this is my 5th. I was only dx with celiac 2 months ago. I am fairly asymptomatic, except severely anemic. With the gluten-free diet, my hemoglobin levels have gone up from a 7.4 to an 8.5. Incredible. If I can get up to the 9's I will be so excited. With my first four pregnancies, couldn't figure out why my iron...
  9. Hi Everybody! I am a brand new celiac.....well, at least brand new to knowing what I have! I am pregnant with my fifth little one, and have been having a number of blood tests run because of SEVERE anemia. After checking 3 or 4 things, including thyroid and hemoglobin H, I asked my midwife to have a celiac panel done on me. I guess we hit the jackpot...
