  1. I go by a very simple rule, If I can't identify what is in what I am eating.....I dont eat it. Don't trust what people tell you. WHEN IN DOUBT LEAVE IT OUT!!!
  2. Nope not at all, I can get glutened from licking an envelope or even a postage stamp
  3. Lots of ups and downs Stacey, Especially if you let the monster out of it's cave by inadvertantly eating gluten. It also depends on how sensitive you are as well. I am extremly sensitive so i have to be very careful. ALSO VERY IMPORTANT KEEP A FOOD DIARY. You will find it helps to track things especialy if something goes wrong. best of luck
  4. Well I really don't know how to answer you except to say that you really need to develop willpower. Do I miss beer, pizza, bagels,a good french baguette........etc?The answer is not only yes but HELL YAH! You must not be very sensitive to gluten so you can get away with slipping back and forth. If I did what you do it would put me in the hospital, because...
  5. In answer to your question JN we (my doctor)have tried Immodium, but it doesn't work worth a damn when the monster comes out of it's cave(diahorrea). I have tracked what we have done and the cipro and prednisone works. If your next question is am I sure about the celiac disease. Most definately, if you've ever read a pathology report for a celiac diagnosis...
  6. Good Lord, I know you had a craving for normal food lexi, but was it really worth it? I miss "normal" food but not enough to want to make myself sick. I have worked so hard to get healthy I can't imagine doing what you have done. Have you been to your family doctor? When I have a problem and accidently gluten myself he prescribes prednisone and cipro Best...

  9. Hey Mr machinist, I hope you are doing better these days. I was diagnosed this past april after being sick for over a year. It took 2 family doctors and my GI in Calgary who finally made the disgnosis. By the time I was diagnosed I looked like a skeleton 6'5" and maybe 134lbs. I am very lucky that I have a very understanding employer who has allowed me...
  10. Cold Turkey, I was so sick that before I had my biopsy I was told don't worry about eating a gluten-free diet. So I was eating gluten-free without a problem. Best of luck

  12. Hey, just got back onto the board and read your post. It all depends on how serious your diagnosis came back. My diagnosis is quite severe, it has taken 4 months for me to put on 14 pounds and I still have a long way to go.(I am 6'5" and at the time of my diagnosisI weighed approx 134lbs) I don't have joint pain but I do get headaches and sometimes feel...
  13. Hi Debbie, I am a brand new celiac(hahaha, april 2009) and have come to terms with the disease quite quickly. I realize that if I want to get healthy and stay healthy the only way to do it is to stick to the diet. I keep telling myself"no dammit I don't want to be sick anymore. Best wishes
  14. Hi Gerri, you found another Canadian as well. I am in Northeast B.C. in a very remote community(ft nelson) but am learning to cope with whats going on with me. I was finally diagnosed in April this yr2009 and have been working on going gluten-free ever since. I have gone through my own personal hell like you did. The worst part of it was the family doctor...
  15. Hi Skinny chic, I am going through the same thing as you are at the moment. I was just diagnosed and am having a hell of a time with the transition. Eating the foods isn't the problem, there was just so much damage before I was diagnosed that my body is repairing itself. As for being skinny, I know how you feel, I look like a walking scarecrow and hate whats...
