  1. Green Eyes, I'd probably do the genetic test so that I could either forget about it or monitor him carefully, depending on the results. I know that my daughter felt great relief when she learned she didn't carry the gene. My other son is very fearful of needles and I will hold off until he needs other bloodwork done this fall. Then he will be tested, too...
  2. I was also shocked by my diagnosis, having only anemia as a symptom and not having celiac in my family. I have been off gluten for 6 weeks and have now had two accidental glutenings. I'm not sure what caused the first one, but I do know what caused the second (I ordered take-out from a Thai restaurant at which I had had many successful lunches...I guess...
  3. This is a very interesting topic for me. I am wrestling with the same dilemma. I have celiac and one of my three kids just had a biopsy done this week so we are waiting to see the results. So far, with it just being me, I am making all the dinners gluten-free but my kitchen is still full of gluten. I think I may take the entire kitchen gluten-free if...
  4. I have found everyone's contributions to this topic to be very helpful. Thank you for sharing your personal experiences. I am figuring out how I react as I go along. Now that I have had (I think) my first reaction to gluten, I am feeling very gun shy about any ingredient I can't identify. I'm sure I will gain confidence as I go on from here. It's nice...
  5. I had the weirdest experience yesterday. I have never had a reaction to gluten but was diagnosed celiac by biopsy, so I have been gluten free for about a month. Yesterday, I ate a gluten-free breakfast and a gluten-free lunch (both in the safety of my home and my husband ate the same food and was fine...he's not celiac), then made gluten-free cookies for...
  6. Hi, Cami J, I'm pretty new at this but I was wondering...did you have the bloodwork done that shows if you carry the genes for celiac? My biopsy was clearly celiac so we began testing my kids. My daughter has low IGA (someone mentioned that earlier) which rendered the normal celiac panel ineffective for her. But the pediatrician had the foresight to...
  7. I also had anemia and a doctor who pushed me to have the endoscopy and colonoscopy because he feared I was bleeding somewhere. He told me as soon as I woke up that he suspected celiac and the biopsy confirmed it. I was completely surprised as I had no other symptoms and no one on my side of the family has ever been diagnosed with celiac (so far). But my...
