  1. Oh boy, you are going down the same path as I did. I've also tried various pills, then Depo-Provera, and finally I ended up with Ortho-Evra patch. The reasons I gave up pills: 1. I was never sure when my digestive system will decide that it's time to have diarreha out of the sudden, and I didn't want to take the risk the pill could not be absorbed. 2....
  2. I don't know about any link between celiac disease and mosquito bites, but I know that any skin reaction (such as allergic rash) gets worse (redder, more swollen, more itchy) when it is kept warm. It is possible that sleeping for several hours under warm cover made your bites worse. I had a severe rash on my body once, and it literally made me unable to sleep...
  3. There is a list of safe alcohols on this site. Try to check https://www.celiac.com/st_prod.html?p_prodi...-05102604299.58
  4. Forty320, I am not a vegetarian and being Celiac since I was born, I have little experience with normal gluten flours, so I don't know what the "gluten" you described could taste. Still, your description of the dish made me think of Japanese food called "mochi" - if I got your description right they could (?) have the same texture (???) Actually, mochi...
  5. Thank you. No, I'm sorry, I don't have any children, so I wouldn't even dream of giving tips on how to raise children and such, but I do have some experience being a Celiac kid myself (a long, long time ago ) Whenever I use this board, I just click on "View new posts", go through the most recent posts and sometimes add a reply if I feel I have something...
  6. I agree with all that was said above. And I have a good reason, because I am a walking example of what happens if parents think that cheating ocassionally won't hurt and teach this way of thinking to their kids. I was diagnosed after I was born with gluten and lactose intolerance and was on diet ever since (I'm 28 now). Well, to say that I was on diet...
  7. I'm glad you liked the recipe. I hope you will like the dish itself, too We serve it as a main dinner dish (all versions). For the non-sweet versions, you can make some vegetable salad as a side-dish and you will have a gluten-free (and also vegetarian) meal. The sweet ones can be also treated as a snack, I guess. My grandmother used to make it for...
  8. Hi everyone, Today I noticed the post about recipes for pierogi, which reminded me of another traditional Polish dish which also tastes very good and is much easier to make. This is often my choice when I'm abroad and I'm asked to prepare something Polish - ingredients are very easy to buy and you can make versions that people with different tastes can...
  9. I forgot one version - pierogis with meat. I don't have the recipe, but I suppose to make this filling you should mix minced meat with a bit of fried onion and spices. BTW, the name "pierogis" that I am using here is actually incorrect. It should be "pierogi", as it is already a plural form ("1 pierog" but "2 pierogi, 3 pierogi", etc). Just in case...
  10. Hi everybody, I am Polish, and I agree that pierogi are good! Unfortunately, I won't help you much with the dough, because I am celiac since I was born, so I have no experience making the "normal" pierogi. I have never made the gluten-free ones, either, until yesterday night. I think I'm not a bad cook, but I watched my mother try different ways...
  11. I'm no specialist, but if my understanding of digesting process is correct, than I think that a non-celiac person would not have gluten as such in their blood. Gluten is a protein, so during normal digestive process it would be cut into aminoacids, which would be then carried by blood (that is what they taught me at school ). I don't think aminoacids can...
  12. Hah, I was right! I'm new to this forum too, and my guess of DH (after reading some posts, from the context) was "Dear Husband", but I still suspected it may have some more complicated, advanced-users-only, medical meaning. I didn't check it up in a dictionary just because I was too lazy
  13. In my understanding (based on what I ocassionally read in magazines, so I'm no expert) co dependency means a situation when a person is addicted to something that is ruining their lifes (I heard about it in context of alcohol or drugs) and can't/won't do anything about it, while this person's spouse/partner/family are doing everything to support or excuse...
  14. Thanks for all the replies! It was very interesting to read them all. Jill, my first long post also was all about things that I have been bottling up inside me for most of my life, so I understand you It
  15. Yes, I think over sympathizing can be just as bad as lack of any sympathy. I guess overdoing it either way is not good I don't know about others, but as for me, I'd like people to be understanding about my problem, meaning that after possible initial explanations of the illness they will take a note of it and try to consider a bit before planning to...
  16. Hi, I suppose it's too late for you to use this info during your travel to Poland (did you manage OK?) But just in case you need it for the future, I will post you a few links. Unfortunately, they are in Polish only, but I suppose your in-laws can have a look and find necessary information. Open Original Shared Link A page that contains celiac...
  17. Hi, I'm also new here and I'm so glad I found this site! I guess one day I will have to thank the guy who has made this stupid comment about my diet, which gave me a bad day and for the first time in my life has made me search for gluten-related sites. I'm 28, gluten-free and lactose-free since I was born, and up till now I was sure I am leading a...
  18. Hi sizuku, I know how hard it must be for you to be celiac in Japan. I have spent 1.5 years in Japan and it was a challenge for me. 100% of people I met have never heard of this problem, and eating out was a real problem since all Japanese brands of soy sauce have wheat flour listed in ingredients... Also, as far as I researched on the Internet, there...
