ARCHIVED Blood Tests? Endoscopy? Insurance? Drinking Alcohol?
curiousgeorge replied to neongirl's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
They only did those two tests? They didn't to TTG? TTG is the autoimmune component of the blood work. If your happy just being gluten-free then skip the biopsy. -
ARCHIVED Suspected Celiac Child
curiousgeorge replied to sand19's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I would ask yuur family doc for the blood req. If you go to the outpatient lab at your local childrens hospital (sick kids or London children's) you shouldn't have to pay. I took all three of mine to Sick kids. I don't know how much use a ped will be with this unless its a ped GI doc. Really what you want ASAP is the blood work and any doc can order... -
ARCHIVED Celiac And Guillian Barre?
curiousgeorge replied to curiousgeorge's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
It was my aunt. It was a long time ago and she was fine after being completely paralyzed for a good three months. She is old and frail now but not from that. She now has dementia issues and it had me wondering if GBS would be linked. I'm 99% sure my mother had celiac and I think its rampid in y mothers family. -
ARCHIVED Scared To Death Of My Biopsy
curiousgeorge replied to GFinBC's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I had mine done in Toronto at Mt Siani and it was fine. No sore throat, no memory other than them putting something in my mouth. I woke up as soon as they were done and was still in the procedure room. I was kinda stoned for the rest of the day but fine other than that. They put an iv thing in my arm but just the clippy part, no fluid bag. They inject... -
ARCHIVED Suspected Celiac Child
curiousgeorge replied to sand19's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I am the celiac one in our house, but I asked our family doc for the blood work paper work for my kids and hauled all three to the sick kids lab for the blood work. I had it back in a couple of weeks. DD had the highest levels but not quite enough to be considered ceilac. All three are gluten-free now because my kitchen is gluten-free. -
Is there a link between guillian barre syndrome and celiac? I have a family history of guillian barre and of celiac and wondering if there is alink?

I too thoguht it was the tomatos. After pizza my mouth would be raw. Must be the tomatos. Never liked pasta because I'd be starving an hour later. Something to do with the tomatos. Had allergy testing, fine with tomatos. It seems a lot of us blame tomatos LOL when its the wheat. -
ARCHIVED Wheat, Barly, Rye; Why Didn't Our Ancestors Notice It?
curiousgeorge replied to dogle's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
A friend and her sister both have IBS symptoms. I have told both of them to get celiac testing and one specifically said oh I don't have that. I can eat anything. ROLLING EYES. Yeah, I was like that too, it was the tomatos, the lettuce, the instert what you like. I had one HORRID episode after having a coffee and a donut and said how could a donut make... -
ARCHIVED Nicu Is Feeding My Newborn Gluten
curiousgeorge replied to mom2two's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
How is he doing now? I saw you posted this a few days ago. My oldest was a NICU baby too but for different reasons. He had a bunch of food allergies as a small child and I really think it had a lot to do with the things they gave (food/drugs) him in the ICU. I would really see if they can use the other option. Ask for a GI consult etc. Celiac is triggered... -

ARCHIVED Wheat, Barly, Rye; Why Didn't Our Ancestors Notice It?
curiousgeorge replied to dogle's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I am convinced both my grandmothers suffered from celiac. ONe spent almost her entire life in bed sick and depressed and died in her early 70's in 1960's and the other died at 47 of intestinal cancer after suffering type 1 diabestes for years and died in 1941. I suspect that those that suffered as adults simply died earlier. I know in the UK and Ireland... -
ARCHIVED Just Plain Fat

I eat lots of meat. I have lean beef several times a week in some form or another. I still have ferritin issues though although I'm getting dextran shots and I can feel the difference. I am 41 I know someone asked. I bought a biggest loser work out dvd this week and did it today and it totally kicked my butt. It was cardio with weights so lets... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Turn Down A Biopsy For Their Child?
curiousgeorge replied to EmmyLouWho?'s topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My kids have been essentially gluten-free since the summer when I went gluten-free. I am gluten-free, I have autoimmune issues and a LONG history of familial autoimmune on both sides and by god, if I can prevent that in them then I'm going to do it. My kitchen is gluten-free and we decided that the kids would follow suit. I had them tested and one had... -
ARCHIVED Synthroid
curiousgeorge replied to wowzer's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I happily take armour thyroid and feel 100% better on it than I ever did on synthroid. Most people who try it. -
ARCHIVED Just Plain Fat

Oh brunch is generally after I get the kids out the door and the morning rush is over yet before the lunch rush. I have a yoga date with a freind next week so we shall see. Its so frustrating because I've never had any luck loosing weight other than when I'm post partum. Grrr. -
ARCHIVED Just Plain Fat
curiousgeorge replied to curiousgeorge's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Well today for example. I had home made ginger carrot soup (made up of all veggies and chicken stock) for brunch and a cup of coffee I had some macadamia nuts and some black tea (no sugar or milk) for a snack. Second snack of a kids yoghurt (danino with dha and omega 3 fatty acids) and for supper I had a home made stew thing in my pressure cooker... -
I'm just plain fat. Was before dx and even more so now. I was dx in the summer and have gained 15 lbs since then. I'm the fattest I've been in my non-pregnant adult life. I just hit 180 lbs. I am 5'5". I don't eat very much at all and its geneally a pretty good diet. I just don't get it. I have well treated thyroid issues (armour and cortef for adrenal...

ARCHIVED I'm In A Quandary! (sp?)
curiousgeorge replied to Bell's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I read Dr Green's book and he is very clear in it that if you have pos. blood work and neg biopsy there is no need for the diet. I've found it REALLY hard to find any good info on what actually causes false postive blood work. -
ARCHIVED Feeling Sick After Eating Gluten-free Noodles
curiousgeorge replied to cziegler's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Yes. Restaurants are scary places. You should read the book "Heat". There is a part in it about the pasta cooker they have in the kitchen. By the end of the night when they clean it, it has all ilk of crap in it. For me I only eat it if its grilled or baked (potato). I eat a lot of steak when I travel -
ARCHIVED My Mom Was Just Told She Has Celiac.. I Need All The Info I Can Find
curiousgeorge replied to Katie7249's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It sounds to me like the rash could be dermatitis herpatiformis (sp?) which is the celiac rash. What kind of state is your mother in? You said you are POA, is she living alone or is she being cared for? I know how rough it is dealing with a sick elderly parent. -
If you had trouble breathing you need to take this very seriously. You don't always have hives and itch with anaphylaxsis. A change in alertness IS a sign of anaphylaxsis. You need to stop eating nuts and get tested. Open Original Shared Link I don't think this is the same as the sleepies from gluten. For YEARS I would use cereal as a sleep aid...

ARCHIVED Opinion On Biopsy After Positive Bloodwork
curiousgeorge replied to curiousgeorge's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Well, I'm more or less happy to consider myself diagnosed but... I suspect that the follow up won't be there w/o it. I have my doubts that I will get the follow-up in six months as per the suggestion and will likely not get the bone density test every two years. It makes me feel like I've slipped through the cracks some. My blood work was taken bf going... -
ARCHIVED Opinion On Biopsy After Positive Bloodwork
curiousgeorge posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I've been reading here for ages, and I now finally have the nerve to post. I had postive bloodwork this spring and was sent off for an endoscope. My bloodwork was as follows: TTG IGA 74 normal was less than 20 anti-gliadin IGA 17 normal is less than 20 anti-gliadin IGG 56 normal is less than 20 Based on the positive bloodwork I had the scope....
