ARCHIVED College To Be A Doctor

thank you for that. i emailed the place and asked if i was in the right spot.
  2. thank you for your replies and for forwarding me that thread. i will talk to a recruiter before just giving up but it does seem like the answer is no. Oddly enough though, many people on the other thread thought asthma disqualifies you but my brother is a smoker and has asthma and he was accepted to the Air Force just fine. They even give him discount inhalers...

ARCHIVED College To Be A Doctor

I am considering going to college to be a doctor. I was thinking more along the lines of a diet specialist that specializes heavily on food allergies and "cure diets" like the ketogenic diet that helps people with seizures. Honestly I have never met a professional with these sorts of specialties. What sort of major should I be going for? Dietician with food...
  4. Thank you sbj for explaining further. that does make sense now. Yay now I can at least explain better when a family member asks!
  5. so sbj in a family my size (extended family is over 200 people, not including those who have passed on that were perfectly healthy), would it make sense that I am the only one? (I am trying to make sense of what you replied with)
  6. You may want to try Kinnikinnick Food's All Purpose Celiac Flour. It works almost as well as regular flour.
  7. I have tried many types of gluten-free bread and not found one I can handle much. Millet bread didn't keep well and it was so "seedy" it was hard to chew. I did like the taste though. I have also tried rice and tapioca breads. Tapioca bread was good for baking with, but the rice bread was quite heavy. It was so dense it felt like eating a brick. Anyone...
  8. I actually bought some pickled ginger not too long ago after eating sushi and discovering a love of it. As fas I can tell, it is gluten free. I have eaten about half a jar at one sitting and had no adverse reactions. The best thing to do would be to go to a store that sells it. I believe I got my jar from publix. The product maay vary per brand. Just call...
  9. My parents didn't actually show me their results, only discussed them with me after a doctor discussed the results with them. They weren't very specific but said they had not shown gene markers. I tried to get more information but that's about all they paid attention to.
  10. For cooking I really suggest using a mixture of rice flour, potato flour, and tapioca starch. I bakes as close as possible to regular flour. Almond flour works well for breading. Kinnicknick (Sp?) foods makes excellent products. bob's red mill is another good one. their brownies are to DIE for. She will need to experiment alot but she will soon find alot...
  11. Okay so, I'm confused. If celiac is genetic, Why am I the only one in my whole extended family with it? My mom has Ibs but she was tested for Celiac (blood work and an endoscopy) and both were clearly negative. My dad was tested as well. They were even gene tested. I am the only one as far back as great great grandparents (they aren't around to ask but those...
  12. Hey guys, before I reply to your questions, this post may be closed down soon as it contains personal information. After I reply to this I will edit my posts so as not to show so much personal information. The moderators and I are discussing the fate of the post and perhaps some editting will allow the post to stay up. Just thought I should toss in some FYI...
  13. Like I have said above, i dont participate in unprotected sex. my fiance and i use condoms and i am on the pill. I would use my last dime to buy the pill if i had to and i did find out through a friend that the local health department gives a years worth of packs for $5. I am making an appointment. I am seeing doctors but the OB/GYN is stupid and has no...
  14. To all that decided to be harsh and not even try to answer my question...for irresponsiblilty, I realize its not responsible to have a child right now. But what about the future? What about after I marry and have good financial status? I will want kids then, but what if the disease or whatever is causing these miscarriages will end up causing complete infertility...
  15. I know of a few people that have had this happen, some diabetics, some celiacs, some with other allergies. I also did a few reports on anorexia and discovered that it is actually an addiction. It triggers the same brain cells and areas as cocain and meth and alcohol for addiction. When you start any diet, if you are predisposed for the addiction, it will...
  16. I am 19 years old and was diagnosed Celiac at 16 years, 8 months. Prior to diagnosis, I had experienced many pregnancies (awful, I know, but my parents did not want to pay for any birth control method and condoms seem to routinely break). All except one pregnancy ended in miscarriage within the first 3 months after HORRIBLE morning sickness, constant cramps...
  17. you may want to talk to your doctor about switching birth control. maybe a higher level of hormone too. i had to do that at first because my body was so screwed up it didn't absorb the low hormone pill. it helped after only a few months and i was able to switch to low dose afterwards.
  18. he did the exact same thing with me! I was 17 and could barely walk and had crippling migraines. He took my current symptom list, asked for my health history from the day i was born, and before my mom even hit age 2 of my history he interrupted and told us exactly what was wrong. plus he took the time to explain everything. the appointment was only supposed...
  19. I am so glad someone else on this board knows of him! Isn't he just a godsend of a doctor and so understanding?
  20. I'm 19, i know, just barely a teen still, but I was diagnosed 2 years ago and would love to talk to other people with celiac. My name is kelsey and you can email me anytime at anamia4life89@yahoo.com
  21. atlanta georgia area
  22. I am 19 years old and was considering enlisting in a branch of the military upon high school graduation. Problem is, I have celiac disease, a thyroid goiter, and asthma. I have been gluten free for 2 years, since diagnosis, and am being treated for the goiter and asthma. Does anyone know if the military would take me? pleas email replies to anamia4life...
  23. Not sure exactly how far away it is, but look up Dr. Harry K. Delcher in Atlanta GA. He is the doctor I see and is just amazing. He's an endocrinologist with Celiac himself. Also, if you go see him, theres a store not far from his office called Atlantis Natural Foods. They are supposedly the largest gluten free store in GA.
