  1. Another down side to doing nothing is that she may end up with long term health issues from gluten sensitivity or leaky gut. One of the things that motivated me was searching this site and reading the stories of adults who had vague symptoms as children that weren't attended to (because no one knew better then), and hearing all the health issues they have...
  2. I hate to admit it, but with my daughter who sometimes complains of a headache even when she doesn't seem sick, I give her a few Pez (or other Gluten-free Casein-free candy that looks like a pill) that I have stored in a tylenol bottle. She is glad to take the "medicine", and glad that I am taking her ills seriously, and, often that cures the headache...
  3. Boy, I don't know what I would do, but I can tell you that my DD has leg pain as a primary complaint with her gluten sensitivity. And it takes a long time to totally go away after gluten exposure. I guess if you're not worried that there coud be another unrelated cause, I would give pain relievers, we use hot water bottles at night, and just give it a little...
  4. My dd went gluten-free about a month ago and has gotten progressively better and had been symptom free the past week or two. Sunday we went to Whole Foods and she had one slice of Golden Farms german salami. There were no 'gluten' ingredients on the label. An hour or 2 later, her belly swelled up (she is thin, so it was easy to see how bloated she was...
  5. I had recurrent symptoms on and off for the first few months after going gluten free. I always racked my brain trying to figure out what had gluten in it, but I think it was just my body healing. It was not a straight line of improvement, but a bumpy road with an overall upward trend. I would say hang in there and wait. I, too, wouldn't be anxious...
  6. Rachelle, Thanks for the recommendation. I will try Pamela's. I have tried other mixes that we haven't liked. I'm sorry my first post was a little confusing. I guess I am surprised that I am reeling. I have been gluten-free long enough that it felt like no big deal, but now with DD2 she is crying almost every day about being gluten-free and I feel...
  7. Well, I could use some help, even after 1 1/2 years of being gluten-free! I went gluten-free/DF 4-06 and largely cut out breads and baked goods altogether, with the occasional gluten-free treat. DD2 (age 5 at the time) went gluten-free, CF, a year ago, and soy free a month ago (positive enterolab results). She transitioned without incident and will declare...
  8. Geoff, Oops, you are right. They do have flavors like
  9. Hi, A skin biopsy is much less invasive (and isn't really a big deal), and if it is positive, you have the answer. Unfortunately, if it's negative you still don't know. I would do the enterolab test in addition (or instead). Our dd2 was negative on blood test, and had improvement on a gluten-free diet. It wasn't until we did enterolab and removed...

  11. We go to Cold Stone Creamery. Tell them you have allergies, they will get a clean tray to put over the cold stone, and they will get a clean scoop. None of their flavors have added things (you then tell them what you want mixed in to get your custom flavor), so there shouldn't be any gluten in the bucket of ice cream. We are dairy and gluten free, my kids...
  12. You may also want to google heavy metal toxicity (like arsenic and mercury). If I remember properly, they can cause bleeding, fatigue, bad breath etc. and are often over-looked by the medical community. Like celiac, routine blood levels are not always indicitative of toxicity (your blood level may be low, but you have enough of the heavy metal in your other...
