  1. It is definitely empowering to at least know your on the right path towards health. With me two weeks on the candida treatment and diet and my neurological symptoms disappeared! I didn't even realize what a cloud I was living in for years until it was lifted. I've been trying to talk my best friend into going to see a naturopath because she has all the symptoms...
  2. Hi! I'm in New Orleans I haven't been diagnosed with Celiac but I am gluten intolerant and have some other food sensitivities. Its hard being gluten-free in such a culinary center especially where they put roux in EVERYTHING!!!! I've been gluten-free for almost two years now so I've normalized to it but I wish I had friends who ate this way. Sometimes I...
  3. OMG I've been lusting after a juicer!! That and a stand mixer to help me make gluten-free breads. I saw a show on Martha where they were talking about the health benefits of green juicing and I've been dying for one ever since! I hate that I even let them put these metal fillings in. My teeth are really bad (I think its from the candida because I'm very good...
  4. I know there is a stool test that they can do to test for candida overgrowth. I had it done with a naturopathic doctor so I'm not sure if a regular doc that insurance would cover would or wouldn't do the same test. That test was the cheapest out of all the ones I did so it might be worth it to pay for the initial visit with a naturopath and the test (I think...
  5. I love this website: Open Original Shared Link I cut and paste the stuff I want to do into a word document and then use it as a guide when I'm working out in the gym or at home. They have workouts for the machines at the gym, with freeweights and even with balance balls. Its great because they tell you which muscle group is being targeted with each exercise...
  6. I'm pretty sure I know what precipitated this both times. The first was when I got an awful case of sub-lingual tonsilitis in early high school . . . I took a ton of antibiotics and had an awful diet at the time and I remember all of my bad symptoms coming on right after that. . . it was almost like my whole personality changed suddenly too. I didn't realise...
  7. The ND I was seeing said that I probably do have leaky gut and he thought that is the origin of all of my food sensitivities. He said that the gluten and the yeast reactions were so strong that my body will probably always be sensitive even if I do get my gut all healed up. Even though I know the narcotics aren't a healthy thing to be on they have helped...
  8. Thank you!! I know that this is worth the effort. Two years ago I could barely use my hands from athritis. I was quite distressed because I am in medical school with the dream of becoming a surgeon! My rheumatologist wanted to put me on an immune suppressant that had lymphoma as a major side effect which is what my father died at 50 years old of. I was terrified...
  9. I've had 5 surgeries since last may and they left an open wound with a drain in it the last time. Hopefully they will be closing me up in march with one last surgery but until then I'm stuck on perscription narcotics. I cut the pills in half as much as possible but I have to take them every 4-6 hours. Its frustrating because I know that the pain meds are...
  10. I would look into doing a candida diet if I were you. With such a carb centric diet for so long it makes sense that candida might be the root of your problem with all the carb cravings (thats what the candida feed on so they make you crave carbs and then you become addicted to it). I know that when I was being treated for candida with a ND we talked about...
  11. When I was diagnosed we removed all my allergens from the house. My husband actually offered on his own. He still eats it when he is out or at work but its not in my kitchen. It means alot to have a safe space free of temptation and contamination. I don't have kids so I know that is a whole different ballgame but I think I will keep my house gluten-free even...
  12. I'm having one of my "woe is me" days feeling sorry for myself and craving the gluten free treats that I've been comforting myself with for the past two years. I'm really achy from the die off and have a headache. I've done good with my diet though . . . plain brown rice cereal for breakfast and ginger chicken with broccoli and carrots for lunch. I'd kill...
  13. It takes some creativity but you can have great food. You can adapt the gluten free recipes out there to be sugar free by replacing the sugar with stevia. There are stevia cookbooks out there to help you get how much stevia to put in for sugar (it is sweeter so you don't need as much). Its a pain in the tush not to be able to buy all the wonderful premade...
  14. When I travel I usually bring a stash of goodies with me in my suitcase. Its nearly impossible to eat in an airport and I want to have something with me just in case I end up in a desperate situation. I usually bring a bag of veggie booty, some gluten-free cookies, some fruit bars, some gluten-free snack bars, and some fruit. The hardest meal for me is always...
  15. There is a brand called Amys that has gluten free dairy free frozen meals that are great to have on hand when you just can't muster the energy to cook. They have a gluten free pizza (though it does have yeast for candida people ), gluten free mac and cheese, gluten free dairy free lasagna, they have a rice and veggie bowl and they just came out with a gluten...
  16. Thanks!! I read somewhere that sugar/vinegar free pickles were a natural probiotic so I've been eating those too (the brand is Bubbies) in addition to taking a probiotic supplement. I like the idea of using the probiotic as an antidote to my moment of weakness lol though hopefully there won't be too many of those in the future. Thanks for reading my...
  17. Hi everyone! I've been doing a candida cleanse diet for about a week now. I was diagnosed with multiple food sensitivities (gluten and yeast being the most severe and also eggs which make me sleepy) and a systemic candida infection in april of 2006 by a naturopathic doctor. I went on a diet and did about 6 months of treatment with good results. Since...
