  1. I think the Boston area is good. There are a lot of health food stores, and even the regular grocery stores carry gluten-free stuff. Some restaurants have gluten free options if you call ahead. And there are a lot of support groups. We have lots of Irish people here, who are in the high risk group for celiac, so manybe that's why there's so many resources...
  2. I assumed my insomnia was perimenopause too, even though it started when I was pregnant with my first son 16 years ago! I did a sleep lab study and they said I had Restless Leg syndrome, but the drugs all made me sick and kept me awake. Come to find out it was gluten and/or lack of magnesium. After starting gluten-free my RLS got worse, but when I did sleep...
  3. I had that ribcage pain you are talking about only up in my chest area and it was very painful. I went to the doctor and he said it was interstital (sp?) muscle strain. Basically the muscles between my ribs had been strained. I was told to take ibuprofen and rest. For me it was from going up on my weights in the gym. It went away after two weeks, but unfortunately...
  4. I'm also %100 Irish American both sides. It is one of the high risk groups.
  5. Thanks Rice Guy, it was your suggestion for magnesium that got me to take it. I had it at home from a while ago but I never took it. I guess even if this is all a fluke, I'll enjoy the interlude while I have it!
  6. In my third gluten free week, I've now had 4 nights of sleeping through the night, and no Restless Legs either after dinner or at midnight. I haven't slept this well in about 16 years. I'm really happy but could this just be a blip? Its the diet or the magnesium supplement or both. I can't believe the improvement in my health this diet has brought, I'm not...
  7. I tested positive on a scratch test for wheat allergy about 10 years ago. At the time, since other reactions like to nightshades were gigantic welts, I paid attention to those and didn't eliminate wheat. I never noticed an actual allergic reaction to wheat. About 5 years after that I had a celiac blood panel which came out negative. After that I developed...
  8. Do you mean you order direct from the company?
  9. I've never tried Carmex, but I will now!
  10. I would like to get flours made by Authentic Foods, and Nu-World amaranth. No store near my carries them. Does anyone know the website with the best deals on price and shipping? Thanks!
  11. Does anyone know of any, or where I could find out which ones are safe? I use a lot because my lips are dry. Thanks!
  12. Thanks Rice Guy! I will look for this B-12 you recommend. The other supplements you mentioned I've just started, I think you recommended the magnesium for something else in another post, so I started taking it a few days ago. I may also be low once again in iron, although I hesitate to take that because of C. I see that there is a whole section on this...
  13. I'm so thrilled I just have to share -- I've had my first normal BM's in 3 years after 1 1/2 weeks on this diet!! I guess the bad news is that since all my GI symptoms cleared and I also feel so much better in subtle ways like energy levels, not depressed etc. that it means I am celiac or at least gluten-sensitive. But really I don't mind the diet. Also when...
  14. I also have trouble with nightshades - mostly peppers and eggplant which double me over in pain. I can eat white potatoes sparingly, and I still eat tomatoes but for how long who knows. Thanks for the "nomato" information. These food intolerances sure do force people to be creative!
  15. I am feeling better on this diet. (TMI alert - Had first normal BM in 3 years!) Eczema in ears is gone too, and no bloating. An unexpected benefit is that before, if I didn't work out on a particular day I would get a depressed mood. I haven't worked out in 2 weeks due to a very painful sprained chest muscle, and I have not been depressed! I am hoping that...
  16. Thanks for all these great suggestions! I will start a food journal today. It has been one week, I am trying to go strictly gluten free for 2 months, until the end of May and then re-assess. The only thing I'm not paying major attention to right now is cross-contamination. So far, my digestion feels better, and my allergies are a lot better. That's worth...
  17. Amaranth sounds great! Thanks to you both!
  18. Okay so after obsessively reading this forum for a week I've decided to post. I don't know if I have celiac or gluten intolerance but I've decided to try the diet to see if I feel better. I've been diagnosed with IBS C, and have tested negative on tTg tests in the past, MD didn't do the whole panel just the tTg. The C is not so much a frequency issue as small...
