ARCHIVED Casein Symptoms
luciddream928 posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I've recently eliminated casein from my diet because I always seem to get a rash when I eat gluten free "veggie cheese." I couldn't figure out what was bothering me because I've already eliminated dairy as well. Over the past week or so, I've gotten these symptoms on and off: A burning feeling on the inside of my arm (no rash, just feels like needles... -
ARCHIVED gluten-free/celiac Gi Specialist In Santa Fe
luciddream928 replied to luciddream928's topic in Doctors
Wow, thanks so much for the reply - I posted this months ago. Since that post, I've had a colonoscopy/endoscopy/2 biopsies, all normal (but that was on a gluten-free diet for 6 months, which I asked about, and they said "Diet doesn't matter."). I'm not sure if gluten is my problem anymore, they're saying it's IBS, but I've read in the research that gluten... -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Diet Helps, But Symptoms Still Present
luciddream928 replied to luciddream928's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Yes it is hard to tell whether or not I'm being glutened or not. I am almost positive that the rice cheese I bought has an effect on me. I noticed small red bumps on my hands, toes, and arms were SO ITCHY the next day... but it never lasts long so I never think it's DH. As far as I know, I cleaned everything out of my cabinets with gluten... and my personal... -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Diet Helps, But Symptoms Still Present
luciddream928 replied to luciddream928's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Thank you both for your replies and good insights! I really like the idea of separating food... I have found that when I'm really busy, and I eat small amounts of snacks (fruit, veggies, nuts) spaced out throughout the day then I seem to feel better. I've often wondered if it's because I"m eating one thing at a time and not really mixing it with other stuff... -
I just had a colonoscopy/endo and 2 biopsies and as far as I know everything came back normal. Not too much of a surprise since I've been gluten-free for about 6 months. I am still having symptoms, though, and the Dr. is leaning toward an IBS diagnosis. I hate to be a pessimist but I emphasize the "BS" in IBS. I have an appointment with an acupuncturist...

ARCHIVED Starbucks 2009 gluten-free Pilot Program...
luciddream928 posted a topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I just saw on a google search for starbucks and gluten that they are looking for feedback from people who follow a gluten-free diet about how to best provide gluten free options. Baked goods, etc. Many people have already contributed (300 I think) but if you are a fan of lattes like I am... and drool over the brownies but can't have one... then let them know... -

ARCHIVED Oh, No... Not Corn Too : (
luciddream928 replied to luciddream928's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It's hard w/ no corn. I'm not sure if my issue is corn or eggs - I had both that night, and my corn cereal didn't bother me this morning. I'll have to wait and see. You must have a hard time - you found out you have an allergy or you can't tolerate it? I've been off gluten for 4 months, but I think I keep slipping up. Hard to tell if it's me slipping up... -
ARCHIVED Question About Tortillas...
luciddream928 replied to JanieInCanada's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Are there any brands of tortillas that are not made from wheat or corn, perchance? I thought of using rice flour instead of the cornstarch to make the bean flour tortillas, but I don't have time to do so much cooking! -

I recently had bloodwork done to check for anemia, thyroid, (and a celiac panel, even though I'm on a gluten-free diet. From everything I've heard/read, you have to eat gluten to have accurate tests but my doc seems to think differently - he says the antibodies stay in the blood, but that's another story.) So after about 10 days of being able to digest... -
ARCHIVED Initial Diagnosis A Possible Gluten Problem?
luciddream928 replied to songstressc's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I've had a question about this for a while - why does that number have to be above 10 to be a positive? Shouldn't it be, "either you have it or you don't"? -
ARCHIVED New Haven, Ct Area?
luciddream928 replied to MaddyK's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Hi, I'm originally from New Haven, and I know that there is a new place called Nature's Grocer that has a dedicated gluten-free bakery. Their website is: Open Original Shared Link Also, "Edge of the Woods" (if they are still around, on State St. I believe) might have a very good selection of gluten-free products. There is a Trader Joe's in Orange... -

ARCHIVED Anyone Unemployed Or Divorced Because Of Celiac?
luciddream928 replied to mrmachinist's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
My heart goes out to you. I'm 28 and I've not been married yet, but I have wonderful support from my family and the agency that I am interning at. I feel blessed to have this support in my life and I've seen people struggle through the things that you are talking about. Raven is right - best to look to the future and the positive. Occasionally I've gotten... -
ARCHIVED Can You Really Eat Out?
luciddream928 replied to kkkkaty's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have had a few bad experiences eating out, but each time I know more and more how to ask for what I need. I always call before I go, and I talk to the manager on duty first. I explain my situation and if they are familiar with gluten. If they are, great, and I make sure they notify the waitstaff and ask that they suggest some items on the menu that are... -
ARCHIVED Does Anyone Have Sugar Cravings?
luciddream928 replied to whitball's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
On occasion I have sugar cravings. . . . and I notice bad mood swings, but I want more. Not sure what it's about. Probably frustration from not eating gluten foods. But it's funny, I notice that when I'm going through a "glutened" spell, when it breaks I want a ton of sugar. Perhaps from not eating at all? My brain is starving? As for solutions, I... -
ARCHIVED Prometheus Test
luciddream928 posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Does anyone know about the Prometheus test testing for enzymes in the blood? According to my GI and PA, it looks for a specific enzyme in your blood. I'm just curious, because all I ever hear about are testing for antibody levels. -
ARCHIVED Day 8.... Still Stomach Issues
luciddream928 replied to luciddream928's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thank you for the reply! I have to go shopping and get some basic stuff. I've been eating chicken soup for a while, TG for the gluten-free kind - it's actually really, really good. I wasn't sure about potatoes or noodles. I had rice pasta last night but I think the sauce was a bad idea - I don't know what to do with it without my usual butter and cheese! -
Sorry for the gross detail (a warning......) It's been about 8 days since I've got glutened (over Thanksgiving, I think at a friend's house). I've had stomach issues ever since - the classic bloating, D, alternating with constipation... basically my whole body is off and there seems to be no rhyme or reason to this. So I'm trying to eat, staying away...

ARCHIVED I Ate Gluten By Mistake. I Want It Out Of Me!
luciddream928 replied to Missing Licorice's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I've read on this forum somewhere that Milky Way Dark is gluten free, and regular Milky Way is not. They are made in different plants. If I were you, I'd call the company directly. I love Milky Way too!! -
I thought I could just substitute rice flour for the regular flour, but do all recpies work well when you do this? Also, I've not been able to find rice flour or sorghum flour at my regular grocer's... where do you guys get them?

Anyone know of any? I have one but might look for a 2nd opinion in the future...

ARCHIVED Do I Need To Eat Gluten For Accurate Blood Test?
luciddream928 replied to luciddream928's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I also wonder, why the antibody cutoff is so high? I had scores of antigliadin = 8, tissue transglutaminast = 6, and fecal fat of 291. I wonder what "normal" is? I know that the fecal fat should be around 150, but it seems logical that those other two numbers should be close to zero to be normal. Ehh what do I know! -

Yes I think you are right. Luckily I am working with a P.A. whom I really like. She read all of my enterolab results and my food/symptom journal from cover to cover. I was very impressed by this. I know that she follows his orders, but also listens. I have insurance for 4 more months before I finish my internship and move, so unfortunately I'm not really...
