ARCHIVED Food Processed In A Facility That Process Wheat, Safe?
okgrace posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi, My gut is telling me not to buy products that say they are processed in a plant that produces wheat products, but am I being to picky. I have been looking for nutritional yeast in my area and have not found a brand that fits the bill. I thought I looked at Red Star in the health food store, but it said the above statment and I did not buy it. Is... -
Wow, I wish our naturopath was that cheap. I pay $100 per hour and her supplements are almost as expensive as RX. But she is worth every penny. She wants to know everything. Acne with pms is important to know ( I thought that was normal), your mood cycles, what your poop looks like. I have heard from other people that she tends to give lots more supplements...

ARCHIVED Noodle Crafts At Preschool.
okgrace replied to dandelionmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I think the suggestion about keeping your note on a preschool level is appropriate. My dd's preschool has been wonderful, but sometimes they still don't get it. I recently takled to them about taking sugar and dairy out of my dd's snacks, and cc. The teacher came back to me and said that all the children would be using the same pb that she can eat so there... -
ARCHIVED My Child Is Driving Me Crazy!
okgrace replied to kathyhay's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I know how difficult a fussy, clingy little one can be. May dd didn't sleep at all and nursed for 16 mo, but was biting me severly and didn't really want to drink for more than two minutes cause her belly hurt. We saw a naturopath when she was 7 mo and we have been seeing one again since she was 3 and it's really made all the differance for us. Naturopaths... -
Hi Aaron&Sam, My daughters is four and her symptoms when glutened tend to be a big bm very soon after eating. It can also be after eating sugar or someting with food coloring. She becomes super moody and generally miserable or she can become almost manic, laughing hysterically and moving at the speed of light. She was seriously glutened several weeks...

ARCHIVED Can You Eat At A Friend's House?
okgrace replied to okgrace's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
my daughter seems to be highly sensitive to any amount of gluten at this point. The hardest part is allowing relatives to take care of her when I am not around. I know they wouldn't intentionally gluten her, but this a complex diet and you really don't learn the ins and outs until you have been doing it for a while. I am still unsure about allowing... -
ARCHIVED Bipolar, Adhd, Sensory Integration?
okgrace replied to Momof3boys's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi Momof 3boy, My dh has stuggled recently with the potty training thing. She was totally trained until we went on the diet and she was accidenlty glutened and we have had big time accident since then, it was about 3-4 +weeks before things have just begun to straighten out. I am also an OT and all the things you describe sound common for what your... -
Hi aaron&sam, I am certainly not an expert as I am new to this myself, but my understanding about the blood test was that it could take quite sometime for the numbers to come down even on the diet. I know we have been doing this for a few months and the doc wanted to test my dh's numbers again and they had only come down about 10 points. Which means...

ARCHIVED Sick, Discouraged, And Needing Support!
okgrace posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi all, I know there are a couple other posts like this out there right now, but Celiac's is much tougher than I intially thought. My first reaction was oh well change her diet a bit, no prob. I have shifted into my child is not allowed out of my sight, not allowed to be in the presence of food other than her own, and is no longer safe anywhere. I... -
ARCHIVED Posts Are Oddly Delayed And Some Don't Show Up
okgrace replied to elmuyloco5's topic in Board/Forum Technical Help
My posts aren't posting. I have read the above message, so I know that a moderator must read them before they can be pinned to the new page. One of m posts was from the 28th, I thought it must have been a taboo question because it hasn't appeared yet. My other post was today, but several hours ago. Is there something about the way I am going about it that... -
ARCHIVED 2 1/2 Year Old - Upcoming Biopsy Questions
okgrace replied to texasmama's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Your daughter sounds very much like mine. I didn't sleep more than 15-20 minutes at a time for most of the night for about a year. Then we took her to the naturopath and got things straightened out for a bit. We took her off all grains and reintroduced food, plus she was taking a sleeping tincture. Things were ok for a bit but when she was about 2 she started... -
I am wondering what other people do when they are invited to dinner? My mother in law and many of our friends are willing to cook us Gluten Free meals when we come over to their homes. Is there enough residual gluten in their pans that it isn't worth eating? I know we changed our pans recently because of this issue but I am not sure how to deal with it...

ARCHIVED Food Dyes And Fake Sugars
okgrace replied to Lizz7711's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Does anyone use maplesyrup (real) or honey as a sweetener? I have heard this is easier to digest, but I don't remember where. I tried to post this question a week ago, but it never pinned. I must of done something wrong. I would be very interested in your answers. My dd has a suprisingly fast bm everytime she has sugar or even worse something with sugar... -

ARCHIVED So Frustrated!
okgrace replied to ptkds's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I can understand your frustration with the preschool/ daycare situation. I have had to cut way back on my hours as I am unable to find suitable childcare. I am an OT and I go into a Headstart once a week during lunch time to help a boy with self feeding. I know there is a child in there who has food that is for her only and I think they are good about... -
ARCHIVED Where Do I Go From Here?
okgrace replied to okgrace's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
We don't eat gluten at out house. My husband's father is a diagnosed celiac but doen't follow a gluten-free diet. My husband has had troubles as long as I have known him and the doc had recommended a gluten-free diet for him as well. I had a hard time getting him to follow a gluten-free lifestyle, but when Grace was diagnosed he agreed and we all eat that... -
ARCHIVED Help With Newly Adopted Baby?
okgrace replied to Alexander's Mom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I think I would look for a naturopath on the internet. Try googling naturopath and your state. I think a good one can be super helpful. Hopefully you will be able to find one near by. Good Luck! -
ARCHIVED Where Do I Go From Here?
okgrace posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi All, My family is still relatively new to the gluten free thing, since Dec/ Jan. My dd turned 4 at the end of Feb and has had issues with sleep all her life and in the last year or so behavior. As soon as she started solid foods we had troubles and we had to take her off food altogether and start again with veggies and didn't introduce grains until... -
ARCHIVED Help With Newly Adopted Baby?
okgrace replied to Alexander's Mom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
The heating pad and rocking sound wonderful! Very soothing and enjoyable enough to help some new milk (Almond or gluten free rice) become tolerable perhaps. It sounds like you have enough on your plate as it is, but I wanted to mention that naturopathic doctor has been very helpful to me and my child. She helped us figure out what foods were best when... -
ARCHIVED Help With Newly Adopted Baby?
okgrace replied to Alexander's Mom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My daughter was very thin at that age and her weight had dropped off the growth chart. Your lucky to have figured out so soon what the trouble is. She was able to tolerate veggies like beets and broccoli, she loved beets. Can your son eat meat? My daughter is four and she loves the Imagine brand Potato leek soup which is vegan and gluten free. I bet if... -
ARCHIVED 2 Weeks On Gluten Free Diet And No Improvement
okgrace replied to mommytoE&E's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I think it's pretty common that people crave the foods that they are allergic or sensitive to. I know that my daughter craves sugar, but when she has it look out. Her behavior is awful and she acts almost manic. She's gone as far as sneaking handfuls of sugar out of the cabinets she craves it so much. Another thought it perhaps your daughter has sensory... -
ARCHIVED Easter Dinner Questions?
okgrace replied to okgrace's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Maybe it's not called merinating. I am not much of a cook and have never cooked a ham, turkey, etc. that's what Hubby and mom's are for. Since my family has become gluten-free I have been working less and making a big effort to cook whole foods (rice, lentils, millet, etc. ). One of my goals is to cook a whole bird right off. Thanks for the info on... -
ARCHIVED Easter Dinner Questions?
okgrace posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi all, I've been poking around this wonderful website for a couple days and left a post about a potty training regression my four year old is going through under the doctor thread, but essentially I am really new to all this. I am the mother of a 4 year old girl who needs to be gluten free, a husband who is gluten-free also, and now I am begining to suspect... -
My daughter is very stong willed and very sensitive both physically and emotionally. I have wondered about the dairy but am reluctant to cut it out becuase of the restrictions in diet she already faces. When she first began the diet she didn't mind and she will still ask people if something is gluten free before she eats it. She has begun crying and telling...

Hi, My daughter just turned four and has been on a gluten free diet since January officially. We were gluten free for most of Dec. but thought a day off for a Christmas party or a piece of Birthday cake would be alright. I quickly discovered this is not how it works. After she had been gluten-free for a week and half any amount of gluten bothers her and...
