ARCHIVED Things Are Getting Better
sugarsue posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
A big thank you to those who have posted food advice for us. You have proven to be an invaluable resource. Things are starting to turn around at our house. My daughter is now asking for rice with butter, rice noodles, eggs, asparagus.... She's planning her lunches with fruit and nuts (and plenty of Lays potato chips). She loves the Bell and Evans chicken... -
ARCHIVED My Turn To Post Test Results W/ Questions
sugarsue replied to sugarsue's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi and thanks for your response! How did you find out that you make very little IgA? I don't exactly know what to do as far as looking into the IgG out of range but maybe it's the stool testing. Maybe it's just trying the diet. So many questions! Susan -

ARCHIVED So I Finally Got All The Results Back From My Testing...
sugarsue replied to Myrna's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi, I'm sorry you are sick and not getting helpful responses from your doctor! I hope this post is not too annoying, especially since I don't know much about all this, but I was wondering, when you got your appendectomy, did you go on antibiotics? I had some huge bowel problems in the past after taking antibiotics and was much improved after taking a lot... -
ARCHIVED My Turn To Post Test Results W/ Questions
sugarsue posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
She is almost 6 with multiple celiac symptoms but also very mildly on the autism spectrum. Her IgA tests on the celiac panel are all Negative or normal. Her AGA IgG was 85 with a range of <11 negative 11-17Equivocal and >17 Positive. From what I've read, a positive IgG with normal IgA does not show strong signs towards celiac but since... -
ARCHIVED Why Does Celiac Cause Tooth Discoloration?
sugarsue replied to sixdogssixcats's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Interesting... my daughter is 6 and we are waiting for her test results back but in the mean time have started the gluten-free diet. She has not lost any teeth yet and none are loose. Her teeth came in fairly late too as a baby. Her sister who is not showing signs of celiac is 7 and has lost 7 teeth! I did a google search and came up with this thread... -
ARCHIVED Toppings For Crackers
sugarsue replied to sugarsue's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Thank you for these great ideas. It helped me to realize that if she helps make it or picks the stuff out herself, it will be very helpful. She chose rice with butter, green beans and okra for dinner tonight and topped it off with a banana and blueberry w/ rice milk smoothie. This was a huge breakthrough for us. The things you suggest, most right now... -
ARCHIVED Toppings For Crackers
sugarsue replied to sugarsue's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I can't find any bread she will eat so I'm trying crackers since I've found a few she will eat. She won't eat corn tortillas. I'm struggling to find stuff for her lunches. She's hugely picky right now. Susan -
ARCHIVED Toppings For Crackers
sugarsue posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My daughter (almost 6) is casein free and I am having trouble finding things to go on crackers. She does not like nut butters much (we've tried peanut and sun). Any ideas for stuff to put in crackers? She does like hummus and I also will give her pepperoni or other meat but this is not her favorite. She'd much rather have cheese. Also, which crackers... -
ARCHIVED She Ate Fruit Loops Today
sugarsue replied to sugarsue's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Yes, she will eat that. I think over time she will actually be happy with it. Right now, it makes her a little sad.... -
ARCHIVED She Ate Fruit Loops Today
sugarsue replied to sugarsue's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Part of what is so frustrating is that I was sending her with all her food for breakfast and lunch and snacks. But she was able to buy anyway. I didn't address it well enough with the school. Tonight she was crying again about her wheat pasta and and saying she hated the diet. Good luck to you. I hope things go well with the eating and gluten-free... -
ARCHIVED How Fast Can gluten-free Work?
sugarsue replied to sugarsue's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I found it! Thank you! Thank you as well for the support. I'm in tears now from the stress of it all but also from just having someone understand. The crying will probably help a lot but maybe I can find some laughter tomorrow too. Susan -
ARCHIVED She Ate Fruit Loops Today
sugarsue replied to sugarsue's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Well, it turns out she has been eating wheat every morning at school for breakfast so it's apparent she can't have access to buy anything at school. I'm pretty upset tonight about this. I'm very confused now. I thought she had improved so much so quickly. She seemed like a changed person. But how could that be if she was still exposed to wheat?... -
ARCHIVED How Fast Can gluten-free Work?
sugarsue replied to sugarsue's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I would love to have this article. I will try to find out how to send you my email address. I am so upset tonight, I can't even bare to start a new thread about it. My daughter has been eating wheat at school for breakfast all week it turns out, not just today (see Fruit Loops post maybe I will post there again). I am wondering if her amazing change this... -
ARCHIVED She Ate Fruit Loops Today
sugarsue replied to sugarsue's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
She is almost 6. I know she does not understand the importance yet but I thought she would follow my new "rule". I was going to wait until I found out the results of her celiac test and/or wait until I found out how she reacted to gluten-free before making any statements to her about why she can't eat it. For now, she knows it may help her feel better... -

ARCHIVED She Ate Fruit Loops Today
sugarsue posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My daughter came home today and was crying because she "had something to tell me" and she had bought Fruit Loops at school for breakfast. The school only got the form yesterday so the caffeteria may not know about the gluten free yet. But should I expect that they will know what that means? Should I take away her money and somehow shut down her ability... -

Thanks for the offer! She was addicted to pasta so that's the first thing she is missing. I bought some tinkyada pasta and that was OK but she hasn't asked for it again yet. It was OK and I think I'll be able to make meals with it but she didn't go for it with just butter which is how she liked her gluten pasta. I have a hard time finding meat protein... -
ARCHIVED Excited And Need To Tell You
sugarsue posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I'm feeling giddy inside and need to post this about my daughter. I am worried it's just a fluke and will go away when we wake up tomorrow. She had an almost normal stool tonight for the first time in a long time. No diarrhea!! Then she had a whole bunch of energy and was actually JOGGING around our street, collecting rocks and leaves and a worm. ... -
ARCHIVED Blood Test Done, Started gluten-free Tonight
sugarsue replied to sugarsue's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I like the soy creamer. I have used that when I've been off dairy in the past. Sounds like a trial run would be good for you! -
ARCHIVED Blood Test Done, Started gluten-free Tonight
sugarsue replied to sugarsue's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Thanks for the encouragement! Our doc recommended Organic Smart Balance for our butter. It's the only non-dairy stuff my kids have liked. I like it too and luckily it says gluten free too! Susan -

My daughter already seems different after only 1 day, can that be possible? Her teacher said she did better in school today than the norm (she's in kindergarten). We played cards tonight and she seemed more mature, more able to use a quiet voice. She and her sister played nicely for an hour without any crying or fighting. She had a diarrhea at school... -
ARCHIVED Blood Test Done, Started gluten-free Tonight
sugarsue replied to sugarsue's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Thanks! Great suggestion about the toy. I'm not sure what it is for her but I will ask. So she can have the apples and the dip?? She was really upset tonight that she could not have her favorite pasta. But I made her turkey bacon and she had some pinapple and funyons. Then we made rice crispy treats out of fruity and coco pebbles. It was a junk... -
ARCHIVED Blood Test Done, Started gluten-free Tonight
sugarsue posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
We got dd's blood test taken and she is now happily eating brown rice pasta with non-dairy butter! I bought the tinkadyada pasta and it looks like it's a hit. That said, she is the type to change her mind a few times so time will tell. She cried and cried when she realized this means no more McDonalds Happy Meals (her favorite thing besides pasta with... -
ARCHIVED A Good Way To Cope!
sugarsue replied to LuvMoosic4life's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I think information sharing is very important too! I took my daughter out for dinner tonight. We are starting gluten-free on Tuesday after her Celiac panel (she's 6). She took her gluten free menu and away we went on a trial run. Her gluten free meal came with a huge piece of texas toast right on top of the chicken. I had been talking with the lady...
