ARCHIVED Disappointed With Gi Visithorsesjapan posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms Well yesterday was just a big disappointment. I was assured that this dr was the best celiac dr in this part of Italy but he didnt' want to hear about any other symptoms other than GI symptoms and said based on the negative results for celiac of my bloodwork from the military dr (which had a negative Endomysium IgA and Gliadin IgA but no total Iga or tTg...

ARCHIVED Has Anyone Ever Experienced The Same Symptoms?horsesjapan replied to Charlie's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms I have read about kids whose "growing pains" never recurred after going gluten free. So I would say celica/gluten intolerance CAN cause bone pain. I'm almost convinced it can cause just about anything! If certain things don't resolve on a totally gluten free diet, then I'd pursue some other avenues for those symptoms. Nancy

ARCHIVED Gluten-free Baking Flour In Italy?horsesjapan posted a topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff Ciao! I am an American stationed overseas in Italy and I'm looking for gluten free flour to bake with for my ds. There is a farmacia not too far from our house that has a lot of gluten free items, but they all seem to have dairy or egg in them which he is also allergic to. Same thing with the gluten free section at the local Coop store. Any other suggestions...

ARCHIVED Would Gluten Intolerance/celiacs Show Up On A Skin Allergy Test?horsesjapan replied to Vanquish's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms Skin testing tests for IgE reactions, which involve histamine (think hay fever, itchy eyes, watery eyes, runny nose, anaphylaxis). Intolerances (which I think is a dumb name, it still involves an immune reaction so *I* call it an allergy) are usually IgG reactions which can only be tested for with a blood test. IgG reactions are often delayed by a couple...

ARCHIVED Please Help My Ddhorsesjapan replied to Tajsa's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms You say she is sensitive to milk, have you removed all dairy products from your diet? My ds would react to foods that I was eating. Your diet may be the cause for the gas she seems to experience. Problems we had with my ds were reflux, projectile vomiting, bloody stools, and eczema. He also was born average height and above average weight (10 lb 2.5 oz...

ARCHIVED New To Forum, Waiting For Results, Etc...horsesjapan replied to LoveLife's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms What you probably want to request is an ELISA or RAST blood test (I'm not sure of the difference) to check for IgG reactions to foods. They can test IgE via RAST (not sure about ELISA, we haven't dealt with that) as well, so you might have to specifically request IgG. You might want to start with the main allergens (wheat, soy, dairy, egg, peanuts, tree...

ARCHIVED Help! Need Alergy Free Recipeshorsesjapan replied to Katydid's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips My ds has those allergies too, I have used Bob's Red Mill products with some success. Right now we are stationed overseas so I am seriously limited in options. I use milled flax seed for egg replacer in many things (plus he gets some extra Omega 3's that way!) and I have used EnerG Egg replacer in the past with success (but don't have it here). I just...

ARCHIVED Now I'm Wondering About My Son's "eczema"horsesjapan replied to horsesjapan's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis Well, he was accidentally glutened/soyed last night. I grabbed a can of enchilada sauce to put on dinner last night, forgetting that I usually dump salsa over the enchiladas and thought AFTER he'd eated that I didn't check the label (not sure why it was in my pantry, unless I"ve had it there since pre-diagnosis lol). I'll keep a watchful eye on him and...

ARCHIVED Help! Another ? About My Blood Workhorsesjapan replied to horsesjapan's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms Thank you for your explanation. It makes sense, though I agree that it is strange to include it! They did do the Endomysium IgA test which was negative, but w/out a total IgA I don't know if that is valid. I finally got my referral put through from the doc, now I'm waiting to hear back from the GI with an appt. There are two hospitals I can go to here...

ARCHIVED Test Questionshorsesjapan replied to MJE's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms I keep reading that the blood tests are not totally reliable. You could order the genetics test from enterolab which would tell if you have the genes for celiac or gluten intolerance. If those are negative, then I'm not sure what to say, except that maybe there are more genes involved than they currently are aware of, or it's not a celiac/gluten intolerance...

ARCHIVED Help! Another ? About My Blood Workhorsesjapan posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms So I posted my test results before, but here they are again: Gliadine IgA 2, range is <7 Gliadine IgG 8, range is <7, RESULT IS HIGH Then, underneath, is this: Interpretations: REFERENCE RANGE: IgA: <3 mg/L IgG: <3 yrs: 30 mg/L >3 yrs: 18 mg/L What does that mean?????? Are those *my* ranges or are those "normal" ranges...

ARCHIVED Now I'm Wondering About My Son's "eczema"horsesjapan posted a topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis "Another thing you may want to do is to do a image search for DH photos. DH leaves a very distinctive purplish scar that usually doesn't fade real quick, well until gluten-free anyway. Perhaps if he sees pictures that look like his rash that will encourage him to either get a skin biopsy or just go gluten-free. While the skin will hold the deposits for a...

I would be leary of going on the recruiter's word. Their job is to recruit, and many have lied in order to meet their requirements. Not all recruiters are bad, but there are some that will say whatever it takes! I dont' know for sure, "just" being an Air Force dependant wife, but I doubt there are gluten free MREs. Some jobs don't allow for a regular...

ARCHIVED I Feel A Bit Like I'm In No-man's Landhorsesjapan replied to ShellyB's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms I am in limbo too. My tests came back inconclusive I guess. I was positive to the IgG anti-gliadin, but negative to the IgA anti-gliadin. Also negative to the anti-endomysial IgA. But (and it's a big BUT) they didn't test Total IgA or the Ttg IgA test. I am waiting on my referral (the doc didn't put it in like he was supposed to, so a week wasted, now...

ARCHIVED Not Producing Enough Gliadinhorsesjapan replied to chenal52000's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms I'm not sure what it means, we don't produce gliadin, gliadin is the portion of the gluten protein that our bodies react to with celiac disease. Knowing what tests were done specifically would help. Our bodies produce antibodies, so either the test was negative (no antibodies detected or within normal limits) or the overall antibody type (like IgA) production...

ARCHIVED What If My Doctor Said We Had Celiac With Only This Info...horsesjapan replied to katifer's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms What type of allergy tests were done? I was positive on the IgG to gliadin, but the IgE to wheat (not sure exactly what they check on that one, is it gluten, gliadin, something else? Dont' know!) was negative. Both were blood tests. My 7 yo ds was negative on all IgE blood RAST tests but tested + on the IgG tests for wheat, egg white, dairy, soy, and...

ARCHIVED Convincing My Dad To Get Testedhorsesjapan posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms I talked to my mom last night and mentioned that she really ought to get my dad, who doesn't care for dr's much, tested for Celiac. His younger brother has it, and my siblings and I have been suffering GI/food issues for a long time. And after talking to him last night, I found out his grandmother and great-grandmother both had stomach cancer and also maybe...

ARCHIVED Can Symptoms Come And Go?horsesjapan posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms I wasn't feeling well at all when I went to the doc (feeling the brain fog, having trouble speaking well, feeling lightheaded/almost dizzy at times, very loose stools, gas, bloating, etc). But since going to the doc (at the end of March) I'd say most of my stools are bordering on normal and I've only had really bad gas/bloating twice. I'm trying to keep...

ARCHIVED Help With Testing Methodshorsesjapan replied to scottyfeelsick's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms I'm kinda new to this forum, so I can't help much except to say that if you plan on going to a dr to get a blood test/biopsy, I wouldn't go gluten free yet. And I think celiac and thyroid issues can go hand in hand. Some have posted that they felt worse before they felt better when they went gluten free, like going through withdrawl symptoms. I don't...

ARCHIVED Test Resultshorsesjapan replied to horsesjapan's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms Thank for explaining. I will be sure to take a list with me, though I am not sure the tests are the same in Italy (I mean the names of the tests of course). The dr I am going to see is supposed to speak English, so hopefully we'll communicate well and the names of the tests are the same no matter where you live! Nancy

ARCHIVED Test Resultshorsesjapan posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms gliadine IgA was 2, range is <7 gliadine IgG was 8, range is <7 RESULT IS HIGH CAP RAST IgE for wheat was negative Endomysium IgA <1 (0-19.99) <----this is the one that I'm not sure what it is. I don't see anything for ttg which is frustrating, and no total IgA. I should have a referral to a gastro doc in a couple of weeks, my...

ARCHIVED I Can't Do This Anymore. Any Suggestions?horsesjapan replied to GhostLady's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms My MIL has rhumatoid arthritis, had a heart attack about 10 years ago, double bypass surgery, high blood pressure, osteoporosis, and is on oxygen (long story behind that, I think it is the hospital's fault). She seemed to feel a lot better when they were doing Atkins (which would be low wheat/gluten) and I wonder if her RA is related to gluten intolerance...

ARCHIVED I Can't Do This Anymore. Any Suggestions?horsesjapan replied to GhostLady's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms My ILs are the same in regard to the doctor. Especially when it is MILs conditions, but when it was ds's food allergies they didn't get that it isn't "just a little rash", but that it is his immune system that is wonky and we don't want to mess with it! He isn't diagnosed celiac, but he does have IgG responses to wheat, dairy, soy, malt, egg and based on...
