  1. The Montina Flour I bought was already mixed with other gluten free flours, and it was close to $5.00 for a small bag, enough flour to make one loaf of bread and maybe something smaller. I haven't tried it in anything else yet, but it may be good for cooking meats also. I just bought some Manna from Anna, I will be baking that next week. I've heard...
  2. I haven't had too much luck yet with relatives, my aunt made a chicken casserole and said I could just "pcik around the pasta!" Oh Well, it made me laugh. I ate the salad and other items I could eat. It is so easy to just stay home and cook what I want, I've made some really good casserole items this past week. I used gluten free pasta, dairy free cheese...
  3. Last evening I made a loaf of bread with the Montina Flour Mix and it tastes very close to real bread, it is soft and tasty, not heavy and thick like the rice breads that I buy. It is worth a try!! Bernadette

    ARCHIVED The Good Life

We don't have to take any yucky medicine where the side effects are worse than the original problem. Also, we eat healthier and it gives us a reason to come together and discuss our lives! Bernadette

  6. I also am finally taking responsibility for my health. Over 8 years ago, a friend suggested that I stop eating wheat, I was sick for about 5 years, horrible pains, diarrhea and the whole nine yards, I couldn't travel, my anxiety and panic was horrible during this time. I gave up the big stuff, I stopped eating bread, carmel rolls, pizza crust and the things...
  7. Good MOrning, I have been wheat free/gluten free for about a month now. Is it normal to lose weight? I've lost close to 8-10 pounds which I guess I don't mind, but I am not really trying. I have not been eating well lately, trying to get everything figured out, but just was wondering if others lost weight when they first started the diet? Bernadette
  8. I started canning some of my own food items, such as stewed tomatoes, soups, fruit and different things. The initial cost of the canning utensils (pressure cooker, jars etc) is about $75.00-$100.00, but in the end I think it will save me money. I can reuse the canning jars forever and I KNOW WHAT IS IN THERE! This weekend I am going to mka pickle religh...
  9. It is fair time here and the only thing I can eat is a shrimp dish that has Kikomann soy sauce. Should I or shouldn't I. I do not have access to a store at this time to look so I am hoping someone knows about this. I'm headed out there in about 5 hours.
  10. I never thought of my lipstick as having gluten in it! Or anything else that I put on my body, I guess I thought gluten was only in food! So, those of you out there, that wear makeups and lotions, which brands are Gluten free? I read so many of the messages of people that have been gluten-free for months but still have symptoms (me included) and I wonder...
  11. I purchased Saffola unsalted margarine. I will list the ingredients and I think it is alright? Partially hydrogenated soybean oil, high oleic safflower oil, canacian canola oil, water, soy lecithan, vegetable mono and diglycerides, potassium sorbate, vitamin E, citric acid, artificial flavor, beta carotene, vitamin a palmitate added. What you you think...
  12. Are there companies that make small packages of gluten free dressings and other condiments? Those would be nice to have to take with to restaurants. Last night I ate out, and something was wrong, all bloated and gassy today. Do you know of anything like that out there? BamBam
  13. I have read a lot on this message board about people with diarrhea, whether it is because of gluten intolerance or not. In the past, I have read a lot on the Web MD website about "Irritable Bowel Syndrome. I've read there many messages on how much calcium can help with diarrhea. First of all, calcium can be very constipating, so you have to be very careful...
  14. Hello, I am new to the boards and fairly new to learning about gluten intolerance. After 15 years of tests and finding nothing that is causing my diarrhea/constipation/abdominal pain etc, a friend of mine suggested that I may be gluten intolerant awhile back. It is fairly easy to give up the big stuff, bread, rolls, crackers, donuts etc. Where I am having...
