  5. Hi there - I have a week off at the end of this month/beginning of next, and I just want to GO somewhere. I'll be traveling alone and I'd love to go someplace that has celiac-friendly restaurants, something like that. I don't have tons of money, but enough to have a few options. Does anyone have any recommendations? Places to eat? Places to stay? Gimme...
  6. I really appreciate all the responses - thank you! I'm definitely going to mention it to my doctor, whom I can finally call tomorrow when it's no longer a weekend! it always seems the weird-health happens on a weekend.. thanks, everyone!
  7. hi everyone, brief backstory: had 2 accidental glutaminations which I am recovering from, so it's not much of a mystery WHY I'm having these symptoms, -but- I am hugely dizzy, not the lightheaded, shaky kind, but the I-just-spun-around-fifty-times kind, where the room feels like it's swaying and swooping and if i try to walk I bump into the wall...
  8. back to the subject of cheating: first of all, (check other forums) it's not something typically *done* by celiacs. most of us have been so sick we'd never willingly submit our bodies to gluten again! second of all, what the author ought to know AND report to her readers is that even if someone eats gluten and feels NO EFFECTS WHATSOEVER, the internal...
  9. well, they say that there is only a ten percent chance that a celiac will have a celiac child - so I assume that w/ a celiac spouse, it would stay the same, or else be 20% - I don't really know if the risk is officially doubled! there is actually a higher likelihood that your sibling would have celiac disease rather than your child. so that's a relief,...
  10. what should you do if you just ate some by mistake? I ate about half a bag of Doritos before I realized they changed the ingredients to add wheat flour - my stupid mistake - but now what? I can't reach my doctors, I tried unsuccessfully to throw the food up when I first realized. It was about an hour ago and the only symptoms I have (other than panic)...
  11. larger chain health-food/organic-focused stores tend to have good selections. Around Chicago, for example, there is Whole Foods. Around Indianapolis there is Wild Oats. If you don't know of one, you might want to google "gluten free" and the name of your town. Also, there are a ton of gluten-free stores online. this, at first, doesn't seem nearly...
  12. good news for you and your kettle corn! taken directly from the website: Open Original Shared Link Are your products gluten free? ACT II Microwave Popcorn does not contain gluten or related proteins obtained from wheat, rye, barley, and oats and ingredients derived from these cereal grains. Allergen information obtained from our ingredient...
  13. mine is still positive after 10 months gluten-free!!! I haven't eaten gluten! I don't know the numbers, though. I don't know what to do
  14. hi, I was diagnosed in December after being gluten-free one month. I continued to be gluten-free and had antibody blood tests re-done in the spring which showed, reportedly, that I was still getting "significant" gluten. I did find out there was barley and oats in a nutrition bar that I had thought was okay previously (because I looked at it so early on...

  16. not all Clinique make-up is gluten-free! I do not have DH so I only worry about lip products. ALL ABOUT LIPS contains gluten, and so does their tinted Superbalm! also Long Last Soft Shine lipstick contains gluten. Almost Lipstick and Different Lipstick do not contain gluten. I e-mailed them earlier (last month) and they sent me this list of ingredients...

  18. have you heard of "the other name" for it, which is Tropical Sprue??? it sounds like SUCH a fun disease, like a luau for the gut! riiight.
  19. heh, when my doctor drew the picture, it was a flat line. poor villi! I had some really rough going and now I'm starting to be able to stomach much much more, so it really does get better. everyone hang in there!
  20. I'm guessing, since it's May, it's too late to take the survey (hey, I'm new-ish here!) but I'd be super-interested in seeing your results! thanks!
  21. my doctor calls it "hypoglycemic episodes" which are brought on as a result of celiac disease. I think they're supposed to go away as my body heals. pretty fun to have in the middle of class, though! I practically had to "borrow someone's Coke" the other day!
  22. thank you, ma'am!
  23. anyone know of a really good, tried & true lemon cake or cookie recipe? I've tried several things, using cookbooks AND trying mixes, and everything's been actually gross. please share, if you've got the solution! and thanks!
  24. coke and pepsi products are all gluten-free. I just call the company any time one of these iffy ingredients pop up, or lots of times, the company's website will include in the FAQ section, a statement about gluten-free-ness. gluten freedom?
  25. thank you all so much. I've gone out and bought myself some Silk! I used to drink Westsoy and I think the only iffy ingredient is the brown rice syrup, but I've contacted them several times and received no reply!
