  1. I have heard for years that pads and tampons can actually make your periods longer and the cramping more painful due to the chemicals/synthetics in the products. Although I didn't think people were lying when they talked about how their periods were so much easier after switching to all natural products, I just didn't really believe it would make much difference...
  2. We have cut out almost all processed foods, but do have a few that remain simply for the ease of feeding four kids and two of them being quite young. Our processed foods consist of Lifestream Mesa Sunrise gluten free waffles, Envirokidz gluten free cereals (Panda Puffs, Gorilla Munch, and Koala Krisps), and Envirokidz gluten free peanut butter Crisp Rice...
  3. Thanks everyone! Regarding non-conventional medicine, I do have a recommendation for a local doctor. Unfortunately, my insurance will not cover him so I have to wait a bit before we see him. I am going the conventional circuit right now and then I will have all those tests and evaluations out of the way. Maybe the GI will be a significant help...or...
  4. Ug. Unfortunately I am 99% sure she can't do Pepto. That pink color is undoubtedly not natural and she can't do anything with FD&C colors. I'll look into it, but I doubt she can do it. Maybe I can find an alternative with the same active ingredient. Thanks, Cathy
  5. My dd will be 16 yo in less than 2 weeks. Her symptoms have been varied and led her to trying a gluten free diet. She had some immediate relief which convinced her that she doesn't ever want to consume gluten again. Some of her symptoms have drastically improved, some have mildly improved, some have not changed, and some have gotten worse. Here is her...
  6. How do we know which Tums are safe?? I read on a gluten free list that all Tums except one type were safe. I need to know if the type I just got my dd are not safe then! Thanks!
  7. We are new to gluten-free. We are also Feingold (avoid petroleum based additives, etc.) I have found the most amazing lotion by recommendation of other Feingold families. It is called Gloves in a Bottle. Because my ds can't color with markers and such because it absorbs into his skin and makes him react, this lotion was recommended to me. It provides...
  8. Thank you so much everyone! Cathy
  9. This may be a dumb question, but we are pretty new to living gluten-free. My dd had to have an MRI today and they gave her a solution by injection for contrast. Do any of you know if it is gluten free? The brand name is Multihance and it is gadobenate dimeglumine. I tried to search the internet for info about it, but wasn't coming up with anything to...
  10. I'll try to keep this as short as possible. We suspect all four of our dc (and now ourselves) of gluten intolerance. We tested our oldest dd with the complete gluten panel w/casein from Enterolab and our other three dc with just the gluten and casein tests. So far two of the tests have come in - the one for our oldest dd and one for our 4 yo ds. The test...
  11. I am pretty new here, so this may have already been linked at some point. I found this article during a search for other information. Unexpected Mortality Increase Found in Celiac Disease: Open Original Shared Link Cathy ETA: The article is on page 10.
  12. Thank you so much for your help! I did a google search earlier today for "dermatologist celiac" and my city name and came up with a doctor who had spoken at a local celiac group's meeting about DH! She spoke about the need to take a proper biopsy, etc at the meeting. She is on our insurance, too! I called the office today and the gal on the phone was...
  13. So, if I cannot get her into the dermatologist right away, does she need to eat gluten before the visit? She has had this rash since last spring (at least), but she has been gluten free since September 25th (well except for the fact that she obviously got CC because she is miserable right now.) Sometimes it can take months to get into a specialist. If...
  14. Okay, I am going to try to post photos...let's see if I can do this... This is of my dd's upper back along the spine. The lower right one started out as a smaller red spot with a clear blister. This photo was taken the following day when it is a lerger red spot and not as clear in the blister. The upper left spot is one that has been healing. The others...
  15. Why does this post show up on the subforum page as the newest topic, but I don't see it on the DH main page?? Also - as a related skin question I wanted to mention that my dd has had what we call "arm bumps" down the back of her arms (below the shoulder to the elbow) her whole life. They are bumps that are filled with a white substance that will come...
  16. I suspect my almost 16 yo dd is gluten intolerant for a long, long list of reasons I won't list here. She has been gluten-free for over four weeks and is finally starting to feel better (at least until today - we think she got glutened from a CC mustard jar yesterday). Anyway, I have just started to read up on DH and I wonder if she has it. She has...
  17. Hi everyone, I have a couple questions: 1. What is detox like for going gluten-free? How long does it last? 2. What do you think about EnteroLab? If we use them, which tests do you recommend? We are a family of six and probably would not test everyone initially, but I would want to test at least two right away if we went this route. I need...
