ARCHIVED Oatmeal
Terri-Anne replied to culpusa's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
"Now that they are saying oatmeal is safe would you give your child Maple and brown sugar Quaker oatmeal? How about HealthValley Maple and Brown sugar granola bars?" KellyR My son is supposedly (according to his pediatrician) allergic to wheat, but not celiac. Over the Christmas break we fed him Maple and Brown sugar, and Cinnamon Roll Quaker oatmeal... -
ARCHIVED Is There Only One Lab For The Stool Test?
Terri-Anne replied to the2ofus's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I am with Robin on this. It does almost sound too good to be true. And like most people I've learned to be wary of things that sound too good to be true because they generally are. I have decided to start saving money toward having my son tested. While our pediatrician currently believes Logan has a histamine type of wheat allergy rather than... -
My formerly skeptical mom, has witnessed Logan having a reaction a couple of times and is now convinced I am not just fanatical about what he eats, just for the sake of having a "cause". With family get-together, holiday meals in mind, she asked me if turkey dressing would turn out edible for the rest of the gluten-loving family members if we made...

ARCHIVED What Do You Do?
Terri-Anne replied to Terri-Anne's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Thanks to everyone for your replies. I don't quite understand why an ingestion related problem can be affected by things which remain external to the digestive system, especially in the case of celiac folks with enzyme problems, but I realize they do. Thanks for the Suave tip, as I've been struggling with a good shampoo for a couple of years with my little... -
ARCHIVED Reese's Pieces
Terri-Anne replied to Terri-Anne's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks for your replies. I can see where you are coming from, suggesting perhaps food poisoning, as Logan's symptoms may suggest. But as you can see from my signature, Logan has a histamine type wheat allergy versus celiac type wheat intolerance, so the symptoms he had were typical of his reactions, except much more severe than normal. I have no idea... -
ARCHIVED Reese's Pieces
Terri-Anne posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
When Logan spotted his first vending machine last weekend, he was desperate to buy something from it. So, because he has eaten Reese's Peanut Butter Cups in the past without reactions, I hoped the Reese's Pieces would be a safe treat to get for him. After buying the box, I carefully read the ingredients and still felt they would be safe for him to eat.... -
ARCHIVED Color Of Stools With Children Of Celiac Disease
Terri-Anne replied to celia's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Could anyone tell me where I could view a picture of a celiac child's distended tummy? I'd like to compare my guy's big tummy to try to determine for myself whether he just has a typical little kid posture, or maybe a bloated celiac tummy. thanks -
I know I've read that the glue on stamps and envelopes is NOT gluten free, but I was wondering exactly what it was that the glue is derived from that contains the gluten? ie wheat, oats, rye, or barley I hope that doesn't sound like a silly question!

So can anyone recommend a wheat free body lotion, that would be good for dry skin? My young son has very dry skin in the winter time, and additionally, when he has a food-reaction, even the following day his skin is still very dry and sore and itchy. I have tried a couple of things but they seem to make him worse or he cries because they sting him. The...

Are there specific moisturizer creams like Vaseline Intensive care that are better than others, or unsafe due to wheat content? Also what does anyone know about Oil of Olay moisturizing body wash? My son has been coming out of the tub, really quite red, (no, it is NOT from the water temperature being too warm). We heat with wood and the air/environment...

ARCHIVED Msg
Terri-Anne replied to Lorrie's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Lorrie, I too have read in several places that MSG is not acceptable for people with wheat/gluten intolerances. However, when I spoke with my local nutritionist who specializes in the celiac diet, she assured me that MSG was indeed safe. So I am left in the same boat as you, wondering whether it is indeed safe, and wondering why, if it IS safe, I've read... -
ARCHIVED Million Dollar Words
Terri-Anne replied to Terri-Anne's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi Welda, I bought the Mi-Del gluten-free animal crackers. I purchased them from a local "health food" store that carries various other gluten-free products. Glad to pass along the info! -
ARCHIVED Detective Help Needed
Terri-Anne replied to seeking-wholeness's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi folks, I think I may have stumbled onto an answer for my son's recent bout of daily "food accidents" here........ Could you tell me how citric acid fits into this picture as a possible gluten source? We are a "meat and potatoes" most nights of the week family, and while most of us plop margarine on our taters, Logan has decided he does... -

ARCHIVED Million Dollar Words
Terri-Anne posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I was able to pick up three bags of the gluten-free animal crackers today, on my way home from work, before picking Logan up from daycare. I took one bag into the daycare with me to leave in "Logan's snack cupboard." Of course Logan wanted to sample one before putting them away. He's NEVER had an animal cracker in his life (that he would recall), but he... -
ARCHIVED Purchase Playdough?
Terri-Anne replied to Terri-Anne's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Tarnalberry, I am not sure how to take your post. I think I am a little offended by your perceived tone in the comment "if you even care to test...." I have discussed allergy testing with my pediatrician whom I feel is very competant and compassionate. (due to dealings we've had with him for the past 11 years with unrelated issues) His advice... -
ARCHIVED Purchase Playdough?
Terri-Anne replied to Terri-Anne's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Sarah, Thank you for the information and ideas. I have considered "testing" Logie with some gluten containing food that did NOT contain wheat, to see whether he reacted or not in the past. Initially I thought I was doing that by giving him oatmeal, (he loves granola bars and porridge,) but according to what I've read on here, the gluten in oats is... -
ARCHIVED Purchase Playdough?
Terri-Anne replied to Terri-Anne's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Sarah Logan's pediatrician gave him a blood test for celiac, which came back negative. Dr. then non-chalantly stated he did not have celiac, but a mere allergy to wheat, and nothing more was ever mentioned of the issue. (until I asked for a referral to a nutritionist who specializes in Celiac disease and the celiac disease diet, which I got) ... -
ARCHIVED Purchase Playdough?
Terri-Anne replied to Terri-Anne's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Welda I am really quite sure that Jesse has food allergies (sensitivities) to something, but I really am not sure what. Because of Logie's wheat allergy, I suspect possibly wheat. Logan disliked bread, etc. that were obviously wheat, when he was little. He would pick all the peanut butter and jam off of the top of a slice of toast and... -
ARCHIVED Purchase Playdough?
Terri-Anne replied to Terri-Anne's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks again Jessica! Now I know there is such a thing in production out there, I just have to find a way to get my grubby little hands on some. "At this time, Discount School Supply does not ship orders to destinations outside of the 50 United States and its official territories (Guam, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, and APO, FPO and PPO Military... -
ARCHIVED Purchase Playdough?
Terri-Anne posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I've read recipes for home-made gluten-free play doughs, but with all the special gluten-free food prep I already have to do for my little fellow, I am wondering if there is an easy (lazy) way around being able to provide playdough to the daycare/school. I think since my husband mentioned that the wheat-flour playdough was inappropriate to put in son... -
ARCHIVED Need Gf Animal Crackers
Terri-Anne replied to Terri-Anne's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thank you so much!!!!!!!!! After reading your posts, and learning there IS actually a commercially produced gluten free animal cracker, I got on the phone to local health food stores and tracked one down right in our little city that carries some! Woooo-hooooo!!!! That was our big exciting news of the entire week!!!! I picked up the menu plan... -
ARCHIVED Need Some Hugs
Terri-Anne replied to SofiEmiMom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi SofiEmi'sMom My son goes to daycare, and while he is not Celiac, I can totally relate! The lady who does meal/snack prep at my son's daycare is an angel from heaven, I swear! Let me tell you the system we have worked out. Every week on Friday, she provides me with a menu plan for the entire next week. On it is listed the am snack, the lunch meal... -
ARCHIVED Need Gf Animal Crackers
Terri-Anne posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hey everyone, Does anyone know where I can purchase gluten-free animal crackers for my son? They are a pretty popular snack at daycare and served fairly regularly, like at least once a week. His daycare teacher said it breaks her heart when they are served because although Logan has an alternative gluten-free snack, and understands why he cannot eat what...
