  1. Well, I don't have much new to add here, but after reading this a few times I just have to reply. I have already stated that I would not do the scope if I had it to do over again. I have already shared that the biopsy performed on my little one did not show damage--not until ANOTHER doctor looked at it many, many months later. What I haven't said is that...
  2. Your child is still very young and may not yet possess the reasoning skills to make selective choices, so simple lessons help teach the rules of gluten-free eating. Unforunately the hardest lesson of all is getting glutened! Lots of 'high fives' when a breakthrough happens (like pedaling) reinforces to them just how important and positive this new way of...
  3. My 8 yr. old has white marks on the enamel of her teeth that appeared at the time of her very worst symptoms before diagnosis. Also, her liver enzymes were very elevated for many months--a mystery we never solved. The count was at one point 715, slowly going to 500, then 300 (Idon't know what 'normal' is.) Her new GI said that in all likelyhood this...
  4. This is a very difficult decision for a parent to make. You are fortunate that you have already reached a positive for celiac in the bloodwork--this took us a long time and many rounds of labs to get to for our 8 year old. My feeling on the biopsy is this--up until last month I completely regretted letting the GI do it because the results weren't positive...
  5. sg whiskers...I have scoured this forum for info. daily (first as a guest, now as a member), since the very first time I heard the term "celiac disease" one year ago. What a frightening, overwhelming concept to deal with, especially when you or your loved one is ill--so much information to process. This forum has been an invaluable resource for my family...
  6. Very useful info! Thank you for sharing. I printed it off for my files--you never know when you could need it. Thanks!
  7. Hi there. Your post is interesting to me for a variety of reasons. Alhough I may not be able to offer the insight that other more experienced members will, I know that there are many here who can help. For myself, I will be watching this post eagerly for my own reasons. I have found in my own research that neurologic symptoms can be related to celiac...
  8. My family and I are very, very happy for you! It is such a tremendous relief to FINALLY see your baby feel better, isn't it? I know exactly how you feel. Keep up the good cookin'--we wish you the best of health
  9. Wow-he sounds like a keeper! It is so great to have the love and support of our family and friends. My mother-in-law has been especially kind during our transition, and has helped our daughter (her only grandchild) cope by learning how to make very delicious gluten-free baked goods--pies and cookies, etc. Prior to my daughters diagnosis, they would spend...
  10. I can only speak from the point of view of an observer here, but from what I witnessed of my daughter's symptoms her NUMBER ONE complaint was of severe abdominal pain--and yes, it hurt her to be touched there. In fact, she could show me and the docs. the exact place it hurt (always in the area of the stomach, below the ribs and way above the navel.) But...
  11. I get migraine auras w/out the head ache--they are called scintillating scotoma. Is this what you experience Open Original Shared Link ?
  12. We just took the family to G F Cucina's for dinner for the first time...two thumbs up!! Two adults and one celiac child had an excellent gluten-free meal for about $30, including entrees, breadstix, beverages, and dessert. I have to say, the pizza was top notch--fresh cheese, great sauce, thin crust. Like a gourmet pizza! The "Cucina sticks" were very...
  13. This sounds a lot like the pimply rash my daughter has on her arms and chest. It never seems to itch for her, but I had a good look at it the other day and I suspect this may be another manifestation of her celiac, in the form of DH. She has had this bumpy rash for years, and it's getting worse as time goes by. I have only seen extreme cases in photos...
  14. A side note...what is a "Trump Dining Card"?
  15. Hi there, fellow Michigander! Keep me posted as to any other gluten-free choices around here!
  16. I have just found two new dine-out possibilities. The Uno's Chicago Grill on M-59 & Mound has a gluten free menu (including pizza). I called to verify--they said they just implemented this a week and a half ago. A new restaurant just opened in Sterling Heights, MI at 17 Mile & Mound that specializes in Gluten free foods--it is called "gluten...
  17. Hi all--does any body know of a gluten-free chewable multi-vit. for kids? Or which national brands are best? My little one likes the "gummy" type. Thanks!
  18. Try these: EnerG White Rice Loaf (in the pantry/baked goods area)=fyi, stays fresher if stored on counter Food For Life (fruit juice sweetened) Brown Rice Bread (in the freezer section)=makes great toast Enjoy Life Bagels (freezer--can be used as a sandwich bread substitute)=I pack these for my daughter on "bagel day" at school And, yes, I agree...
  19. Hi Sasha! It is so nice to know you. I think your English is just fine. I can tell you from my own experience that you will find this forum to be very informative and helpful. Good Luck!
  20. Had a problem with Tom's, too, but it was years ago--maybe ingredients have changed. For us, we stick with Aqua-fresh--the kid's Bubblemint for daughter, Extra-fresh for me. Saw another post here about Arm & Hammer Sensitive--I will try it. Thanks for the tip!!
  21. I posted in another area about toothpaste--Oral B was definitely one of the brands that caused the rash for my daughter.
  22. Does this happen to any one else? My child and I both get a rash around the outside of our mouths from many brands of toothpaste. It kind of looks like a burn at first--red and warm. If use is continued it will become dry, itchy, and red. For me, it also makes the inside of my mouth peel--eww! We can both use only aqua fresh products, but only certain...
  23. There are so many additives to watch for! Does any body know about these two? I searched the cocoa in the forum search engine, but found no matches. Thank you!
  24. Interesting--the dark circles under my daughters eyes have gone away, too!
  25. I think I speak for everyone when I say, "We feel your pain!" As for doctors, I can only say that you have to keep looking until you find the right one, the very best one for your child and your family. I know how it feels to have your gut tell you one thing and the doctor tell you another. My advice--trust your "gut"--both your inner sense of what is...
