Oh, that's ... just horrible! I'm glad you followed up with them!

We purchased a variety of pastas tonight at the grocery store. Picked up some corn, rice and Tinkyada, just to experiment... you all have gotten me so interested! There's one that I hadn't heard about yet and thought I'd ask. It's called bionaturae - 100% organic rice, potato & soy spaghetti. And it's made in Italy! - a product of Tuscany I must...

ARCHIVED How To Find Out If Your Gluten Intolerent?
GEF replied to lyndszai's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Not necessarily, but don't rule it out. The tests that your doctor would run to rule in/out celiac are for specific antibodies (example: IGG, IGA), which are different from those (IGE) in an allergy. This would require blood to be drawn in much the same way that you would have done for routine blood tests. Really what it all comes down to is how your body... -

ARCHIVED Am I Crazy? Non-compliance...
GEF replied to dustina's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The Ttg is pretty sensitive & specific, however for damage in a celiac, not necessarily for gluten intolerance. It is a difficult situation that you're in and I can understand why you feel so on the fence about it. I personally am not gluten-free yet because I have a wedding coming up and need I say more? But, I take the intolerance seriously and... -
ARCHIVED Question On How To Read Bloodwork.
GEF replied to Alexolua's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Peta, I know how important that is... that's wonderful. Was it the Iga that you tested in that was 190 or another test? There are many different blood tests that they use in the celiac profile. Some have less/more specificity & sensitivity than the others, but pretty much if you tested positive on any, it's an indication that your body is... -
I don't know if this applies to all Arby's but they recently changed their roast beef to 100% angus. Gretchen

ARCHIVED Breaded(gf), Fried Chicken!
GEF replied to Alexolua's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Hehehehe! I agree.. you have to have that oil hot and I'd turn it as seldom as possible. Gretchen -
I love that about this place too... that we can talk. The more afraid we are to talk about things, the more of a risk that we won't talk when we need to and possibly put ourselves in a harmful health situation. There's no harm in being real (with tact) Gretchen

ARCHIVED Hello Everyone
GEF replied to Racheleona's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Besides the abdominal issues, this is what sent me to the doctor. Even more than the health issues had been tasking me, it was the loss of satisfaction I was finding in my job. It's certainly not a good feeling when you're trying to give your all and it's just not happening due to the absent feeling. Of all the symptoms, this one of the least favorite... -
ARCHIVED Irish Heritage And Celiac's
GEF replied to Queen Serenity's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I also have some Irish ancestry. Also, Italian, German, Norweigan. Gretchen -
I have the olive oil kind and it clearly specifies that the grain alcohol is derived from corn. (assuming it's gluten-free) The other one with flour that I have indicates SOY & WHEAT. This is the one I wish was gluten-free.

ARCHIVED Breaded(gf), Fried Chicken!
GEF replied to Alexolua's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
One thing I love to do is dip the chicken in ranch dressing instead of egg (this is gluten-full recipe). Now, all I've got to do is find a gluten-free one, but it is soooo delicious! Gretchen -
Thank you!

ARCHIVED College Student Question
GEF replied to shlomo's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Welcome to the forum, Shlomo. In answer to your question... yes, beer contains gluten. Now if there are any non-gluten beers, I'm uncertain. Some here might know, though. Here's a previous post about the topic. Hope it helps! Open Original Shared Link And as you probably already know, it's best to call the manufacturer to make sure their gluten... -
*thinks it would be great if Pam (the oil spray manufacturer) would make a gluten-free flour spray* I also have a non-stick.. the only problem is it's a Nordic Ware and has at least 100 ridges in it.

Hee hehee! Jill, I'm glad to hear that you might know by tomorrow! Your parents must've put the pressure on Gretchen -
When a recipe calls for a baking pan to be "floured", what "flour" have you had the best results with? I enjoy baking with a bundt pan and you can't get around not "flouring". Thank you! Gretchen

I'd love to hear how it turns out. I read Connie's post on that mixture too and I'm eager to try it on my favorite (gluten) cake recipe. I'm sure I can find the flours nearby. Gretchen

ARCHIVED My Brother Has Celiacs, Too.
GEF replied to MySuicidalTurtle's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Not that anyone would want someone to be celiac, but it's good that he's found out so early. Even though you might eat different things... you might be of great support for each other throughout life. Gretchen -

ARCHIVED Lunch Spots In Richmond, Va?
GEF replied to pamelaD's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
I did call today and spoke with a woman at the GIG and she didn't know of a particular restaurant downtown/fan/vcu area that anyone had either a good/bad gluten-free experience with... however, she did mention that pretty much all of those restaurants have chefs and are usually very willing to accomodate dietary requirements. Sorry, I tried to save you... -

ARCHIVED Hello Everyone
GEF replied to Racheleona's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Racheleona, I'm so glad to hear that you have such a supportive doctor!! I might be the exception here in that I've never missed a cylce.... but, I have heard that that does occur in celiacs, along with fertility issues. Welcome to the forum Gretchen -
Mariann, Lucky me wakes up this morning with it. I'm going to start marking my calendar for when it happens so I can see if it's hormonally-related. Strange thing is.. that it only started happening this year (which makes sense, as my symptoms starting changing this year). All I can say is that I felt gross, so I loaded up on some sugar to see if that...
