  1. I am so sorry you are going through this. Is there any way you can call the GI docs office and at least get a phone consult and see if they will order the labs before you are seen? Then maybe you would have those results in hand when you do have your appt. I'm not sure though how going off gluten might affect a biopsy should he want to do one. It would...
  2. My blood test results are in, but no one will tell me anything! They won't just give me a copy of the results, and when the nurse at the clinic called back, she said all she had were numbers, no reference ranges for "normal" results, and she said she really didn't know what all the "IgA" stuff was anyway, so she figured it was something unusual but can't...
  3. I agree, if your current doc is willing to educate herself about celiac disease and gluten intolerance then I'd keep seeing her if you like her! Also, is she willing to refer you to specialists who DO know more if you need one? Took me 6 years to get a referral to an allergist to get IgG testing done on my ds. The doc we were seeing was gracious enough...
  4. I am currently living in Italy (near Sacile, close to Aviano Air base). My son has a wheat allergy (IgG test, never did any sort of celiac testing, he's also reactive to dairy, soy, egg, malt, barley, and spelt) and I am in the process of testing myself. I know that the Coop grocery stores in the area often have a gluten free section, and the Aviano Inn...
  5. When I was on an elimination diet (breastfeeding my food allergic baby), the reading I was doing on line indicated that dairy (caseine) can stay in your system for 2-4 weeks. I have no scientific data handy, but based on that I'd give it at least a month and avoid all dairy (ie if the label says whey, assume it's not totally devoid of caseine). Good luck...
  6. I know, I just want to wait till all testing is done before I go gluten free (which I plan on doing regardless of test results). Nancy
  7. Hi Kay! I too am awaiting test results, though I just had the blood drawn today. I think it'll be a couple of weeks. Part of me wants a positive result just because then I will know what is going on (and I can tell the dr "nah nah I told you so"), but the other part of me would like it not to be celiac/gluten issues so I could continue to eat pasta and...
  8. How frustrating! Have you heard anything yet? Try and remind yourself you are fortunate to have a dr willing to order those tests! Please post results. Nancy
  9. That is amazing! I want to go see that dr. (I'm in Italy for three years though, so not likely to happen!) Nancy
  10. and got the "well, celiac is pretty rare, we should rule out some other things first" line. At least she listened and didn't totally blow it off. She's a PA, said she usually sees the cold/cough patients (don't know why they scheduled me with her other than she probably had the only open appts, hate the military care system) and that she would have to set...
  11. Thank you for the info! I will check out the links and do more googling. My oldest son (not the one diagnosed w/food allergy/intolerance) has a diagnosis of ADHD and I've wondered if dietary changes might help him. It's like he's addicted to certain foods (like mac n cheese) and can't get enough. I just can't control what he eats at school, the school...
  12. I'm new here and not diagnosed with celiac, but I have an uncle who was diagnosed a few years ago, and lots of digestive issues in my family (dad, brother, sister, myself). I have a son that is IgG reactive to wheat, dairy, soy, egg, and malt, and who also seems to react to spelt. He has not been tested for celiac and at this point has been gluten free...
