  1. Hi Jean, Thank you for your ongoing concern. My gluten challenge did get my bowels moving very nicely. Prior to going gluten free I had daily diarrhea. In April of this year that changed to constipation. Unfortunately I had pretty severe nausea on the second day of my gluten challenge. By the third day I really didn't feel like eating anymore of it...
  2. I agree with your assessment 100% "if you have a compromised gut going into surgery it might just make things worse". I posted just before you and as you can see my digestive issues really went through the roof after having the gall bladder surgery. Interesting that you previously also had IBS - D. I had no formal diagnosis prior to the gall bladder surgery...
  3. Do you think that the symptoms that you continue to suffer from are from the Celiac disease or are they more related to Ulcerative Colitis? I'm sure that I read on another of your posts that you also have this unfortunate condition as well as Celiac disease. Would you mind sharing the kind of symptoms you are still having? I also read on your other post...
  4. Regarding your question about the gluten sensitivity gene this is a diagnosis which is made by Enterolab. They consider certain genes to indicate gluten sensitivity. Dr. Fine's work (Enterolab) has not yet been peer reviewed. It seems that most doctors still question the legitimacy of the gluten sensitivity gene theory. The actual gene testing is done...
  5. Yes, I have been tested for Crohns and colitis (colonoscopy and CT scan). I don't think I can eat anymore gluten. Pain was really ramped up yesterday and the urge to vomit was very strong (and this is not a regular symptom). Today I have no desire whatsoever to eat gluten. Feel like 'tossing my cookies' just thinking about it. Regarding the Specific...
  6. Would like to thank all of you for your replies. I'm not sure how long I'll be able to continue this gluten challenge. Like I mentioned before I have a tremendous amount of lower bowel / abdominal / rectal pain everyday so it is kind of hard to tell what is happening anymore. A few years ago I would know within 20 minutes or so if I had eaten something...
  7. I have been following a gluten free diet for almost 2 years now. In that time I have eaten at the maximum 6 pieces of toast and 1 serving of spaghetti. In the last 6 months we have been very cautious of cross contamination as well. I have been dairy, egg, and soy free for 4 years. Also follow a somewhat mold restricted diet due to allergy testing....

    ARCHIVED Dr. Kenneth Fine (enterolab)

Thank you so much for providing this. In my mind the rectal mucosal challenge studies seem to lend support to Dr. Fine's stool testing for gluten antibodies. Or am I pipe-dreaming? Forgot to mention that I also received the invitation posted at the beginning of this thread. If anyone would like to comment on the Enterolab results I recently received...

    ARCHIVED Dr. Kenneth Fine (enterolab)

Would you be able to provide a little more information about the 'mucosal challenge' that you refer to. Where is this being done? How does it work? Is there information regarding this kind of testing available? I recently had testing done by Enterolab. I would very much appreciate your thoughts on them. Thank you so much, Emma Before the testing...
  10. Hi All, Thank you for your replies. Ranger you asked if I am following a gluten-free diet. Yes, I have been on the diet for about a year now but have eaten about 6 slices of toast during that time period because I wasn't sure of what was going on. I had a small bowel biopsy that was negative for celiac (but I had already been gluten free for a few months...
  11. I have an auto-immune skin disease called Vitiligo. This is the same skin disease that Michael Jackson suffered from. You gradually lose the pigment in your skin and have to avoid very much sun exposure. I have read that Michael also had the auto-immune disease Lupus. Just wondering if anyone knows if this skin disease is associated with or found in...
  12. Hi CC, I forgot to mention that as far as I know I don't think that most Cheerios are gluten free. Joyce
  13. Hi, Count me in! I had very mild IBS prior to gall bladder surgery (Dec.07). For a year and a half I had constant, debilitating diarrhea and increased food intolerances/allergies and constant abdominal/rectal/back pain. I don't believe I really needed my gall bladder out either (I had polyps that had supposedly grown). It turns out they had not grown...
  14. Hi Beverly, I have never taken an anti-depressant but took a benzodiazepine (lorazepam) for sleep following gall bladder surgery. Big mistake! I took this drug because I am allergic to most painkillers (morphine, codeine, NSAID's, etc). After 3 weeks of using low doses I had terrible withdrawal when I tried to stop taking it. I understand what you...
  15. Count me in! I ate 1/3 of a cup of garden fresh red beets and had severe abdominal bloating all night and then terrible, painful stomach cramps and burning and lots of diarrhea this morning. Gut still hurts this evening, feels like I must have swallowed a cup of crushed glass. Joyce
  16. Hi Mac, I'm pretty new here also and do not yet (or likely ever will have) a confirmed diagnosis of celiac disease. I was on a gluten -free diet prior to having the small biopsy and blood tests. They were both negative. I cannot eat anything with gluten as it seems to make my ever present digestive problems / bowel pain & pressure even worse....
  17. Hi Dreamwalker, I just read your post and can really empathize with what you are going through. I had my gall bladder removed in December '07 and have had terrible abdominal pain ever since. After many trips to the ER I also have gotten nowhere. It is extremely frustrating! All they ever seem to want to do is refer me back to the surgeon who took...
  18. We had a cat that developed severe diabetes. His blood sugar readings were skyhigh. We decided to try removing all grains/carbs from his diet after giving it is some thought. Obviously cats don't eat grains in their natural state. And voila within a week or so his blood sugar levels went back to normal. No more insulin shot and pokes in the ear to read...
  19. Hi Again, When I say lower bowel pain, I'm referring to the colon and large bowel rather than stomach and small intestine. And yes, apparently for most people gall bladder surgery is a breeze but for about 2 or 3 of the patients develop long term diarrhea/bloating and other digestive problems. The pain that you are describing sounds like it is either...
  20. Hi again, Going back to the gall bladder surgery and the problems it can cause in some people. One specialist that I saw actually says that the digestive problems that I am having (including the very sore lower bowel) are likely caused by the gall bladder surgery. He said it can take a very long time for the digestive system to readjust after this surgery...
  21. Hi, Just wanted to let you know that I also have developed almost all of my digestive problems since having gall bladder surgery (Dec. 07). Prior to that I had a problem with dairy (diarrhea & some bloating) and an allergy to eggs. Since the surgery everything has gone crazy. I don't seem to be able to eat gluten now and many, many other foods...
  22. Hi Mommida, Thank you for sharing this with me. As I mentioned I was starting to think that I was the only one with nighttime abdominal pain that makes sleep impossible. Does this only happen to you if you have been glutened or does it happen at other times also. Thanks again, Joyce
  23. Hi Lisa, Boy, am I ever glad to have received your response. I'm not glad that you also suffer this kind of pain, but I was starting to wonder if I was the only one that was often severely bothered at nighttime with the bloating and abdominal pain. I also feel it in my hip area and in my lower back. You mentioned sometimes starting to get some relief...
