From personal experience, I suggest you definitely try going gluten-free. I started having panic attacks as a child, developed agoraphobia in my teens, finally beat that through years of psychotherapy, but still struggled with anxiety. No medication has helped as much as going gluten-free. I didn't even realize how anxious I was until I gave up gluten. ...
  2. *** Those of you who think you may have Addison's *** PLEASE get checked out by an endocrinologist immediately. If you don't get this treated you could die from an Addisonian crisis which can come on from increased stress -- something as simple as the flu or an intestinal bug or a sprain -- or, for some people, seemingly for no reason. Diarrhea, weakness...
  3. I'm in Philly, too, new to this, and I'm curious to know about a support group, too. Thanks.
  4. This is so interesting. I've never been car sick, only sea sick and air sick (fairly mildly). But I have a horrible sense of direction, to the point that I used to get lost all the time in the building where I used to work (very embarrassing). I found that my sense of where I am in space improved after I found out I had ADD and started taking Ritalin...
  5. As someone with Addison's due to pituitary failure, I'd like to add my cautions as well. 20 mg hydrocortisone is the full replacement dose -- i.e., it's (approximately) the amount one's adrenals would normally produce. If your adrenals currently function and you take that amount, your pituitary will sense that you're getting enough cortisol, and shut your...
  6. No, it's only harmful to people who have an allergy or sensitivity. I didn't know I had one until after being gluten-free for a couple of weeks. I guess this is part of the phenomenon others have also noticed, of becoming more sensitive after going off gluten. I wonder what that's all about. Marly
  7. In a recent thread Kathy (ksymonds84) posted about having a bad reaction to lactaid. By coincidence, I had just tried lactaid for the first time, and had a bad reaction each time -- near-instantaneous vomiting the second time. I checked the ingredients and saw nothing indicating gluten. Wouldn't you know the answer is right here on the forum, in a thread...
  8. Your doctor talked to you about this, right? <<Anti-Thyroid Peroxidase - POS (NEG)>> Doesn't this mean you're auto-immune to thyroid (Hashimoto's disease)? That would be a reason you feel lousy. But I'm no doctor & I don't have the disorder so I don't know. Just wanted to make sure you noticed. Skylarker
  9. Thank you for posting this. I too have recently become gluten-free (about 2 weeks) and just had a similar reaction to a meal involving a generic lactaid. It's strange because the ingredients don't show anything that I recognize as gluten-ish.. Here they are: Microcrystalline cellulose, Polyalditol, Mannitol, Dicalcium phosphate, Crosprovidone, Magnesium...
