ARCHIVED Ordering Gf Beer
Sharon C. replied to DoctorDave's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I read somewhere that Heineken is gluten-free. IS that just a rumour, or is it true? Thanks. -

ARCHIVED Extended Family -- What If They Refuse To Adjust?
Sharon C. replied to cdford's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi celiac3270- I have to say that I am so very impressed with how you carry yourself on this message board. My son is 8 years old, just diagnosed in October, and I hope he turns out to be a lot like you! -
ARCHIVED Roast Beef In Crockpot
Sharon C. replied to adeboer's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I live int he US- I could swear I saw something on the Lipton mix here. I remember putting them in a bag to give away when I had to clean out my cabinets after my son was diagnosed. Maybe I misread something. Sharon -
Do I need to get new pots and pans if my regular pots and pans are teflon coated? I have read others mention things about this. A warm soapy washing isn't enough? Thanks- Sharon

These are good ideas, and I agree with not isolating him. I did think about having the kitchen heat up something, but I'm so worried that workers at TGIF could care less about contamination, or remain oblivious beyond my explanation. I didn't want to make the effort to keep him gluten-free just to have someone mess it all up on me. I thought once I let...

Yes, it does! Thanks! I thought it got swallowed up by the board or something! Whew!

I just checked every forum. I cannot find my question. Do posts get deleted by some moderators? There was nothing wrong with my question. This is the second time I posted something on this board and could never find it again. I thought this was supposed to be a supportive forum.

I just posted a question about eating with my son in an unsafe resturant with family and it is gone. I have checked other forums where it would seem appropriate to be. Can someone please direct me to my question? Thanks.

Hi- I wasn't sure to post this here or in the "Parents/Family Of" section. It's not so much about the resteraunt as it is about how to handle this. My sister knows my 8 year old son was just diagnosed with Celiac disease. She is deciding to invite everyone to TGI Friday's to celebrate her 9 year old son's birthday. They are the only children coming...

ARCHIVED Cranberry Sauce/thanksgiving
Sharon C. replied to gfmelissa's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi- I make mine, too, before my son was even diagnosed. It's so easy. Tarnalberry's rescipe sounds great, but there's a fast easy way, too. Ocean Spray has the recipe right on the bag of cranberries. One cup water, one cup sugar, stir until boiling. Add bag of cranberries when the water and sugar boil. Lower flame, stir occasionally. This dish is... -

ARCHIVED Are Fruity Pebbles And Cocoa Pebbles Safe?
Sharon C. replied to Sharon C.'s topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I wanted to get him the Environ-Kids cereals but they all contain traces of peanut and my son is allergic to peanut. So far I have purchased online the amaranth cereal, which is a good cereal, but you dont get much and it's very expensive. Also, I purchased Quinoa flavored cereal packets (like oatmeal) which are expensive and when they arrived, they also... -
ARCHIVED Are Fruity Pebbles And Cocoa Pebbles Safe?
Sharon C. replied to Sharon C.'s topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I called the company, which is really Kraft by the way, and they just went over the guidelines of their labels once again, saying that wheat or whatever would be listed. Possible contamination would be listed like any other ingedient. She said read the box every time. I used to eat Fruity Pebbles when I was a kid. -
ARCHIVED Are Fruity Pebbles And Cocoa Pebbles Safe?
Sharon C. posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi- Reading another post on another forum, I saw that a woman buys her daughter Fruity Pebbles and Cocoa Pebbles by Post. Are these cereals known to be safe? My son would love these as a once in a while treat. Anyone or anyone's child ever suffer a reaction? Thanks. -
ARCHIVED Vinegar Clarification Please...
Sharon C. replied to wifeofceliac's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
That DOES help. I am feeling the need for a notebook here- I have a funny feeling I will be having a big fat notebook stuffed with notes. I need something I can take to the store with me. I'm going to need to organize this. Thanks again. -
ARCHIVED Does Anyone Get Stressed About Their Diet
Sharon C. replied to Tutahl75's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Exactly. My son never complained of feeling sick, so although he withered away to just skin and bones and had muscle wasting and never gained a pound over 40 pounds (he is 8 years old and weighs only 40 pounds but is average height), no doctors believed me or would look into his conditon. Instead they all insisted he was perfectly fine until an endocrinologist... -
ARCHIVED Should Nutrient Levels Be Tested After Diagnosis?
Sharon C. replied to Sharon C.'s topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi Richard- I am only skeptical after reading that other conditions mimic celiac. It took me 4 years to convince doctors that my son was too thin after being brushed off by them repeatedly and being told my son was fine. A specialist, not his pediatrician, suggested the celiac blood screen. After that, he underwent the biopsy and it was positive. ... -
ARCHIVED Should Nutrient Levels Be Tested After Diagnosis?
Sharon C. posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi- I need to help my child gain weight. He is 8 years old and has just been diagnosed with celiac. He is extremely thin and his bone age is 4 1/2 even though he is now turning 8 next week. After the celiac diagnosis, shouldn't they test his blood to see if he is deficient in certain nutrients? Or maybe they did and just haven't given me those results... -
ARCHIVED Does Anyone Get Stressed About Their Diet
Sharon C. replied to Tutahl75's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
But there is a destination. I think that destination is to be at peace wiuth oneself, and content. For a lot of people, that is difficult because the stress of staying on a strict diet is stressful in of itself. You can never just relax. Unfortunately in my son's case, he had no gastro upset. His only symptoms were malnourishment over time. He... -

It's especially hard for children. My son was just diagnosed and he will sit in class today at his Halloween party and watch all the other kids eat whatever they want. Life sucks. -

Is Coke ok? How about Pepsi? They are OK according to Codex, but does that mean they contain trace amounts? Thanks. -
ARCHIVED Vinegar Clarification Please...
Sharon C. replied to wifeofceliac's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Also, it helps if I add that I am referring to the list of foods that are "no longer on the gluten-free list." It includes claussen pickles, breakstone's sour cream, etc. If they are wrong on those two items, how can I trust the rest of the list. I am just feeling discocuraged. -
ARCHIVED Vinegar Clarification Please...
Sharon C. replied to wifeofceliac's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi Richard- Here's the site: Open Original Shared Link When you read their lists, it contains a lot of food on the safe lists of other sites. Also, I called Coca Cola today (because of the caramel coloring) and they said their cola is safe according to the codex standard, meaning 2 millionth or something percent which is below the number most celiacs... -
ARCHIVED Vinegar Clarification Please...
Sharon C. replied to wifeofceliac's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
How come one one of the celiac websites with lists for safe foods and lists for unsafe, have vinegar and vinegar containing products on the unsafe foodlist if it is proven that it's safe? I just don't get it. For unsafe, they had all Claussen brand pickles, they had sour cream on there, they had all these foods that are on other website's safe lists. It...
