Just wanted to tell you about a good experience we had the other night at Mt. Fuji, Hasbrouck Heights, NJ. My daughter, (she's the one with celiac) liked this place a lot before diagnosis, so I wanted to try and take her now. I called restaurant in the afternoon and asked if I could bring our own soy sauce. They said yes, so we went. It was a Sun. evening...

I'm not sure about the fries - check with the Nathan's you want to go to about how they fry them, but the hotdogs have wheat in them, sorry. I think they're the only hot dogs around that do have wheat.

Jen - thanks for the info, it's a big help. Now I have to see if I can convince my daughter to go. -
Has anyone heard of a 'gluten free' day at Hershey Park in July? I saw it mentioned on a celiac website, but there was no more information. Would love to take my daughter if it's true.

lauriel234 replied to KaitiUSA's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
My son likes the Wellshire chicken nuggets. We buy them in Whole Foods in Montclair, NJ and also The Happy Carrot in River Edge, NJ (a health food store, which also carries lots of gluten free products). Who sells the Ian's brand? Haven't seem them yet. -

ARCHIVED Gluten Free Cereal

If anyone lives near Pathmark, you should check out their Corn Nuggets cereal (like corn pops). I believe they are gluten free. Got them for my daughter, but so far she won't try them. Maybe Pathmark has more cereal that is good, but didn't have a chance to look yet. -
ARCHIVED Chinese Noodles

Thanks for your input. I was looking for the 'crunchy' type of noodles, not the 'pasta' type. Will keep looking. -
ARCHIVED Chinese Noodles

Has anyone ever found Chinese noodles, like the ones they give you in Chinese restaurants before dinner? Also, looking for crackers that are the closest to Ritz. Thanks for the info. -
ARCHIVED How Do You Stay Gf In College?
lauriel234 replied to wildkitty's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
My daughter is starting to think about colleges too. I'm interested to hear where Minibabe and Mysuicidalturtle go to school. Please let me know if possible. I think after she makes her list of possible schools, we'll have to call each one and discuss the celiac situation with them. -
Does anyone know if Taco Bell has a gluten free menu? Or Baja Fresh? Haven't been able to get this info. I've seen the postings about Red Lobster - my daughter has eaten at a few different ones with no problems. She orders the salad - and though it's an appetizer, it's big enough for dinner - the nacho platter. She orders plain nachos, nothing on them and...

Thanks for the information. You're lucky that they're so helpful. -
Does anyone know of any colleges in the Northeast (NJ, NY, PA, DE, MA especially) that have some type of gluten free food service? My daughter is going to start looking at schools next year and I would like her to live away to get the college experience.

Does anyone know of any gluten free makeup? I've been having trouble finding info on this.

We're invited out for Thanksgiving - this will be our first year since my daughter was diagnosed. If the bird is stuffed, will this effect the bird itself when it is carved (obviously not touching any of the stuffing)? She only eats the white meat.

ARCHIVED Stomach Pain
lauriel234 posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
My daughter, 15, had a celiac reaction to something (we're really not sure to what, she's been so careful) two days ago. This is the first one in a long time, so we're lucky, but... her stomach always seems to hurt her for 1-2 days after she gets sick (throws up). Does anyone know why it hurts, or anything that works to settle it down faster (her doctor doesn... -
We baked 'Toll House Chocolate Chip Cookies' last night with Mr. Ritt's flour mixture(gluten free bakery in Pennsylvania). Just used the regular recipe on back of the chocolate chip bag. They came out great, best gluten-free cookies we've baked ourselves or bought so far.

ARCHIVED Bread Crumbs?
lauriel234 replied to MaryanneQ's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
We've tried a couple of types - have liked EnerG brand the best. Have made chicken cutlets with them, couldn't tell the difference between them and regular bread crumbs. Also, I've put them in meat loaf/balls and they both came out fine. -
Does anyone know of any gluten free restaurants and/or places that have gluten free items in Pennsylvania - especially the Philadelphia area and Poconos area. Thanks as always for the info.

My daughter, 15, was diagnosed with celiac last year. She also suffers from chronic tension headaches. Since starting the diet, the headaches were better, but recently they seem to have come back again. The only thing I can think of that we've been doing different is that she's been having an orange every day for breakfast. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions...

ARCHIVED Vh Soy Sauce
lauriel234 replied to tagger's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Kejohe - Kathleen Question - Is caramel color gluten-free? I've tried the San J soy sauce, but my daughter thinks it's too strong. LaChoy might be better, but I didn't know it was gluten-free. Have you found any gluten-free chinese style noodles. She used to love Chinese food. -
My family is planning a trip to Ohio this summer. This will be the first vacation since my daughter, 15, has been diagnosed as celiac. Also my son, 10, had been having stomach problems and was given a blood test, but came back negative. While we were waiting for the results and doctor's appt., I had him on a gluten free diet. The problems disappeared. When...

ARCHIVED New Celiac Patient...14 Months With Questions
lauriel234 replied to wendyspi's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
WENDYSPI - My son likes the tapioca bread made by Ener-g. This company makes many different types of bread, rolls, bread crumbs, cookies, pretzels, etc. They have a web site and you can do a mail order with them. The bread isn't too bad if you toast it a little. My son also likes it made as french toast.
