  1. Hi Rinne, bananas contain very much starch when they are unripe. At the end of the ripenig process the starch mostly is transformed to sugar biochemically. The black spots are stiches of little insects which suck juice from the skin of unripe bananas. It doesn't affect the bananas but only makes those spots during ripening - and it's a good marker for...
  2. Hi Rinne, I do wish you that the SCD will help you recover! As for the probiotics, if you have the possibility, first make a stool test to analyse your gut flora just to see what is there and what isn't. I'm going to do this myself these days after one antibiotic in october and another last week. During the last years I found out that it's always something...
  3. Thanks, Ali - just what I'd have been looking for. I think I'll see if Ican find that book at Amazon. There can be a relation between pancreas enzyme production and HCl in the stomach. Substituted pancreas enzymes work better when they are accompanied by HCL supplementation. Plus the body gets more alkaline (basic) if there is enough acid in the stomach...
  4. Shay, happy very belated birthday!!! All, I do hope you had a splendid SCD Thanksgiving! Rinne, welcome to the SCD world The more people here the better to support and share! Sherry, this lyme blog is very interesting, thanks for posting. Fortunately lyme isn
  5. Bang - head - brick wall - indeed. Just at this moment I have cravings for apples, carrots, pumpkin, peanutbutter and lentils like mad (once a month I have cravings anyway but now that I have to avoid even fresh fruit I really could bang a brick wall... I do feel with you and the chocolate thing!) This really is the question about the hen and the egg...
  6. Hi Kristina, yes, the curd cheese I mean is Quark Funny to meat someone from Germany! I'm between the Ruhrgebiet and the Dutch border. Luckily I'm neither lactose nor casein intolerant. Well, gluten and fructose are quite enough Ah - no, mistake, sorry. The doctor is a gastroenterologist who is specialised in celiac and other food intolerances...
  7. Hi, I use to make a bread with ground cashews which is very moist and delicious: for one small loaf: 2 large eggs 1/3 tsp. salt 2 cups raw cashews 1/3 tbsp. apple cider vinegar 2/3 cup SCD yoghurt 1/3 cup apple juice 1/2 tsp. baking soda Preheat oven to 300 degrees F. Line 8 1/2 x 4 1/2 '' loaf pan with parchment paper and place on baking...
  8. Hi everyone, here in Germany we have lots of curd cheese which is very cheap (about 1 euro per pound) and I just tried to use it as a base for dry curd cottage cheese. It has 4 g carbohydrates per 100 g like milk, so I thought maybe just heat it, mix with starter and let ferment for 24 hours. I started with low fat curd cheese (which is the cheapest...
  9. Kristina, you could do what quite a lot of us have done: Skip the intro and jump fully into the SCD by just avoiding illegal foods. Personally, I made up my own "intro" by choosing the food I thought would be best to start with (what I knew would agree with me) and then started with this for two weeks. After those two weeks I started adding more foods step...
  10. Hi Kristina, welcome Concerning candida - the thing is that candida alway is a consequence of bacterial dysbalance, not the other way round. So first you will never get rid of a candidiasis if you don't change the bacterial milieu to normal. As soon as the milieu is back to normal, cadida will disappear because it can't exist in the normal gut flora...
  11. Ali - that sounds pretty reasonable. The problem with SCD is that you are always tempted to eat too much proteins without enough raw fruit and vegetables. So that makes the body acidic. Sherry, I read something that made me think of you: You are taking antibiotics for years now, and I just saw that the intake of antibiotics can disturb the histamine...
  12. It just came to my mind that it would make sense to post the links to SCD recipe sites in this place: www.pecanbread.com www.scdiet.org/2recipes/indexa.html www.scdrecipe.com/ www.honeybigbee.com/ Open Original Shared Link www.scdadventures.blogspot.com/
  13. Sorry Well, sodium bicarbonate is alkaline and as such it reacts with acids and bases - that is why it is a rising agent in baking when combined with vinegar. If you heat it above 140 degrees F it decomposes into sodium carbonate, water and carbon dioxide which means that it becomes a stronger alkaline. This stronger alkaline makes the harder cellulose...
  14. Hi, yes, I cut down the liquid in the recipe. Actually it was a recipe which used egg, too, and I blended the mashed beans and eggs in the food processor until creamy. The baking soda shortens the cooking time and makes the starches better digestible.
  15. Hi, navy bean flour is said to be great instead of garfava. You can grind the navy beans in a coffee grinder or food processor. I didn't try it this way, but I did try bread with cooked mashed navy beans. It turned out very good and tasted delicious. You should then soak the beans obernight and cook them with a half tsp. of baking soda. It makes them easier...
  16. Breakfast pancake: 2 eggs 1 heaped tbsp. dry curd cottage cheese or dripped yoghurt 1 tbsp. runny honey 1 tbsp. cocnut flour In a blender mix all ingredients until you have a foamy, light yellow cream. Lightly grease a non stick skillet, heat to medium high and pour the pancake mix into the skillet. Cook until surface of the pancake is still bubbly...
  17. Kathryn, chocolate is illegal because cacao contains several kinds of starches. There are pecan brownies, though, which seem to do quite okay for a chocolate substitute
  18. Well... as far as I remember there is no meat or fish included in the Hippocrates diet. The big error which most raw food followers make is to think that our ancestors only lived from green things and fruit. In fact no human being would have lived through one single winter in regions where winter means no fruit, no vegetables, no grain and lots of snow on...
  19. Hi Yenni, yes, I have the two Grain-free Gourmet cookbooks, Eat Well Feel Well and Healing Foods. As I have a fructose malabsorption I have to change things sometimes but that's okay. But as lots of SCD recipes are based on nuts and almond flour I'm not quite sure if this books would make sense for you. Of course there's no soy and grains, but nuts and...
  20. Hi Yenni, as storebought vanilla extract in Germany is either very artificial or very expensive, I made my own one: 300 ml pure vodka and three vanilla beans. I split the beans and put them into the vodka and keep it in a small bottle. After three weeks you have a strong vanilla extract. You can let the beans sit in the vodka for about half a year and...
  21. Thanks for posting the article, pele. I already was confused when I read BTVC for the first time because as far as I knew bifidobacteria are very important, e.g. for preventing allergies. Since then I was researching about probiotics but never came to a reasonable conclusion. Now I have some more stuff to chew on Only I know that my anaerobe flora...
  22. That seems quite reasonabe to me. I remember when I was preparing my examinations at the university I had more stress than ever before in my life because I had to look after my alcoholic mother, do my job, and learn - and that's the only time of my life I can remember that I could eat normal meals plus tons of chocolate without any problems. I always wondered...
  23. My start was following the intro consequently - the bloating got better but I felt weaker and more hungry every day. Then I fumbled with adding new foods and thought it would get better. But then although I didn't add new foods, it even got worse again. One day I had no bloating, the other day I had the same food and had most awful bloating, muscle pain,...
  24. Hi Ali, no, it was a hydrogen breath test at the doctor's. The tricky thing about fructose malabsorption is that it's hard to figure out by trial and error. It always depends on the amount of fructose containing foods you take in - one carrot can be okay, then the next day you have two carrots and one apple which is much too much fructose - but you can't...
