I got a bread maker for Christmas two years ago. I only made two gluteny loaves of bread in it (I wasn't gluten-free yet). I was wondering if I should replace it or keep using it. I haven't made any gluten-free loaves in it and don't want to waste the mix if the machine is contaminated. There are no creases, folds, or scratches on the inside. I ran the insert...

What is the difference between tapioca starch and tapioca flour? Why do some recipes say tapioca starch/flour? Thanks for any info.

ARCHIVED Swirlz Cupcakes In Chicago - Incredible
Katester replied to sloant's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I'm going downtown tomorrow and definitely plan on stopping in. Thanks for posting!!! Any other great gluten-free places to eat in Chicago? -
I had a horrible glutening at PF Chang's. I got the Garlic Chicken and Broccoli. It was tasty but I felt horrible for almost a week. It was the worst I've ever felt after getting glutened. I was very surprised because I've heard such great things about it on here but I was less than impressed. I'm steering clear for quite a while.

I was looking on Amazon and saw many Barry Farm products for ridiculously cheap. I'm definitely interested. I was wondering if anyone has bought their products before. I just want to make sure the stuff isn't infested with bugs or anything. A one pound bag of flour for $1.99? Crazy. Is this a normal price? I've seen millet flour, sorghum flour, white rice...

Chipotle is awesome. I just had it for lunch actually. Us celiacs can have everything but the burrito and the soft tacos. Both use flour tortillas. You can get the crunchy tacos or a bol. I usually get the bol, it's awesome. You tell them everything you want and they do it. It's great. It's reasonably priced also. Love it. =)

I found some at Whole Foods. They were in the chilled freezer thing by all of the other tortillas.

Why does my name have a Warn 0% on it? I read about others having a percent and what to do but when I click on it it says that there are no saved notes. Anyone know how to get rid of it or what it is?

My doctor told me to start taking Benefiber to help with C (along with Miralax haha). The first ingredient on the package was wheat dextrose but right underneath the ingredients it said gluten free. It said it had only 10 ppm or something like that. Do celiacs still get sick if it's that little? I didn't get that one, I stuck with Metamucil. How can they...

I was just going to post about that!!! I paused and rewound many times to make sure it really was true. Happens to be the same ones in my freezer right now. =)

Katester replied to Blessings's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I GOT ONE OF THOSE TOO!!! It was probably the highlight since going gluten-free. I got so much food I didn't know where to put it! Who knew Lemonheads were gluten-free? Enjoy it!!! -
Does anyone know of any restaurants in the Los Angeles/Santa Monica area that are great with the gluten-free deal? There is a PF Chang's but I've been glutened from there and I'm worried about going there again. Or does anyone know of something to order that is almost always okay? I'm staying for over a week and want to enjoy my trip. I don't want to watch...

ARCHIVED Chronic Stomach Pain--while Gluten-free
Katester replied to healthynewman's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I had the exact same problem and still kind of do but it's getting better. My doctor figured out that my body was starving and wasn't getting enough food. My stomach isn't used to having the normal amount of food in it which means whenever I eat anything it has a hard time processing the food. If I eat more than usual, I feel horrible. I don't know if this... -
If anyone is coming to Chicago, there is a store called Gluten-Free Grocery. They have a program thing where they can ship any products you want to your location. You pick out the products you want and they ship all of the products to where you will be so they arrive when you do! It's a great program and they have the biggest gluten-free selection I've ever...

ARCHIVED Question About Cereal....
Katester replied to AustinsMom's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Fruity Pebbles and Cocoa Pebbles are okay. Rice chex. I called General Mills and they said Trix and Cocoa Puffs are gluten-free but to read the label ever time before purchasing in case the ingredients have changed. I haven't tried either of those yet but I'm looking forward to it. =) -

ARCHIVED General Mills
Katester posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I had read on here many times that Trix and Cocoa Puffs were gluten-free and then they weren't and then they were and all of that. I looked up the ingredients in each of those on their website and they didn't have gluten at all. I had heard also that they often change the products and the ingredients sometimes. So I called General Mills yesterday and the... -
ARCHIVED Multi-vitamins
Katester posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I went to the doctor and he suggested I take a multi-vitamin with calcium and vitamin D. I was wondering if gluten is often found in vitamins like that. If so, does anyone know of any brands that are gluten-free? Any info would be awesome. =) -
When all of this started for me, I couldn't make anything. I couldn't make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich to save my life. Now, I've learned so much and have learned to love it. I've learned that I can't trust anyone to make me food that if safe and not contaminated so I kind of figured I had to make my own. I know it's possible to not cook but I've learned...

Why can't I use rice flour instead of all-purpose flour? In making a normal recipe gluten-free, can I just use rice flour to replace all-purpose flour? I have a lot of brown rice flour and some white rice flour too. What is the difference between white rice flour and brown rice flour? And what is the difference between an all-purpose blend and just rice flour...

ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosed & Vegetarian
Katester replied to DLake's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My doctor suggested shakes like Ensure or Boost to help get all of the vitamins and minerals I need. They're gluten and lactose free. I think they're delicious and they've helped me a lot. -
I have a bread machine that I used like twice before I found out about the whole gluten thing. Now I've been interested in making my own bread in a bread machine. Is my old one totally CCed? Is it not usable for me anymore? I know it would probably be better to get a new one but I don't have the money for all of these new gadgets and things. Any info would...

Hey all, My family took my sister and I out to dinner at P.F. Chang's tonight for her graduation. I got things only off of the gluten-free menu and didn't share utensils with anyone. I ordered everything specifically gluten-free and they totally understood. Now all night I feel as I would if I got glutened. I'm totally confused... Does anyone have any...

Awww. I completely understand. I can't gain any weight either. I thought I had been doing so well and in the last two weeks I've lost 5 pounds! How does this happen? Now I'm 5'6" and 101 pounds. As for friends, my "best friend" never even remembers I have celiac. If I mention anything about it, she has no idea what I'm talking about. I know it's not...

I love cooking and Asian food is definitely my favorite, along with my family. I've been looking for new recipes and have found a ton that could easily be made gluten-free. I just came across one problem- hoisin sauce. Every store I have checked has many different brands of the stuff yet every single one had wheat. I guess soy sauce is a main ingredient and...
