  1. I think you're right that if it's actually Celiac nothing but diet change will help because it's genetic. He shows all the symptoms of having Celiac but has not been diagnosed. He could just have lots of food intolerances. We took him off gluten and casein which helped a lot, but he still had trouble and we suspected corn so we removed that too. He is still...
  2. I took my two year old who I suspect has Celiac to a chiropractor today because a friend of mine said her son's milk allergies went away after being adjusted. The chiropractor said that a lot of times trauma during birth like having their head pulled excessively or smashed can cause the spinal cord to stretch and cause things in the nervous system to go out...
  3. My son is two and has some definite intolerances. Will a biopsy tell you specific things that bother him, or just whether or not there are damaged villi? I can tell for sure that gluten, casein, whey, and corn bother him. He has been to an allergist and they are not allergies. I'm fairly sure it's Celiac even though his blood test came up negative. I just...
  4. He can't have soy cheese, at least not the kind we have tried because it was all made with casein. He does fine with soy milk and soy flour. He eats veggies okay for snacks, but I need snacks I can take to church and leave there. He goes to nursery while I go to class and all the kids have things like cereal and fruit snacks (provided by the church). I bring...
  5. How sensitive are you? Can you have modified food starch derived from corn? Xanthan gum? Corn syrup? Confectioners sugar? Popsicles? Soda? I ask because I just discovered that my 2 year old with celiac can't have corn either. I'm having a really hard time finding snacks for him that don't have corn, milk, and gluten.
  6. I am pretty sure my two-year-old has it, even with a negative blood test. We opted not to have the biopsy done. It's too risky and it still gives iffy results at this age. I chose to try a gluten-free diet. Even if your child doesn't have Celiac, if the diet helps then the solution is the same no matter what. You can do the biopsy when your child gets older...
  7. My son just had a major reaction to Fruity Pebbles. The only ingredient that seems suspicious to me is polydextrose? What is it? Has anyone here seen a reaction to it?
  8. Is there an html code somewhere that I can use to create a button for Celiac.com to my blog?
  9. What foods are known to have hidden casein protein in them? Obviously any milk product. But I've read other things like tuna can have it too? What should I be watching out for? Is cross contamination a problem with casein like it is with gluten? Does anyone grow out of the problems with casein or is that as permanent as the gluten in celiacs? What else should...
  10. I know it's rare to catch celiac in infants, but I was wondering if anyone whose child has celiac had dark flecks in their breast-fed only baby. Maybe this is a rare situation because I do not have celiac, but my oldest son does and I'm wondering if my daughter has it. She is 4 months old. I avoided gluten my last month of pregnancy and until she was a month...
  11. My son will be 2 in November and has been gluten-free for about 6 months. His diaper rash went away after a few days, his bowel movements lessened after about two weeks, and they started looking normal about a month later.
  12. My son's looked like that, and still does on occasion if he gets "contaminated". I started measuring his belly every night just so I could be sure when it bloats. You may want to try that. I think it can go up and down depending on what they eat.
  13. My son was happy most of the time. His symptoms were mainly that he had trouble sleeping, he dropped in weight after starting solids like your child did, and he would get diaper rashes every so often that no ointment could heal. Later I associated those rashes with eating whole wheat. Also, if your child's bowel movements are excessive, or if they ever look...
  14. I've posted this before, but here again is my complete symptoms list for my son: [*] the father's sister has Celiac's Disease (undiscovered until she was 20 years old) [*] we read that a parent with an autoimmune disease is more likely to have a child with Celiac
  15. My first child was born a month early. The first few months after that (while nursing him) I regularly ate homemade bread with extra gluten in it. The bread was great. My theory, however, is that more than a trace amount of this gluten made it into my child's not-fully-developed intestines through my breast milk. The gluten made it far enough through his...
  16. A neighbor girl brought some over for my son because he can't have playdough with flour. He LOVED it, and it's edible if your child can have milk products. It's expensive too, but I've resigned myself to the fact that everything gluten free is expensive. Peanut Butter Play Dough 1 c creamy peanut butter 1 c light corn syrup 1 1/4 c powdered milk...
  17. There are too many differences in different studies to be able to base a decision off of them. I have seen ones that recommend introducing gluten between 4 and 6 months (although the current "trend" says that you should not even introduce solids until 6 months), 7 and 9 months, after 13 months, after 3 years. So go with your gut. I personally am not going...
  18. My son is 20 months old and has been gluten-free for 4 months, but we had to cut out ALL dairy. He has been dairy free for 2 months and now we are seeing some improvement.
  19. Has anyone had trouble with bananas? My husband suspects that my toddler has trouble with bananas in addition to Celiac. It can also cause damage because of an autoimmune response to protein. Here's a link with a more detailed description: Open Original Shared Link
  20. My son's blood test came up negative as well but it is obvious to me that he has problems with gluten. As others have said, the biopsy isn't really reliable. I am actually going to take my son to an allergist to test for other allergies to help rule out other problem foods. One thing I have suspected is a banana allergy or intolerance. It can also be caused...
  21. My son has a diary intolerance as well. He is 1 1/2 and it's pretty obvious if he's had dairy. Hopefully soon he will be able to eat it again because he really needs the fat in the whole milk. This is a critical growing time for him and I hate cutting it out.
  22. My 18 month old has been on a gluten free diet for about 7 weeks now. He still has had gluten on occasion by stealing a snack off the church nursery floor or some relative slipping him a cookie at a gathering without realizing he can't have them. He has also been off dairy for about a week. He still has the sticky, sandy bowel movements at least every few...
  23. I want to go through Enterolab to have my son diagnosed for celiac since the blood test and biopsy aren't very reliable for kids under 5 (he is 18 months). For anyone who has gone through Enterolab, did your insurance cover any of it? How was it reported to insurance? Was the doctor involved in any way or did you do it all on your own? Were you satisfied...
  24. I have just taken my toddler off of dairy foods because he was still having digestive troubles after removing gluten from his diet. How do I make up for the calcium he is not getting from milk? What foods are high in calcium? I have been giving him almond milk but I don't think it has enough in it, and he takes Usana's Usanimal vitamins but they don't have...
  25. In the forum for parents of kids with Celiac they were talking about this. There is lots of research about when to introduce gluten. Most says no earlier than 4 months and no later than 7, unless you wait until they are a year old. Also, if you breastfeed for the first year their chances of developing the disease are much less. My plan is to wait until my...
