  1. I can sympathize... I seem to get sick whenever i eat at others houses even though they tell me that what they are cooking is Gluten-Free. I never get sick at my own home.. Hubbie is frustrated with me, telling me that he doesn't get why I'm always sick, so I pointed out that it NEVER happens here, so it is clearly an issue with cross contamination.. Anything...
  2. Oh my gosh, it is such a relief to know I'm not the only one. Up until now, that's how I felt... I too get sick when others say they are making something 'gluten-free'.. I've seen my dad make a pizza, with flour EVERYWHERE, using floured hands to touch everything else.. Then they will break apart the bread all over the other food... It is true, if they haven...
  3. Thanks for the response! I've had my own HUBBIE try and rinse off chicken that his dad put teriyaki sauce on, without me knowing.. I was FURIOUS!!! My own family tries.. but to no avail... I'm italian, and I spend summers up at their cottage with the kids.. Try being gluten free in an italian house! OMG bread everywhere. I was gluten free for 1 1/2 years...
  4. See, my issue with my rice crackers that claim to be 'gluten free'- are that I know not all flavours are gluten free. And given they are manufactured in Asia, I HIGHLY doubt that this company has a dedicated area for their gluten free line... ALl the products I buy made in North America say "batch tested" or "dedicated factory".. These rice cakes just claim...
  5. LOl! Trust me, the only thing holding me back from doing that, is then the kids go with my hubbie, and my inlaws load them up on junk, which only I have a problem with... If it weren't for the 'kidde' factor, i"d be telling him to go alone!!
  6. I've been wondering about Tostitos lately as well.. I'm being glutened regularly and I cannot for the life of me figure out how... I know that Tostitos makes some of their stuff with gluten, so maybe contamination at the factory? I've also been wondering about the rice crackers I buy.. they claim to be gluten-free but I don't know if I believe it, and...
  7. I guess that's my challenge.. I bring my own food everywhere else, just not there... And I too get sick from ridiculous issues of contamination..If I didn't feel so sick, I probably would never believe it myself if someone else told me.. So it's beyond education at this point I guess, that's what everyone seems to be telling me... And I guess i have to get...
  8. wow! Very well put! I think I'll print it and have him memorize it! LOL!! I love your conviction, and I wish I could just say that myself, because that's how I explain it to my own family and they listen... Thank you for the advice...
  9. BUt it's a 'no win' with them, because they take offense when I bring my own food after they've told me that they have stuff for me... I really want to educate them, and finding materials that support that I can get sick off a tiny amount from contamination may help them see the light...
  10. personally, i know within about 1 hour of eating, from the drastic bloating and pain that ensues. I get the 'chills' like I am experiencing a fever. My symptoms last about 3-5 days with varying onset. the migraine starts 24 hours after consumption and lasts 48 hours. the diarrhea onset varies between same day to the next, and the itchiness, swelling, fatigue...
  11. I have Celiac, but not sure if my children do yet. My advice to you is based on my experience eliminating something else out of their diets: food colouring. My children react to food dyes, their temperment drastically alters upon consumption. When we first started this new 'diet', honestly, it only took them about 5 days to get used to it. They argued at...
  12. Hello. I visit my inlaws every Sunday (family tradition).. and I get sick every Sunday. They are aware that I have Celiac Disease, and tell me when to bring my own food. Problem is, when they tell me that they have stuff for me, inevitably, I get sick... I am tired of a 5 day reaction because they aren't careful.. They'll make, for instance, stuffed zucchini...
  13. Self-diagnosed here.. Went gluten free at my own hunch, after doc told me, that as a mom of 2 young kids, I was supposed to feel that bad.. Went of gluten 1 1/2 years ago, and symptoms that I lived with forever went away.. Blood test negative because I'd already been off gluten.. Got Genetic testing done to prove it to others, because I knew it wasn't just...
  14. Thank you so much for your suggestion. I have never heard of this Enterolab.. I live in Canada, could that be why? I will google it and try and get more information... I would imagine that genetic testing would be quite expensive.... I appreciate your reply, and will do some research. Thanks...
  15. Hello. I started a gluten free diet one year ago, when I noticed that upon eliminating gluten for short periods, I just "felt" better. I was desperate for a solution to ongoing health problems despite living a very healthy lifestyle. I workout 5 days per week, eat a very healthy diet, etc.. Upon complete elimination of gluten, symptoms I'd lived with for...
