  1. Happy birthday and may God bless you today!

  2. After my initial biopsy I had two more, one a year later and the other 2 years later. They just wanted to make sure I wasn't inadvertantly ingesting gluten. Hope that helps!!
  3. Alexolua, I'll try my best to answer them...I've been gluten-free for 8 years & I hope what I've learned the hard way will help. 1) Are any flavorings safe? Malt, Artificial, Natural, others? You're right Malt is NOT safe, both Artificial and Natural can contain gluten you have to check with manufacturers. 2) It would be best to buy cookware,...
  4. dana, I heard that about Italy!! I think that is amazing, they must have really good pasta there then!! I'm trying my hardest to go there and see what it's like for a person with Celiac!!!
  5. Tammy, I am suffering from the same thing!! I am gaining weight like crazy!! I was always underweight before diagnosis and I can't stop eating thus gaining like crazy!! I also find my abdomen is always quite swollen even if I haven't cheated!! I feel like I'm losing control!!!
  6. Karina, I know exactly how you feel unfortunately I have some bad news. I have been gluten free for 7 years and my stomach is still bloated all the time! I was actually going to go see my GI to see what's up. It's getting a bit much now, maybe I'm accidently ingesting gluten and not having a reaction?? I don't know I am so confused with that too. I too...
  7. Yankee, I'll be dreaming gluten free heaven tonight with all those notions!!
  8. Mario, Chances are that if you ingest gluten (it's not nice but..) it would smell so bad it could gag a horse!!! Those are my experiences anyway. The cravings I get, can get pretty insane. I get so hungry I would eat all day everyday. Don't worry it all gets better in time!!
  9. I too was REALLY underweight pre diagnosis (under 100 lbs) and now I can't seem to stop gaining weight!!! I'm trying to lose again, you are not alone.
  10. Sara has got it down pat!! I keep tabs on where gluten goes and wherever it goes my food doesn't. I have never had a problem with dishes. I store my food separately totally everywhere (in the fridge, freezer, cupboards and pantry) Don't stress out it becomes second nature!
  11. I totally agree! I've been gluten free for about 7 years and I think of myself as normal as anyone else. I am confident when I go out to eat that I can have a safe gluten free meal. I'm still working on the kitchen part since I still live with family that eat enough gluten to feed a small village for a year!!! There is hope for everyone, it takes work but...
  12. I too didn't know that stamps and stuff like that are a no-no?!?! Good thing I hate the way they taste so I always get my boyfriend to lick it or get self adhesive one!!
  13. celiac disease, I totally agree with you. It's very annoying (to say the least) to have to go through a detailed account of exactly what Celiac Disease is etc... I think it is getting better though 'cause now I run into people who say "oh yeah I know someone who has that." So time will tell I guess.
  14. Dale, I don't think Celiac Disease is something you can have mildly. You either have it or you don't. However everybody is different and can react differently to different things. Let's say for instance we both have a milkshake with a small amount of gluten in it, I may react quite badly and you might not react at all. This doesn't mean that your intestines...
  15. Gillian, It takes some people longer to heal from going undiagnosed than others so I wouldn't give up on the diet just yet. I too cannot believe that your Dr said you can be considered a failure on this diet. What is he a doctor of??? I have never heard of that in my life. I have been on the diet for many years and sometimes there are little ways you...
  16. Sarah, I want to recommend that your doctor perform an endoscopy, since that will give you a definitive answer to the Celiac question but it is so intrusive and I don't wish it on anyone much less a 5 year old. Good Luck
  17. Tagger, Can't say I really blame you. People without it can be very insensitive. It can be your little secret.
  18. Zippyten, I find the exact same thing with my family. I know of at least 3 family members who I think might have Celiac and will ignore my advice or their doctors think it's rare or some other junk!! Even when you tell them that it is in fact hereditary, they still want to ignore it!!! What is up with people taking such poor care of themselves?!? My...
  19. Suzn, I think people go through adjusting to the diet differently. I went the denial route, I ignored the fact that I couldn't eat flour for about a year. It gets so much easier to deal with the diet and way of life that you realize that eating gluten free is so much healthier and you can see how many problems wheat causes. Although people who eat it...
  20. Tom, Absolutely!!! It has been said that you are born with it and it gets triggered. I have had it all my life and only got a dx when I was 15. I have missed so much school on account of all kinds of things due to Celiac. Doctor's even told my mother I was doing it for attention so don't let anyone else tell you anything about your body but you!!
  21. Chrissy, I haven't experienced symptoms quite like that but my hands get swollen sometimes and I discovered that I have poor circulation (not sure if that's due to Celiac..I don't think so though) I do agree with jhmom you should get that checked out. About the pizza I know that some people have similar reactions to gluten maybe the sauce had some gluten...
  22. Kim, Yeah!!! That's them!! They are really quite good!!
  23. D, Are going to the washroom like crazy?? That could cause the weight loss. I used to be under 100lbs before diagnosis, but that's because every time I ate I could keep anything in my body!! I'd rather gain more weight and be healthy than underweight and malnurished.
  24. Pete, That is ridiculous that she couldn't handle it!! I too have an incredibly supportive boyfriend whose done everything in his power to help me feel as normal as possible. She must have been REALLY selfish if she said she couldn't handle it, was she the one in the bathroom everytime she ate something with gluten in it?!? There are people in this world...
  25. Mario, I know you have gotten the replies that I will give but believe I am overly qualified to give it. I ignored the diet for a year, thinking really how bad can the damage be. I wanted to eat pizza with my friends and have a normal birthday cake. I was getting myself in trouble. I ended up in the hospital with a total atrophy of my small intestine...
