ARCHIVED I'm Some Sort Of Anomaly!
givenupgluten replied to givenupgluten's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Thanks everybody! I appreciate all the advice and help! I'm definitely going to have some blood tests run and get that taken care of - I'll let you know what I find out. I"m also starting an exercise routine...starting out slow at first, and slowly building up. So hopefully that helps as well. -
ARCHIVED Serious Anxiety....which Seems To Affect Everything!
givenupgluten replied to givenupgluten's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Everyone's responses have been SO helpful - thanks to all! Luckily, I have been doing better. I've cut all the caffeine out of my diet - Before the only thing I was drinking that contained caffeine was green tea in the mornings. I didn't see it as a problem, b/c it's supposed to be good for you..right?! I started noticing that it contributed to some of my... -
ARCHIVED I'm Some Sort Of Anomaly!
givenupgluten replied to givenupgluten's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hi there! No, I have not had my thyroid checked OR my iodine levels/Vit D- Would I go to my general practitioner to have these checked? Or would I need to go to a specialist? (Sorry, I don't know much about these two tests) I do think I'm eating enough calories, because I love me some olive oil, avocados and other healthy fats Haha...But seriously,... -
Ok, I'm naturally a tad curvacious..but not too much so. But since I've gone gluten free I've put on the pounds. I'm also vegan, which makes me feel particularly weird about being a bit overweight. I feel like I should be miniscule considering how many things I no longer eat...but that's just not the case. I'd like to think it's because I've learned how to...

Thanks to everyone who posted..It's been so interesting to read the replies and see parts of myself in all of them! I'm awaiting (anxiously..of course Haha) my dr. appt in March. I'm going to bring up many of the things posted here and hope to get to the bottom of this. In the meantime I picked up the anxiet and phobia workbook that was mentioned in a previous... -
ARCHIVED Serious Anxiety....which Seems To Affect Everything!
givenupgluten replied to givenupgluten's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hi there... I do take a b vitamin supplement with all the recommended values of B vitamins, but my mom has had some really good luck with a sublingual b vit..and I wonder if that would be better? Other than that, I eat pretty 'cleanly' and healthy. I'm vegan...so I avoid dairy and such. I don't use alot of soy products either, although I have the occasional... -
ARCHIVED Serious Anxiety....which Seems To Affect Everything!
givenupgluten replied to givenupgluten's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Also, just to be clear (and to make this post even longer....sorry!) I just wanted to say that my celiac specialist felt that these symptoms were an IBS component of celiac. (when I saw him back in early fall) He said he sometimes sees these issues paired with celiac..and he wanted to put me on some medication for it in the beginning. I explained that I had... -
ARCHIVED Serious Anxiety....which Seems To Affect Everything!
givenupgluten posted a topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I think I may have posted something similar in the past...but the situation isn't getting better, so I thought I'd fish for some ideas! I was not technically diagnosed with celiac, but have gone through the genetic testing and have one of the 'celiac' genes. I have had chronic stomach issues since I was small - i'm almost thirty now..and my mother has... -
ARCHIVED Good Gluten Free Cruise Experiences?
givenupgluten replied to givenupgluten's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Thank for the help everyone! My mom had mentioned Disney cruise lines, and I hear they have great service and as everyone said 'are good with the gluten free thing', which is wonderful! Do they have different types of cruises..my mom and I are looking for a very relaxing experience, and I wonder if we will feel out of place if there are lots of families and... -

givenupgluten posted a topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
My mom and I want to take a cruise (we have never taken one before) and we are both celiacs - Has anyone had a really great vaca on any of the cruise lines while being gluten free? Thanks in advance for any recommendations! -
ARCHIVED I Want To Become A Gluten Free/veg Chef!
givenupgluten replied to givenupgluten's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I actually answered my own question after researching a bit....There is a culinary school here in NYC called 'The Natural Gourmet" cooking school...they focus mostly on vegetarian cuisine...and I emailed them and asked how this whole 'gluten free veg' cooking thing would work out (haha)...They said that they have had celiacs come through the school and that... -
ARCHIVED I Want To Become A Gluten Free/veg Chef!
givenupgluten posted a topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I LOVe to cook...and have grown more fond of cooking since becoming vegetarian...and especially since finding out that I need to be gluten free. I've learned so much and found a new zest for being in the kitchen and trying new things. I would love to go to culinary school, but haven't found one that would allow me to go through training without using meat... -
ARCHIVED What Flour Should I Use?
givenupgluten posted a topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I would really like to make this delish recipe for caramel apple cupcakes that i have, HOWEVER, it's not gluten free Is there a flour I can use (or a blend of flours) to create a similarly textured cupcake, without too much hassle? Something in place of the regular old white flour it calls for? I do have a bob's red mill gluten free flour for baking...would... -

I noticed your post, and wish I had some ideas to offer you! I too am looking at having my honeymoon in Napa Valley, but wasn't sure how convenient finding gluten free food would be. Hopefully someone will have some answers If I find anything out, I'll keep you posted! -

ARCHIVED Stopping My Vegan Diet Hurt Recovery?
givenupgluten replied to wschmucks's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I think being vegan is a very personal choice and not one that everyone is able to make and commit to long term. That being said, I am vegan and have been for about 10-11 months. It's been the most rewarding choice I've ever made, and I feel better (less mood swings, better physical shape, and mentally more 'clear') than I ever had. When I found out about... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Cornbread At Whole Foods?
givenupgluten posted a topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I've searched all over for a gluten free cornbread mix...I hear that Bob's Red Mill makes one, but can't seem to find it. Just wondering if anyone knows if Whole Foods carries it, ...or any other brand/kind of gluten free cornbread? I'd take a pre-made one as well if they carry that... It's out of my way, which is why I've put it off this long! I think i... -

Just a heads up to those living in the nyc area....Mozzarelli's (a great little pizza place with loads of gluten free pizza options, as well as a few gluten free pasta dishes) is going totally gluten free on Sunday. ARCHIVED Holiday Work Party..uggghhh!
givenupgluten replied to givenupgluten's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Wow, thanks for all the quick replies! I really appreciate it! Since it's all buffet, and it does tend to get chaotic..it's probably best for me to bring my own food. There are a few people who know about my food 'issues', and most likely I will be sat with them anyway..so that works out pretty well. The appetizers are served immediately when we walk through... -
So the annual holiday work party is coming up....And I'm positive that there will be very little there I can eat (judging by past years 'spreads'...) This will be my first year going and eating gluten free and vegetarian. In the past years, the dinner has been served buffet style with several meats to choose from, maybe one pasta dish and a not-so-appetizing...

ARCHIVED gluten-free, Df, Vegetarians..i Need Dinner Ideas!
givenupgluten replied to GFqueen17's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Some of the cheese subs are good..some, not so much! It takes some trial and error to get it right. For me personally, I enjoy the shredded soy cheeses alot. I use them in nachos, or in soups or on top of baked dishes...they seem to melt well and give off pretty much the same taste/texture as real cheese. I haven't found a sliced fake cheese that I care for... -

givenupgluten replied to GFqueen17's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
hey there! me too, me too! Haha...I went mostly vegan before going gluten free. Strangely, I think the transition to vegetarianism helped me have an easier transition to gluten free, simply b/c I was already used to checking labels, researching recipes online, etc. If you do not have the book 'Veganomicon' I would highly recommend it..as well as "Gluten Free...
