  1. Good luck, Karen!! I hope you get some answers and support! Is this: Hyoscyam 0.125 mg, Levsin? Pretty neat since it can be disolved under your tongue... but, it's a sulfa drug... bad for me
  2. Thank you, Paul. I'll ask the doc to run for the gene and other food intolerances, just so I know. I really do think it's important to go through the "rule-out" stage, as there can be so many other disorders that can have similar symptoms to celiac. ... who's to say that the inflamation in UC & Crohn''s isn't due to gluten, anyway?? It's an obvious...
  3. Miss impatient me, moves my doctor's appointment up from 9/3 to tomorrow. This is the follow up to all the tests I've had and I'm so loaded with questions, I'm going to have to write them down. I haven't spoken with the doctor about the positive antibodies yet, so I'm just curious what he recommends.. if he even mentions going gluten-free. I'm planning...
  4. I'm in the pre-diet stage and thinking back at the onset of my symptoms, I can honestly say that there has been an "evolution" so-to-speak going on and even points where I was symptom-free (but not for long). First was the diahrrea... pretty much all the time.. .and fatigue... for which I thought was lactose intolerance. A few years later, "d" happened...

    ARCHIVED Chinese Food

Heather, I'm the same way.. Chinese is hard on me too! I'm not gluten-free (yet) and I'm usually laying on my stomach in pain when I eat it. I wonder if it's the MSG.... "Glutimate" Gretchen

  7. Kalo, Yes.. all the blood types have a pos/neg. I found the following list of blood types on howitworks.com U.S. Blood-type Distribution O+ 38 percent of population A+ 34 percent of population B+ 9 percent of population O- 7 percent of population A- 6 percent of population AB+ 3 percent of population B- 2 percent of...
  8. kathy, We discuss a lot of related issues at times.. you are certainly welcome here. The answer to whether lactose intolerance & gluten intolerance display similar symptoms... the answer is yes.... the reaction is just due to a different thing. Gluten intolerance is A LOT more serious than lactose intolerance though.. and he should see a doctor...
  9. Armarti2, My understanding is that the tTg is the most specific... especially to damage. If it would help, you could probably do a web-search on that test and you can pull up a ton of studies and articles. Your mother has it, which is a pretty good indication that you're geneticallly pre-disposed. Sometimes those blood tests are strange and the more...
  10. As you probably already know (or at least from my signature), my body is showing signs from gluten intolerance, yet I don't have full-blown celiac (at least yet). My fiance and I have a wedding coming in November and I still need to get some other GI conditions ruled out before I go gluten-free... but, I just had to share this because I know you all would...
  11. Hey celiac3270! I was just reading something regarding this subject in the book, Dangerous Grains... good book, by the way. The author mentioned the need for repeat testing, as celiac can develop at any time. My symptoms started about 5 years ago, at a time of great stress but, seriously that's when it happend for me and I'm now 28.... nothing was unusual...
  12. I purchased the book (Dangerous Grains) and have read about 1/2 of it already.... it's wonderful! I'd like to bring it to my next doctor's appointment.
  13. There appears to be many here that have the pre-celiac stage of gluten sensitivity and perhaps (like me), need to know the risks of non-treatment. Due to misdiagnosis or perhaps poor advice from their doctor, those who had even a slight positive in any of the blood tests were not counseled to go on a gluten-free diet ... did they develop full-blown celiac...
  14. Hello & welcome, Cstrong! Would it give you comfort to know that you're not alone in your plight? Through a lot of reading, I have come to the conclusion that positive blood tests in themselves are reason enough to at least attempt a total gluten-elimination diet. Your body is producing antibodies against gliadin it's not only your intestines that...
  15. Now, that makes sense!
  16. On my trip to Barnes & Noble today, I was thumbing through some books related to celiac. An author (whom I don't remember... sorry) mentioned that there was a higher level of occurance of celiacs with blood type O. I thought I'd test the theory, if you're willing. And what is my type??? O neg
  17. I'm going to get it today Thank you!
  18. ... and I'm assuming they expect you to throw the blood tests in the trash... Gretchen Open Original Shared Link A normal small bowel biopsy rules out celiac sprue, a true malabsorption state in which intestinal cells are visibly damaged, but it does not rule out gluten sensitivity. Although asymptomatic people with gluten sensitivity may have...
  19. Interesting article! Does anyone have the book: Dangerous Grains? Open Original Shared Link
  20. I thought I heard of one, but couldn't remember where it was. Thank you... I will definitely contact them! West End is pretty close by. ps... I'm waiting on going gluten-free until after some more tests and the wedding.
  21. Wow, it's great! Thank you, Richard! I'm in Richmond (Here's the Ukrop's link if anyone's interested) Open Original Shared Link It really is nice having a company that is so helpful with heath concerns.
  22. Hi Jill! Glad to hear that you got your results back so quickly! In the celiac arena... having negative results can be a good & a bad thing.... as I'm sure you know. In regards to education about gluten intol / celiac, could you imagine if they just replace those IBS ads with celiac ones?? I want a bumper sticker.... As always, it's a pleasure...
  23. I'm here in Virginia and we have a supermarket called Ukrops. I have noticed that they have an entire section on gluten-free products... entrees, flours, pastas, treats... it's just fabulous!! They are also less than a mile away!! Do supermarkets in your area have the same?
  24. Hello deb, I'm not diagnosed yet, but I thought I'd ask... has your doctor ruled out IBD (Inflamatory Bowel Disease)? There are so many things that can cause symptoms like you're having and it really is important to have them ruled out. I certainly wouldn't rule out celiac... there are a series of tests that should have been run and you should request...
  25. There must be 1/2 dozen or more tests that are needed to fully explore the intestinal tract.... anything from x-rays to scopes to cameras. Crohn's is usually in the small intestines and ulcerative colitis is in the large. To explore the small intestine where Crohn's usually is you'd probably need a small bowel x-ray (you drink some chalky substance called...
