  1. I had a lot of bloating while eating gluten-free rice and quinoa. My nutritionist had recommended these as good grains for me to eat. It wasn't until I was playing round with my diet that I realized the rice and quinoa were causing all of my bloating, even thought I was on a gluten-free diet. I can tolerate only about 1/2 cup (dry measurement) of...
  2. Finally!!! I've struggled with my weight since being dx with Celiac 15 years ago. I've worked with nutritionists and doctors and had pretty much given up on losing the excess weight I had gained over the past 15 years (approx. 45 lbs.) I'm happy to say that I'm finally losing weight. Slow and steady (2 lbs. per week) and it just keeps coming off...
  3. I am definitely having issues with gluten and my Allergist wants to do some blood work. My Dr. admits that he is not an expert with Celiac / gluten issues. My question: What type of blood work should I have done that relates to gluten intolerance and Celiac ? I would like to have my "ducks in a row" so to speak, before I spend the time and...
  4. I read an article that says that DH is more likely to occur on the skin in areas where there is pressure, like from clothing. Anyone have thoughts on this? I seem to get more DH flareups on my back and my waist where my clothes (bra, pants) put pressure on my skin. I have noticed a lot more outbreaks on my back since I started wearing a tight sports bra...
  5. I get left side pain, just under my rib cage. It happens within 30 minutes of eating gluten. Sometimes it is gone in a few hours, other times it stays for days or weeks. Before going gluten free, I had that pain for 9 months straight - ugh! In the past, I found that the pain would even travel across the middle of my stomach (along a line that is just...
  6. I too have had gum recession. This started to happen when I was at the worst point with my gluten issues. My dentist really didn't have any explanation for it at the time. I have also had many problems with sores in my mouth and tooth sensitivity. All of this didn't start to clear up until I went gluten-free. The only thing that still bothers me is...
  7. Congrats on the blood pressure going up! I can truly relate to your experience. Before taking gluten out of my diet, my BP hovered around 90/54! Most nurses thought their equipment wasn't working right and would just keep taking it unitl they gave up. Now, I'm happy to report, that my BP hovers around 118/80. I don't have the dizzy spells anymore...
  8. Hi there, Just wanted to share that I was diagnosed with asthma and allergies for the first time in my mid 20s. I had no problems at all as a child but started wheezing a lot in college. Not sure on the rest of your questions, but I hope this helps. Chris
  9. Just a thought... I recently found some hummus made with black beans instead of chick peas. It was great! It had a lot of cilantro, garlic and lime juice. I thought it was a great alternative to chickpeas and was full of fiber (yes, my nutritionist has me upping the fiber!) I found it pre-made at a local organic market called Roots. I'm sure you...
  10. Here's a tip from my nutritionist: She has me adding ground flax seed to a lot of foods I eat. It is full of fiber and helps me feel full longer. I have to say that it's been helping me so far. I have found that I feel more satisfied after a meal with added flax then a meal without it. Hope this helps!
  11. You are not alone... I guess I'm a weirdo too! Last year, I had major surgery and then mono. Both of these things caused my gluten intolerance to go crazy. I started craving (and eating!) all things with gluten. Since I couldn't exercise for 5 months due to the surgery and mono, I gained 20 lbs. After 8 months of trying to figure out what the...
  12. Hi and welcome! I, too, suffer from panic/anxiety attacks. Mine started when I had vertigo due to fluid rentention from hormones I was taking (long story.) I would feel dizzy/spin/flip then "panic" that I was going to faint. I finally got help from a Dr. in terms of medicine and I feel amazingly better. After time, he challenged me to let the...
  13. I, too, had severe joint pain. Just thought I was getting old. LOL. But... after doing my research on this site, I decided to stop eating nightshades. I saw amazing results - all of my joint pain disapeared. Hope you have the same positive results that I have had. Turkeybird
  14. Thanks for your speedy reply! That was the info I was looking for. Thanks goodness too, as I had already eaten the popcorn and then realized the whole grain label. No I won't wory about being sick the rest of today and most of tomorrow. Thanks again. turkeybird
  15. Hi all, I am currently eating gluten-free, nightshade free and don't eat some lectins. I usually can eat popcorn without a problem but... I was reading the label on a box of popcorn and it said "made with whole grain popcorn." What the heck? Never saw this before on a label. My question is this: what is whole grain popcorn? If I'm avoiding...
