February, 2008: My 8 yr. old daughter attended a b-day party and developed flu-like symptoms. 2wks. later: Still vomiting, cramping, diarrea, not eating, no fever. Took her to ped. (saw the partner). I totally agree and am shocked and appalled at the crass insensitivity by her doctors for even mentioning it in front of her--the last thing a sick child needs to hear is that she's overweight! Not only is it possible to be overweight and have celiac, it may delay your diagnosis as many medical practitioners are following a protocol that is limited by symptoms such as weight loss. I have read several conflicting food lists regarding this additive--including information from my GI.
