  1. Dang Kool-Aid... It upsets me to hear that there is so much ignorance out there, but as one who is turning a corner in my gluten-free journey (i.e. not worrying about what the Kool-Aid doctor told me, and just listening to my body which says DON'T YOU DARE EAT GLUTEN!!!), somehow it is amost reassuring to know that I didn't get a referral to the only...
  2. I never considered hair loss to be a problem for me (even though I was losing a drain-clogging wad of it in every shower) because I have thick, long hair. Of course I'll shed more than others, right? Well, I just switched to a new shampoo a few weeks ago because I thought perhaps the wheat in it may be causing problems with my skin and wouldn't you know it...
  3. Wow! Today, it feels like the clouds have parted and the sun emerged. I feel human again! It has been one week since I attempted to regluten- one long week of feeling like a zombie with a hangover- and suddenly today, I feel almost normal. Yay!!! The road ahead is still long, but I have found hope again.
  4. I do not have confirmed DH, although my skin is what led me to wonder if I had celiac. For years, I have had what I referred to as blister-zits on my hands and elbows, and sometimes spanning the forearms between. Occasionally I get small outbreaks on my toes and knees, and I now wonder if the back acne I couldn't get rid of might have been DH. I noticed a...
  5. I think this all is making me look at my pinkies too much! But this curved pinkie comment made me wonder about a different angle: curved toes. My pinkie toes curve under the next toe, and the "ring" toe on one foot curves under my middle toe so far that my middle toe doesn't touch the ground when I walk! When I paint my toenails, I do them all, but...
  6. In my house, we have a running joke about Blue Goodness... It's a pretty lethal gas producer for us! When I saw a dietician last week, she said that a good multivitamin should be sufficient enough for my B vitamins (a great relief since the B supplement I had used before going gluten-free was made with wheat). Personally, I avoid Blue Goodness...
  7. I noticed a marked difference after switching my shampoo. I still have a few stray single blisters here and there, but it's not multiple clusters popping up all over throughout the day like it was! For me, after eliminating gluten from my diet, it seemed to get worse for a while until I changed shampoos!
  8. Eggs aren't a problem for me... yet... that I know of....
  9. YAY!!! Thank you!
  10. I just signed up to get a flu shot through work next month. It didn't hit me until later that perhaps it might not be safe...? This will be my first flu season gluten-free, so I hadn't even considered it until now! Does anyone know offhand if flu shots are gluten-free?
  11. My extended family stayed in some cabins at a lake this weekend- it quickly became a running joke about how many cabins I had "christened" as I purged these attempted glutenings... there's no hiding my symptoms! He's quickly figuring out that regardless of whether my "condition" has an official title or not, I WIL NOT be going back to gluten, EVER. ...
  12. But would any damage show up if I'm not producing the antibodies? Apparently the blood tests came back negative, in spite of what my family doctor originally told me. I don't know that I want to take the chance of going through all of that to possibly have nothing show up. It's a pretty invasive procedure. I am staying gluten-free, I have decided that...
  13. Questions... I don't know about anybody else with dh, but for me, I get relief sooner by breaking them open. This helps them from getting bigger, too, in addition to releasing some of the itch. If I did get a skin biopsy, would it have to be an unopened blister? And then there's the matter of actually trying to plan for one to show up... And you know...
  14. No, I have not gotten confirmation on that, although that's where my journey started! I've had these "blister-zits," as I called them, for years (hmm... dating back to that summer 10 years ago when I developed a "stress-related digestive disorder" and lost a lot of weight in a short amount of time and it hurt to eat...). Anyhow, on a whim one day I looked...
  15. I have classic celiac symptoms related to bowel movements, as well as dh. I requested the celiac blood test. One part of it came up positive, the other not. My family doctor told me to go gluten-free for six weeks to see how it worked for me and then I could do the biopsy if I choose. That was at the end of July. I went to the gastoenterologist today...
  16. Thank you!!!
  17. I believe Miralax is gluten free. I'm still newly diagnosed, so I don't need any "softening" and have never experienced constipation... ever... but those I know who use it swear by it.
  18. Help! I've got a UTI right now and just got some meds, but I don't know if they're gluten-free. My antibiotic is okay, but the pain med they give for UTIs is questionable. I was prescribed Pyridium. I was given the generic, Phenazopyridine. Pyridium, in one source I have, is named in a list of "Not gluten free or suspect ingredients" meds. The 800 number...
  19. I am newly diagnosed in the Fort Wayne area. Anybody on here know of a support group in Fort Wayne, or willing to be part of one if we can get one started?
