ARCHIVED Autoimmune Disease And Stress Management
GEF replied to travelthomas's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I agree.. stress is hard enough on a healthy body. Remembering that we've got to be aware of what we allow ourselves to be subject to is important... that's a great reminder, Thomas. You can add me to the ranks of whose intolerance was triggered by stress. They say stress will kill you and I believe it! -
ARCHIVED All Help Needed
GEF replied to Leticia33's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hello Leticia and welcome to the forum! My goodness after reading your post, I just wanted to give you a hug. You've been through so much! Sometimes it really is comforting to know that you're not alone in all of this. If I could tell you anything, I heard that GasX is not gluten-free... so you might not want to try that. I'm not gluten-free yet..... -
Hi Lisa, welcome to the forum! Well, it certainly sounds like your son has a reaction to gluten taking place. You're doing the right thing by searching out answers. Have you been tested? Truly, I think that anyone who walks into a doctor's office with gastro-intestinal issues should be tested for celiac.... especially those with auto-immune pre-disposition...

ARCHIVED Seasoned Salt
GEF replied to GEF's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I thought MSG was not safe. So, that's great! -
Does anyone know of a good, gluten-free seasoned salt? Most of them have msg. That stuff is soooo good to sprinkle on french fries, rotisserie chicken.. yum! I think I'm hungry! Thanks! Gretchen

ARCHIVED Conflicting Bloodwork
GEF replied to licel's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes, that's true. Normally the Antigliadin (otherwise referred to as AGA) is usually normal < 20. If this were the case for you, then you're positive both times, yet only slightly on the 2nd... but, still positive. Now, there are two types of AGA... IGG & IGA. It might help you to find out which one. I don't know much about the Ttg levels..... -

I totally agree with you... this situation (however troubling) certainly raises awareness! -
ARCHIVED Igg Positive
GEF replied to dmbaird1230's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
An allergic reaction typically shows an IGE reaction, wheras intolerance.. the IGG & IGA. There are other's too, but I can't remember. -
ARCHIVED Undiagnosed W A Difficult Dr- Help!
GEF replied to beccathorn's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
It really is important that you have a doctor that is either knowledgable about celiac / gluten intolerance and/or is willing to learn. It's difficult to get a diagnosis even when you're not pregnant and not gluten-free... but, I'm not saying it's impossible. If you're not sure of a doctor to see, you can see if a local support group or a fellow celiac... -
So, I'm not the only one! I'm not gluten-free yet, and when it does happen, it's pretty bad where I've got to hold onto things.

ARCHIVED Igg Positive
GEF replied to dmbaird1230's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Denise, Probably not... but, you never know. The fact that you're on a gluten-free diet can alter your biospy and blood tests. Many here will tell you that your improvement on the gluten-free diet is enough proof that your body is intolerant and some doctors will accept that as diagnosis in itself. But, if you feel you need that diagnosis you might... -
I experience dizziness / vertigo every few months or so.. usually lasts for a few days, but I can't figure out from what. I'm not hypoglycemic, do not have low blood pressure or an ear infection. Does this happen to anyone else? Gretchen

I wish I knew... but, a local Gluten Intolerant / Celiac support group might!

ARCHIVED Dr. Appt Tomorrow!
GEF replied to GEF's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It is a shame that we have to educate our doctors, but I can understand that they're busy and treatment is more their speciality than prevention. Like I want an antidepressant for IBS!! I'm tired as it is!! I also read an article in the New York Post (that was in his office) about them using worms (in the intestines) as treatment for IBS. Apparently patients... -
ARCHIVED Biopsy Negative But Doctor Still Thinks It's There
GEF replied to tgcatmr's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
SparkyClare, I can understand your frustration about the tests. Did you know that you don't have to be full-blown celiac to suffer from gluten? Sometimes when a doctor is doing a biopsy, damaged areas are missed... so I certainly wouldn't rule out celiac based on a negative biopsy. Just because they couldn't find the damage, doesn't mean that it's not... -
ARCHIVED Biopsy Negative But Doctor Still Thinks It's There
GEF replied to tgcatmr's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
monicanina, My story is very similar to your's. I'm 28 and to tell you the truth, my symptoms have varied quite a lot over the years. What used to be diahrrea all the time, is now bloating and gas and the unpredictable GI upset. My digestive system is pretty slow too.. and I mean slow, but when I eat something my system doesn't like, it'll go right... -
Oh no... they shouldn't let you drive yourself. Normally they won't let you do the procedure unless someone drives you home... you might want to double check this with your doctor's office, though. Or were you just referring to the time to drive there, period? Usually by the time you're going to the hospital or office, the prep is pretty much completed...

If it makes you feel any better, I've had the endoscopy (the tube they insert down your throat), a sigmoidoscopy (a mini-colonoscopy) and a colonoscopy.... and none of them are that bad at all. Now, I'll fore-warn you, the preparation can be a little embarrassing, but it's not too bad. For the tests, they'll drug you up pretty good and you feel like "all...

I've never had much in terms of sleep problems.. I barely remember dreams, etc... but, I do have one problem.. I can never get enough sleep! At least 9 hours is what I need. It really is ridiculous at times as I feel I need naps during the day and I can literally have an emotional breakdown if I'm lacking on the rest. Gretchen

ARCHIVED Physiological Vs. Psychological
GEF replied to LindseyLC's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Lindsey, I think it's great that you're so supportive of your boyfriend and seeking answers and educating yourself. I means a lot to him, I'm sure of that. And it says a lot of you. Even those of us who have a problem, don't always at times understand what's going on... so it get's hard on our loved one's, I'm sure. You're welcome to post anytime... -
ARCHIVED Dr. Appt Tomorrow!
GEF replied to GEF's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Barbara, Perhaps this will help (see link below)... it's general information about the tests that a doctor runs with a celiac profile. It usually consist of about 5 tests. See if you can call your doctor and find out what test was negative. Even if you're not celiac, does not mean you're not gluten intolerant... of which needs the same treatment. ... -

ARCHIVED Dr. Appt Tomorrow!
GEF replied to GEF's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Back from the appointment! He read me all of my test results, which I had never had a doctor do before.... so that pretty neat. He told me I have Gilbert's syndrome (from the high ind bilirubin) and then regarding the celiac, since the most specific test is the tTg and that is negative that I probably don't have celiac. I asked him if he knew what the... -
ARCHIVED Has Anyone Heard Of This Test?
GEF posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I know it sounds horrible, but I read about this in the book, Dangerous Grains. It's called the rectal challenge (RGC). This is my understanding of the test: gluten is applied to an area of your colon (probably by way of a sigmoidoscopy), within a few hours or so, the doctor then removes the spot where he/she applied the gluten via biopsy and that specimen... -
ARCHIVED I Wonder About This Pain?
GEF replied to mysterypain's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Just wondering... did your doctor check your gallbladder? I've heard that pain in your shoulder area can happen when you have stones, debilitating abdominal pains accompany. Good luck in finding your answers.. hope you feel better soon! Gretchen
