ARCHIVED Shrinking
minton replied to minton's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
What does IMHO stand for? I'm not very good with acronyms...I have not consulted a rheumatologist but I will look into it. I will ask my mom (she's the insurance holder) for a list of rheumatologists on our plan and work my way from there. Thank you for understanding about the pain relief...I've had lectures from 2 orthopedic surgeons (the accident messed... -
I have auburn, more to the brown, color. My fiance who is likely to be celiac has bright Irish red hair. the only other diagnosed celiac that I know has black hair (probably brown and then dyed to be black)

Okay so I watch alot of medical shows like House and also Law and Order type shows (I'm debating a career in medical field or a career in law haha). And I started thinking after switching between Law and Order and House marathons one day... If a celiac goes to jail, what are their legal rights for keeping the gluten free diet? DO they even have rights...

ARCHIVED Insensitive Family Members
minton replied to cdfiance's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I know that before diagnosis all of my family, even the extended family, hated seeing me at get togethers. I was the sickling and my mother's favorite quote was "if I had known you would be this way, I wouldn't have given birth to you." I was the sickling, the hypochondriac, the liar, and the outcast. When a new dentist refferred me to the doctor who later... -
haha i thought the D in front stood for DIAGNOSED haha well that's pretty cool. Maybe I should start typinf DF for Dear Fiance since we are thinking he may be a celiac as well.

ARCHIVED Shrinking
minton replied to minton's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I have been checdked for scoliosis every year since 10 years ago. I slouch when sitting, but I have perfect posture when standing or riding a horse (riding is great for posture). The only relevant back symptom that I can think of is that if I slouch while standing, it kills my lower back but if I sit straight up when not riding a horse, that kills my lower... -
Okay let you all laugh at my midget ness. I find it funny as well. In 5th grade I was measured at alot of doctors offices. They all said I was around 5'2. Now, almost a decade later and a senior in high school, I am 4'11! I've stayed gluten-free since diagnosis 2 years ago... I think I am still shrinking, and yes, it's a documented shrinking problem. Asked...

ARCHIVED Maybe Not Celiac?
minton replied to minton's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
As I said in the DH thread, it was said it probably was DH. I have not been eating at home too much lately. When I do, it hasn't been cooked. I will thaw out gluten-free brownies on the counter and eat the or something but I haven't been home enough to cook. -
ARCHIVED Maybe Not Celiac?
minton posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Okay so yes my symptoms since birth fit celiac disease, but given my genetic history (to date nobody in my family even carries the genes much less has symptoms), and a few other things, I'm wondering if I should try reintroducing gluten? Here are things bringing me to wonder: -There are major case studies about ingesting gluten via dust and skin contact... -
Horse lover here!!! My 22 year old gelding just passed on this past summer from cancer. my avatar is him though. I never had a problem with gluten through hay, feed, or dust at the barn. In fact I was way healthier before I lost him, perhaps that's all in my head though, from grief. Mom is allergic to hay, horses, etc. so she just made me shower after...

ARCHIVED Dental Problem
minton replied to Amber M's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hey! There is an autoimmune disease of the teeth and gums that often comes with Celiac (read it in a book). I don't remember what it's called but it basically is rapid tooth and gum decay leading to cavities. Sometimes though, all it does is cause blackish streaks across your teeth. depends on severity. Your dentist may not be aware of this problem and might... -
ARCHIVED A Question For The Ladies
minton replied to mmmSmores's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I never had breast pain before diagnosis but now it happens alot. Before, after, and during my period. They have also grown and I spoke to two doctors about it. One knows little of celiac but confirmed I'm not pregnant so I talked to the other. He's like a gluten free guru to me and he said it's somewhat common from what he's seen. It's like a second time... -
Okay, my first DH patch showed up in 6th grade a day after I saw a brown recluse looking spider on my leg. The patch was on the top of my foot and grew steadily and looked alot like the description of a brown recluse bite except the skin was not dying, just peeling off. So my first guess before diagnosis was brown recluse attacks. When it spread to a...

When I had DH, the scars were a light violet purple ish and would get darker purple the colder I got. I have been gluten-free 2 years and most of my scars from DH have faded over time and are only noticable when you look for them. I do have a few DH spots on my legs that the scars were so bad (i scratched ALOT) that I still grow no hair on my legs there ...

Any of you ever go to the hospital for long terms stays and get fed gluten? I went to the hospital yesterday and ended up calling up their nutritionist only to find out she was clueless. They sent me breaded chicked with garlic toast! They said I had a hypoglycemia attack and wanted to up my carb intake with glutenny products like bread and pasta. Anyone...

ARCHIVED Come On Already. (a Long Post, Sorry)
minton replied to LynziMarie's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Borderline thyroid is enough reason to treat it. You may have a goiter or just hypothyroid for whatever reason. I was told my tests were normal low for years and my first visit to an endocrinologist, he just looked at me and saw the goiter. Given that you say you are obese, a goiter may be hard to see or feel for. I highly suggest second, third, fourth and... -

ARCHIVED Help, Symptoms Returning
minton posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Ok, I know for a fact that I am not being glutened. I can't possibly be glutened on a raw food diet. I'm only eating fruits and veggies! even my milk (raw milk) is out of my diet (too broke). My symptoms have returned. Debilitating migraines are NOT helpful in school. I am so weak I can't even go to the office for advil. I might be taken to the hospital today... -
ARCHIVED Fiance, Celiac?
minton replied to minton's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Well, I approached the subject with him...guess i'm sneaking it cuz he gave me quite the emphatic "NO."but then again, he might just like being sick Can't force him to stop destroying himself if it is celiac. -
ARCHIVED Fiance, Celiac?
minton replied to minton's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
RiceGuy-I've been trying...it's really hard to get guys to change their diet. It was pulling teeth to get him to drop the cigarettes (the smoke aggravates my allergies). I will try for longer but 2 weeks may be all I get. Unless of course he feels like a new man...It would almost be a blessing in every way for me, though a curse for him. He'd have to change... -
Okay so afer talking with my future mother in law and observing her family's dietary habits as well as my fiance's symptoms, I think he might have Celiac. Here is what I've noticed. His family eats organic, non-genetically modified wheat and other gluten products. They drink raw milk, and his mom's cooking is mainly gluten free (she's Italian and makes...

ARCHIVED Anyone Else Just Starting This?
minton replied to XxXMoon-LxXx's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I don't have much experience with food allergies but I can tell you, eat alot of fiber. Not so much that you run to the bathroom every 15 minutes, but fiber at every meal helps you feel fuller. It also helps flush out anything in your system that makes you sick and if you are accidently "poisoned" it will help flush it out a bit faster. plus fiber keeps you... -
ARCHIVED Genetic Freak? Or Something Else?
minton replied to minton's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I doubt I'm adopted (my brother was at my birth haha) but I swear to you, neither of my parents carry the genes according to their doctors. Maybe those who suggested that they carry the other non-US recognized genes might be right. Their doctors aren't as open minded as mine (neither of them have seen my doctor as patients themselves...he's a bit expensive...
