    I think gloom, irritability & a general unease (and hmmm . .. .others not coming to me) are what I used/monitored to discover which vitamins, for the most part, were worth taking.     It'd be running tests & characterizations on memory chips. When I was an engineer, it's something I'd usually send a tech to do unless it req'd on-the-fly editing of the test program.
