I have been losing weight since just after Christmas 2008. I am 5'11" tall and was overweight at 256lbs (18st 2 lbs) I openly admit that I was too heavy for my height etc. However, 6 weeks later, I was 224lbs (16st). Now, 4 months later, I am seriously struggling to maintain my weight. This morning, I weighed 206.8 (14st 8lbs). I weighed myself...

ARCHIVED 47 And 3+ Weeks Ago It All Went Crazy
Storm replied to GB2000's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Sorry to hear you have been ill... I would be up front and ask your doctor if it could be celiacs disease! Been very open with them, my doctor asked if my bowel movements were regular, what colour the stools were etc Strange I know, but she said it was part of the diagnosis. I was completely open and upfront with all my symptoms and was finally correctly... -
ARCHIVED Uk Supermarkets
Storm posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
This is primarily for those residing in the UK... Waitrose offer over 2300 gluten free items on their online / home delivery site, but was really fed up when I found that they don't deliver to my postcode area yet. However, their "sister" site Ocado does deliver, but on their website, they only offer 300 items... I am slightly confused as the Ocado... -

ARCHIVED Route To Colorado - Places Gluten Free?
Storm replied to songstressc's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
The usual major chains are good: Outback, Carrabbas, Red Robin and PF Changs. My girlfriend lives just outside Denver so we have been doing some research and have found, in Denver: Masaala - a vegetarian indian restaurant, large gluten-free menu Californian Cafe - Park Meadows Mall, just off I-25 and County Line Road Also Rumbi Grill can be gluten... -
Thank you all.. Went and tried PF Changs gluten free menu today and was slightly disappointed with the options I chose, but there are plenty more there to try so I have not given up hope. The waiter was very knowledgeable about products etc and changed over the soy sauce for an alternative. He specified to the kitchen that they had a gluten...

ARCHIVED Review Of: Valencia Orange Cake From Starbucks
Storm replied to angel-jd1's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
There was one in its wrapper but the other 3 that were out were just open and on a plate. My girlfriend made sure I had the wrapped one first due to the risk of cross contamination and she had one of the pre-opened ones (but I couldn't help it and tried one of the pre-opened ones as well - like I said earlier, it was a lot drier than the wrapped one was)... -
ARCHIVED What All Were You Tested For Before Celiac Diagnosis?
Storm replied to latteda's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I was told by two doctors that I was depressed and that accounted for the weight loss and lack of appetite. I was even prescribed anti-depressants and offered a course of depression counselling!!! Not happy with the diagnosis, I demanded to see another doctor at the same practice who spent over 40 minutes with me going through my symptoms etc. She was... -
ARCHIVED Review Of: Valencia Orange Cake From Starbucks
Storm replied to angel-jd1's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
OK...... mixed reviews... On our arrival, there was one cake wrapped in plastic that has come straight from the production line as such. My girlfriend had one that was unwrapped and on display in the cabinet. The one in the wrapper tasted SO much fresher (I tasted both!!). It would appear that the ones on the plate have been there a bit longer as... -

We have just phoned our local Starbucks to make sure they stocked it before we set off.. and they DO!!!! So, coffee and cake is in order this morning, I can't wait.. I will report back later, but if all the comments on here are anything to go by, I am sure we will both LOVE it!!! -
I did contemplate the soy aspect as the Tamari Sauce has a soy content although it does state that it is organic, gluten free and wheat free. Soy milk (Silk) is staying down well though. Back to the drawing board I guess.

It was cooked on the George Foreman and that has only even been used to cook unseasoned meat on, plus was well washed in a dishwasher before hand. Everything gets washed in the dishwasher so that it is done at a hot temperature and all the worktops were bleached earlier today and no products containing gluten have touched the surfaces either. It is...

Thank you guys... The welcome has been great and it's so reassuring to know we are not alone! Been really ill tonight ( see this thread Click me ) Can't understand why though. Hoping the sickness will stop overnight..

We went out earlier today and chose tonight's food SO carefully... But for some reason, I was violently sick afterwards. We had steak marinaded in a tamari sauce (gluten free / wheat free, purchased from a very well known USA health food store) sauteed vegetables in olive oil and mashed Idaho potatoes. Can anyone see any issues with what I...

I have just extended my stay in the USA for another three days !! YAY for me!! I am back at the weekend and then have to empty my cupboards and start all over again My 10 yr old son will be with me this weekend, so a visit to the local supermarket will be in order. He is very good at ingredient spotting as he is a keen amateur chef, so is very...

ARCHIVED Celiacs From The UK?
Storm replied to Leper Messiah's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Hi guys... I live in Essex & work in London. Only diagnosed last week and severely struggling, as the day I was diagnosed, I flew to the USA for 16 days! I have not yet experienced a day in the UK as a sufferer as such. I have found a Wholefoods store close to where I work so I shall be paying a visit there when I return. -
Hi... Very new to the forum and was wondering if there is anyone from Essex, UK on here? Trying to establish if there are any restaurants in the Essex area that serve gluten-free or any good shops that stock gluten-free food... Look forward to hearing from you
-
Hi Nikki.... The meal in itself was nice, but even though I specified the fries to be unseasoned and the steak the same, it was not done. The manager came to the table after the meal and admitted that the fries had been fried in the same oil as the seasoned ones and the steak had been cooked on the same grill as the seasoned steak. He apologised profusely...

Thank you -
Thank you to all who have welcomed me. This is SO much harder than I first thought. We are going out to a restaurant tonight and I have had to look at the menu online in order to select my food before I get there... The restaurant does a gluten free menu, so luckily, I will have some variety. I am struggling with all this, feeling very down and sad...

I have recently been diagnosed with Celiac's and was wondering if there are any foods my 10yr old son cannot have? My kitchen cupboards have had to be emptied and re stocked due to my change in diet but I want to make sure that whatever I eat, he can as well. Any advice will be very very welcome on whether he can eat the same as me. Thank you

Thanks for the very warm welcome!! I am a serving police officer on shift work so finding a decent diet in London at 4am proved impossible!! I am struggling to be honest, the weight loss is still continuing although nowhere near as much. The sickness and tummy issues are still very much alive though .A few years ago, any food was fine with me...

Hi everyone... I live in the UK and last week, I was diagnosed with celiac disease. I am 34 years old and for the past two years have suffered stomach issues with keeping food down etc. Since December 2008, I have lost 4 stone (56 pounds) and 10 inches off of my waistline. I did not know why. Three Doctors later, I was finally told what was wrong...
