ARCHIVED Promethius Lab Vs Enterolab
MammaW replied to MammaW's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
So thanks for everyone's thoughts on the lab issue. I am still trying to get my insurance to pay for the testing....I have submitted a "medical necessity" letter in hopes that they will pay. My doctor had no real opinion re Enterolab, but actually uses Prometheus regularly. I think my plan will be to see what my insurance will pay for and go from there... -

Thanks for the info...I think I am going to try to go with Prometheus if I can get my insurance to cover -
My one year old is allergic to rice....it is a very rare thing in this country our allergist says. Of course it is the first thing I gave him for solids and he would projectile vomit it every time. We had him tested (RAST) and sure enough. Also when I found out he was allergic, I gave it up too as I was nursing and his rash cleared up...he had had this...

ARCHIVED Promethius Lab Vs Enterolab
MammaW posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Just wanted to see if anyone had any thoughts about testing....My friend who is a dietician recommends Promethius lab for testing. I asked her what she thought about Enterolab and she just said she was not familiar with it. I see that Prometheus is more expensive, but has anyone had any experience with one or the other being recommended? Any differences... -

MammaW replied to Mern27's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi there, I am very new to all this too. We don't even have a diagnosis for my 1 year old, but I have learned SO much from everyone here on this board. I wish I could remember all the good postings I have read that sound similar to yours, but I guess I would just say keep reading and reading here on this board -especially the "parents with kids" section... -

ARCHIVED Toddler With Celiac And Food Allergies
MammaW replied to mom with gf toddler's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I would be VERY INTERESTED in your baking choices in terms of the rice allergy. That has been a tough combo for us. I have not tried the sorghum?? But wow alot of gluten free alternatives contain rice. Any favorites for you? I have a picky almost one year old and a two year old! Also, does anyone have a favorite "Banned food list"? I am really still... -

MammaW replied to MammaW's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Update: So of course our bloodwork came back negative...I never really had high hopes for that confirmation though. soooooooooooo I am going to continue to keep my little man gluten-free for now and see what happens. still considering the enterolab option, but not sure - maybe if i see no improvement after being gluten-free for a while i'll go more that... -
ARCHIVED Toddler With Celiac And Food Allergies
MammaW replied to mom with gf toddler's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My almost 12 month old was diagnosed with peanut and rice allergy (rice allergy of all things!) who the heck ever heard of a rice allergy anyway! He was diagnosed at about 5 months. We have been gluten-free for 5 days now- yeeeeha! Most gluten-free food is full of rice. I pull my hair out daily. His rice allergy so far has been just vomitting, but... -
ARCHIVED 9 Month Old - Horrible Rashes
MammaW replied to jaimek's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My 11 month old had a horrendous rash starting about 5 months. (he also has periodic fevers that cannot be explained) First it looked like an amoxicillin allergy, determined it wasn't...kept coming....at one point his poor body looked like someone dipped him in hot water and then painted dots all over him. Saw allergiest and rheumatologist and they tested... -
ARCHIVED A Poo Question
MammaW replied to mcsteffi's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I have to get in on this poop discussion. My oldest son is now 2 1/2 and poops at least 3-4 times each day. Always mushy and foul smelling. He has never had any other symptoms, but the potty training thing is really becoming impossible. My youngest 11 months is the one I am suspecting celiac in and we have been gluten free for three days....to my knowledge... -
ARCHIVED Do You Suspect Celiac In Your Child?
MammaW replied to a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
What great timing to read your story! I started my son on a gluten free yesterday (11 month old) He too has not really ever slept through the night due to what I am guessing is gas/belly pain. No help from doctors in terms of celiac suggestions, but my pediatrician has been very open to any testing or referrals I have asked for. Still the gastroenterologist... -
ARCHIVED Catching Gluten Sensitivity Early
MammaW replied to jasonD2's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I don't about the stomach cancer part, but I do know that the damage to the intestines can heal. I am not even sure that there is any specific damage to the stomach itself, I have only read about the damage to the intestines-never the stomach though. I know that certain cancers do run in families, so I would just make sure that your gastroenterologist knows... -

Ok....so today is our "quit date". As of today, we will be gluten free. I made pancakes for breakfast....(Bob's Red Mill) brand....not great, but not horrible either. I have some shopping to do! Ill keep you all posted. I have read everyone's replies and I am thrilled to have you all in my corner and can't thank you all enough. Stay tuned! -
ARCHIVED Ds Survived Endoscopy!
MammaW replied to Collinsmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I was wondering about that....the endoscopy thing. What is the thinking on scoping a little person like that? If the results are negative, does that mean you are "out of the woods" in terms of celiac as a diagnoses? So you might be able to introduce gluten at a later time in his life if you wanted to without worrying about intestinal damage? I think they... -

ARCHIVED In Limbo, Could It Be Celiac,
MammaW replied to MammaW's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
It is so great to have this forum as a resource....This is such a complicated topic! I have a 2 year old as well so this gluten free house won't be easy, but I am going to make an attempt. I am just hoping that if I don't see improvement, it will be because it is NOT a gluten issue and not because it IS a gluten issue and I am just not knowledgeable enough... -
I am in the middle of having my 11 month old tested and feeling overwhelmed....I was thinking that if it were ME....which I may ask to be tested myself given my long history of stomach issues- if it were positive, I would have a horrible time following a gluten free diet.... I just love my wheat and pasta. Lots of good gluten free stuff out there too I am...

Hi there- some of you may have already come across what I am writing below as i have replied to a few postings with this same story, but I am writing this as it's "own topic" - if you will- to hopefully pick your brains: My 11 month old has been having sleep issues since he was 8 wks old. MammaW replied to Annaem's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I have an 11 month old who has been through so much this year....I have another posting with all the horrible details-but with regard to the b12.....i have always been very defficient, in fact my levels are often down in the low 100s which is pretty bad. I never gave it a thought, but with all my little guys issues it occurred to me to have him tested and...
